EDIT: First post from my new freshly assembled computer :D
All I'm waiting for now is the VGA to DVI converter to see if that works when I plug in my graphics card. Thanks for all the help guys!

Do you have any opinions on getting a Xeon as a cheaper alternative to the I7 when you don't want to overclock? If you're going to get a dedicated gpu for gaming, the integrated graphics would be a bit wasted wouldn't it... It seems like esports games aren't likely to be reprogrammed so they will utilize DX12's integrated + dedicated usage. I would feel more comfortable with some kind of way to check that nothing is melting down without me noticing... There are tons Speccy cpu-z speedfan etc. Just getting like 1 or 2 of them is fine. Also, you can monitor temps and even adjust fan speed using the software that goes along with your motherboard (if you choose to install it)

It should have drivers and software on it. Well mine did so I assume other brands have something like that as well. Also, you can probably just find it by going on gigabyte's website and searching for your exact model.

I didn't know I needed an adapter to store my SSD properly You want one, don't need one ![]() some cases have places to put a 2.5" drive, others you can tie/velcro it somewhere or even just leave it hanging if you're not moving the system. Usually a 3.5" to 2.5" bay adapter is not really needed, though some people use them What's the bottleneck for this build, where do I need to spend less, and where do I need to spend more ? Depends on the game, graphics settings, resolution and FPS targets, as well as what you're doing in the game etc. "Bottleneck" changes alll of the time and it's not something that you can just assess from a specs list. CPU tends to be important for maintaining FPS that you want, while GPU lets you turn up resolution and most graphics settings. Most CPU bound games don't scale well (or even at all) onto >4 cores though, so nothing available really faster than a 4690k (until next gen in 3 weeks) you're probably better off with a 970 (to save money) or a 980ti (to have a card near flagship performance). The 980 has had some price drops but it's still probably at a bit of an awkward price point? It's probably in practice a bit under 20% faster than a 970 at the same clock speed, with 14.1% more VRAM usable. roughly, 970 >> 980 >>>> 980ti. Ununtuitive but aparantly nobody wants easily understood hardware names you should probably get faster RAM since some games including sc2 benefit from it ~ 2133c9 or 2400c10 for example

I've had my SSDs mounted on the back of motherboard tray for a few years now and have moved twice since then with no issues, still holding on strong.

What is your current build? My current build: CPU: i5-4690k GPU: MSI R9 280x HSF: CM 212 Evo Memory: Vulcan 2x8 1600 Motherboard: ASRock Z97 "Fatal1ty Killer" SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 240gb HD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB Case: Rosewill Thor V2 PSU: Corsair RM 650 What is your monitor's native resolution? Three monitors. The main one is Dell U2312M (1920x1200@60hz) -- games happen here. Secondary monitor is Dell 2407WFPb (1680x1050@60hz) -- typically vertical rather than horizontal Third monitor is an ancient Viewsonic that supports DVI (1280x1024) Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? I want to upgrade the computer's graphics card sometime in the next year. The R9 280x is great, but I bought it used from a friend, and it's started to develop some problems. I plan to move it to another computer and get something better for this. I'd like to have enough muscle to do stuff like run Witcher III on high or ultra settings, play a game stretched across three monitors, or play games at 144hz in the future when I upgrade monitors, so I'm willing to move beyond normal ranges of price-performance. What is your budget? ~$600. I'll spend more on a GPU if I need to, but I was hoping to keep this in that range. Power budget might be more important, since I've only got a 650W PSU, crossfiring two power-hungry ATI GPUs might not be possible. What country will you be buying your parts in? USA If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. Not really. If it doesn't make a big difference, I'd rather not have to uninstall and reinstall gfx drivers, but I'm fine switching to nvidia. So the big thing is, I'm fine. I don't need to do this now. I'll wait a year or whatever if needed, if there are new cards coming out for example. Should I be waiting around for a new generation from the manufacturers? Would that be a good strategy? Or will it be a while and should I just take what I can get now? Simply adding another R9 280X wouldn't do since this one is having problems. 2x R9 290 would probably draw too much power (it says they need 375W each >.>) so I'm not really sure what the strategy is here. Any thoughts?

Come back next year then ![]() GPU market changes a lot 2x 290 or Fury / FuryX is doable on a 650w PSU if it's good and has four pci-e power connectors, but can't OC them and it's not particularly wise. Near stock you'd see power figures like 240-280w per card under load.
