If you fill both channels with similar amount of memory, it will always read and write to two memory sticks at once, doubling the speed for that. When you build your PC, the motherboard's manual will have a recommendation about which slots to put your memory sticks in. That's about that dual channel stuff.

2x4GB A-A 2x2GB B-B How would this configuration be running with them set to xmp 1.0 at 1600mhz.

If it works like that, you'd want to arrange the sticks so that the slower memory gets looked at first. If I understood it right, dual channel should work from start to finish of all 12GB if both channels are filled with 6GB RAM instead of 4GB in one and 8GB in the other. Your board probably shows what timings it got out of the profiles. I can see that if I look at the screen with the manual timing settings. It shows what it wants to use as a grayed out number next to the input fields (all set to "Auto"). Those darkened numbers change immediately (without restart) when I change the profile or MHz.

Think of it like Raid 0 If you have: 2gb+4gb 2gb+4gb You write/read like this: 2gb+2gb 2gb+2gb and then run out of data on the left side, so you can only write: 0gb+2gb 0gb+2gb and get bandwidth cut in half Or wait, maybe i'm completely wrong because you can only write to one module per channel at a time

I read that only some motherboards support dual channel with asymmetric channel sizes. Maybe they meant in the one channel, but it didn't seem like it to me.

(ASRock Z87 Extreme3) support the i7 4930k or no? I know it supports the i7 4770k, but honestly I can get that other one for only 60$ more just if it doesn't support motherboard obviously not going to get it. And I want to say it probably doesn't, but just want to verify :D

My motherboard has arrived. Time to double check notes, ensure I have the right websites open, and commence to get this thing built. On the software front, any opinions on the BlackViper services list? Useful, not worth it, etc?
