I followed the template in the OP since it seems like it'll give me the best response What is your budget? Ideally under $1000, I would like to save where possible
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080 (but can change since I'm looking for a new monitor)
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Dota 2, CS:GO, SC2, nothing too terribly graphics-intensive, but I'd like to get at least high to ultra since I've never had a computer be able to run graphics that well before
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? This will be used by my whole family so everyday stuff like Internet browsing, school assignments, etc.
Do you intend to overclock? No
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No
Do you need an operating system? I believe Windows 10 will be free, so no
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? I am looking for a new monitor, and it is included in my test build
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. I don't prefer any brands, I just want something that works
What country will you be buying your parts in? United States
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. I'll use whomever's the cheapest
Here's a build I made a little while ago, if you have any recommendations for cheaper alternatives, I'd like to know. The build

windows 10 is only free if you currently have windows installed, as an upgrade. Otherwise you are stuck on preview builds

Despite all the fuss and impracticality of Broadwells in the grander scheme of things right before Skylake, I think I'm actually going to build my setup around a Broadwell, mainly because of Iris Pro 6200 :0
please keep in mind that im buying locally and prices are high because yurop & estonia A) broadwell i5 + pricier MB (because broadwell apparently requires H or Z97) + no dedicated gfx i5 5675C - 299€ + H97I AC mb (MSI/mITX) - 116€ = 415€ B) haswell i5 + cheaper MB + dedicated cheap gfx i5 4690 - 240€ (4670 is 230€) + B85M mb (ASROCK/mITX) - 77€ = 317€ Difference - 98€ GFX available for ~100€ : 2GB R7 250x (105€), 2gb GT740 (104€) (cheapest 2GB models)
Since buying a cheapass GFX card doesn't seem very reasonable and that the Iris 6200 would more than suffice for my needs (Photoshop/InDesign/Sibelius/FL Studio +gaming in low detail is completely fine), I think this seems like a reasonable choice for Broadwell right now
I'm definitely not going to wait for Skylake because I'm intending to build this in 1-2months max, low budget constraints limit choices heavily in the face of release product lineups and price premiums
With that aside, time for preliminary shopping list specs!
MB - MSI H97I AC - 116€ (broadwell compatibility + decent sound chip + AC wireless) Case - Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX - 44.90€ (Solid enough small case, portability important) RAM - Crucial Ballistix Tactical UDIMM DDR3L-1600 CL8, 1.35V 1x8GB - 68.50€ (ddr3l usable by broadwell, CL8 5-8€ more expensive than CL10-11, seems worth it) HDD - SEAGATE ST1000DM003 3.5'' 1TB, 7200 - 58.00€ (Main Storage Drive for image and sample libraries. Chose a pretty random cheap drive thats 7200, only semi-random thing in the list. Will probably take SSD out of the laptop again that is my current workstation, for this ) CPU - I5 BX/5675C 3100/4M S1150 - 296€ Total - 583.40€
Now all I need is a 130€ monitor thats 23-24", IPS, and 1080/1200p Tips, comments? Sorry for a mess of a post, this was written over like 2 hours
edit - prices are from here, for example https://www.datagate.ee/

You mean the skylake releasing in 3 weeks that Intel never adjusts price on because of product age? ;p

From what I'm reading, the motherboards will be more of an issue, with only Z170 being available at launch for the big money early adopters. Extra cost on ITX versions + DDR4 being more expensive does not sound very appealing, driving the costs up and specs down, my budget of ~600€+monitor is already making compromises :D
I'd much rather go for a decent broadwell on 1150 and buy dedicated gfx with the possibility of a later i7 broadwell upgrade should I not want to build a proper 1151 based setup 2 years down the line
Of course, I'm always willing to reconsider once the B150 and H170 mb's launch and get here, if similar specs on a similarily priced (but not as top of the line) i5 can be achieved in the same budget 8) Nothing set in stone

I was rudely awoken out of my state of meditation by loud knocking sounds and unintelligible chatter. Wearily I made my way through the pitch black darkness to investigate the source of this sound. It seemed to be coming from the door but now it was eerily quiet... I moved closer.. step.. step.. BAM BAM on the door and a voice shouting in a weird, alien language YOURENMA? I ripped the door open and was immediately blinded by the light that washed in through the door...
The delivery guy's surprise quickly turned into a professional look with a hint of desperation at the sight of this guy who opened the door in his underwear with a completely bewildered look on his face. He sighed and pointed to the boxes on the floor.
My computer parts are here.

If you're gonna spend quite a bit, i think it would be better to get an intel cpu. but this is fine if you need to go as cheap as possible

Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying a new computer and I found this build a couple of days ago. Basically it's a website where they build the computer for you, you select parts and they build and ship it to you.
This is an example build they propose:
http://www.monpcsurmesure.fr/achat-ordinateur/1578/monpcsurmesure-fr-pc-gamer-titan-ii.html
I'm a casual gamer, I'd like to be able to play any game in high graphism, and I don't want to change my build every year. Is this build good for the price ?
|
It's WAY overpriced. If you just want to play games (no video editing), an i5 is enough. Grab a 980Ti for good value for your money, and your computer will already be a better gaming desktop than the one you showed us and you won't have to change anything for years. If you're willing to do some research, buy good value components and build it yourself, you could have somehting better than their build while also saving at least a couple hundred euros.

These parts JUST went on sale for today only and I'm trying to figure out if I should get them or wait until Black Friday like I was going to earlier. They just went from 670 to 625, but I've never used these sites myself so I have 0 experience with them, which means they are new to me and I don't know if I should buy so many from Superbiiz who I've never done business with before. D:
Same part list as previous two unanswered posts. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HJQJQ7
edit: NVM pcpartpicker declined to show me superbiiz's shipping costs apparently. Sigh....

Is there a reason you preferred amd both in cpu and gpu?

It's not great ~ If you don't know rough performance just use www.anandtech.com/bench and click on one of the GPU options (like GPU 2015). Select two GPU's and hit "view comparison" and you get a list of benchmarks

There is something I want to make sure of, if I buy a motherboard with 4 240-pin slots for memory, do I need to have them all in use? I want 16GB of RAM and need to know if 4*4GB is what I have to use, or if I can use 2*8GB and have the option of adding more later on.

When you say overpriced, do you mean that I don't need to pay that much to have a good gaming PC or that they are selling it for too expensive ?
I looked at every component of the PC and took the average price at stores like materiel.net or priceminister and the total seems about the same thing. +100€ because they assemble it themselves and 40€ shipping but that's reasonable.
I agree that the i7 is a bit too much but then again, if I want to upgrade in a couple of years, I'll be able to keep the proc... Just change the graphics card and DDR3. 980 Ti does seem tempting, but since I also need to buy a monitor I fear that i'll be over my budget...

No you don't have to have all of them in use, 2 is completely fine if you want to go up from there! As for capacity, check your motherboard specs, some motherboards can only use up to 16GB and won't make use of any more!

Excellent information, the new motherboard I'm looking at only sports up to 16 GB anyways. One more (and hopefully last) question, if I get an ATX power supply, does that work with a microATX motherboard, or do I need a full ATX motherboard?

Estonia4644 Posts
the PSU will work just fine, mATX is just a smaller form factor motherboard designed to fit smaller cases The ATX designation on PSUs is more for showing what kind of cases they fit, as some ITX cases and smaller form factor cases won't be able to fit a standard ATX-intended PSU
