Dell 545s intel core 2 duo E7400 2.8ghz What is your monitor's native resolution? 1366x768 Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? I want to lower my cpu usage when running programs like xsplit my current cpu usage with current pc is %50-80% when using 1280x720 resolution but with 1920x1080 it increases to 80%-100% What is your budget? $600 What country will you be buying your parts in? United States If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. my computer shop suggested an amd fx6200 or which processor i choose and others have suggested intel i5-3470 and amd fx 8350 i have 50mbps 5mbps i can stream in 1280x720 720p but when i choose 1920x1080 1080p a message comes up from xsplit saying my computer can't handle it i also have been told by xsplit that i would need a processor with a passmark of 10,000 or more to stream in 1080p If the game you plan on streaming takes more than two cores than you'd want the FX8350 or an i7 4770k otherwise the 4670k will be a good choice. Non-K if you don't plan on overclocking but overclocking is suggested.

I suggest you may want to read this: http://blog.destiny.gg/1200-streaminggaming-machine/ More generally, Destiny's blogs on computer building were very informative to me and helped me get obtain a reference from which I could make my own build. Destiny is also a guy who lives off of streaming so I would wager that he knows what he's talking about. Also interesting is the article he posted criticizing big name brands. http://blog.destiny.gg/category/destiny-the-box-builder/ Also very helpful was TL's OP. Edit: take my remark with an ocean of salt since i've not even built my first computer yet. However I spent almost all of yesterday afternoon & evening doing research on the subject. I kind of like your build however I think that maybe you could get a beefier graphics card. At first I was going to go with the HD7950, but then after doing some research on HD7590 against GTX 660 Ti, I found that the GTX600 Ti seemed to edge out the HD7950. So then I went with that. But at a very comparable price, the GTX 760 seems to offer more bang, so I ended up choosing that. http://techreport.com/review/23981/radeon-hd-7950-vs-geforce-gtx-660-ti-revisited

Wouldn't the motherboard bottleneck the card's performance though? Or is that just not the case? A single GPU cannot saturate PCI-E 2.0 x16.

It's just an evolutionary standard. Not really a marketing ploy since all current Intel boards except H81 has it.

Currently it'll be the only thing I'm going to buy, but I'd like some of the really smart tech people of TL to give me some advice on what to replace it with, since I haven't really been following the GPU market. To give you an idea, the newly toasted GPU I had was an AMD 6970. Something of newer generation that can at least put up a comparable performance would be preferred. I'm impartial to the Nvidia/AMD difference and I'll let the performance/price ratio and availability decide.

Radeon HD7950 for about $230 or a Radeon HD7970 for about $320 would be both be good options.
