Don't remember NCIX having any good RAM deals. All the $60 RAM deals are on Newegg.
If you're willing to do the mail in rebate than a Corsair CX is okay but not factoring in rebates, it's not a good choice.
If OP is correct, 500W would be enough. What other brand would you recommend Skyr?

I want to buy a new computer in a few months, for now I want to know how much would it be for just upgrading the processor. This is my computerAnd I have a radeon hd 5670 From what I could find with Google, it seems there's no way for you to upgrade just your CPU. The CPU you currently have is at the top end of what fits in the socket it uses. There was one other CPU for that socket that adds 200MHz (your current CPU runs at 2400MHz). You would not notice any change, would completely waste your time and money.
This means you need to replace everything. Any new CPU you look at, it will also need a new motherboard and new RAM.
You'll probably also want a new case and new PSU and perhaps a new HDD or SSD. You can salvage the optical disc drive and probably stay with the HD5670 if it's just for SC2.

Whats the point of getting this instead of a 780 Ti?

Was looking at the budget gamer sample build to get for my brother but some of the parts are sold out, can someone help me put together something similiar at a similar price range?
b]What is your budget?[/b]
500-550$
What is your monitor's native resolution?
Either 1920 by 1200 | 1366 to 768
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
He wants to play a lot of stuff like skyrim, MMOs, etc. Decent settings, not looking to spend a fortune here.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Nothing intensive, probably internet browsing, schoolwork, and porn.
Do you intend to overclock?
Please no overclocking.
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No.
Do you need an operating system?
Yes.
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
Not as part of the budget, he is just going to get basic usb mouse/keyboard for now.
I do need some kind of disc drive/reader.
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
None at all, whatever works well at the price. What country will you be buying your parts in?
USA
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
I've had good experiences with newegg, but anything will do.
Any help at all would be really appreciated.

What's the point of getting it instead of a 780? You don't even need to go up to Ti
780 is cheaper, better in every way.
I didn't watch the vid yet (no sound atm) but if benches show the mars winning, it'll be down to nothing more than factory overclocks

Does this mean you have 2 monitors?

Hi fellow TLers,
Since black friday just happend I went ahead and build myself a new computer since my 6year old AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz and 8800GT cant keep up anymore Rest in peace you have given me lots of joy.. So now that thats over with here is my question (Spec. below) I want to run Crossfire but am not sure if its possible to use different brands from different retailers since the Sapphire I purchased is currently out of stock. I already bought x1 Sapphire 7870(Core clock - 1050MHz | Memory Cloc 1200MHz (4.8Gbps) |Stream Processors - 1280 Stream Processors) since it came in a bundle and am looking to buy either the XFX 7870Core clock - 1000MHz | Memory Cloc 1200MHz (4.8Gbps) |Stream Processors - 1280 Stream Processors HIS IceQ 7870 Core clock - 1000MHz | Memory Cloc 1200MHz (4.8Gbps) |Stream Processors - 1280 Stream Processors ASUS 7870Core clock - 1000MHz | Memory Cloc 1200MHz (4.8Gbps) |Stream Processors - 1280 Stream Processors
so in conclusion is it possible to use to different brands? If so are these cards worth getting or should I just wait till the Sapphire 7870 comes back on sell.
Thanks in advance!
MY RIG, Case | Corsair Carbide Series 400R Mobo | ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 CPU | AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz Cooling | Cirsair H100 Ram | G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (1866) PSU | Rosewill 1000W 80Plus Bronze Certified VGA | Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Monitor | Acer 24" 5ms LED

He has multiple options for monitors, just planning on using one.

2 Gb of VRAM just defeats the card from the get-go.
I was wondering if Bluebird could use a i3-4130 or something for the build he mentioned. With that budget it seems like an i5 is a bit too expensive (I mean, he can get it but then his GPU budget will suffer). i3s are basically dual cores with hyperthreading but since hyperthreading doesn't help with games, why not just get a Pentium and a beefy GPU to go with that? Or is a strong i3 a still a solid choice for a $550 gaming rig, since it's pretty much just a very strong dual core?
I'd say as a very rough rule, if you're building a gaming PC your GPU should cost more than your CPU for a given budget.
I'm not really taking AMD CPUs into account (which might be a mistake, bluebird should definitely look into them) since I don't really care for them, I'm more interested in Intel's CPUs.

What would be the best GPU I can get in the 200-250 range (maybe 300 max)
Is the R270 the best?

Yea, that vid - it simply won't beat 780ti ever with an enthusiast OC, and it's very questionable that it would hold up to aftermarket 780's/290's - if it was £350-400 it would be compelling (we got stuff like windforce 780 for ~£360 on deals or under £400 quite regularly which is arguably better and i'd prefer one anyway for sli expandability as quad-sli with 2gb vram is silly) but they overshot the price of the cheaper aftermarket 780's in this market by like 1/3'rd, which means they have no place at all

HT does help, it's more of an issue of most games not scaling well to 6-8 threads, but on stuff that will utilize 3-4 threads well, it helps i3. It's quite a few titles at this point, given amd's been heavily dependant on 4-8 thread for some years now and everyone above low end is quad core

Have a look: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/video-card/#sort=a7
HD 7950 and GTX 760 are roughly equivalent at the $250 price range and they're both good cards. They would be the best at $250.
At $300 you start getting 280X cards which are better than either of those.
Edit: oh ok Cyro, so yeah it would be a good idea to recommend an i3-4xxx for that guys build. It fits that price point rather nicely.

Thanks for the info!
That said, I'm trying to explain the game bundle to my friend... (AKA, with certain GPU, he is getting free games. So even if the card is worse or more expensive, it might become interesting) it's complicating our build hahaha! Of all games that come with NVIDIA, he said he is not planning to play them (Assassin creed 4, batman, Tom Clancy)
Games from AMD never settle forever, he will take Thief and maybe sleeping dog. So I believe I will have to go with an AMD card to get that bundle.

A lot of the bundled games are very cheap ; i was looking at how much you could flip them for and basically everything was worth like a tiny fraction of the retail cost, so keep that in mind

Yea, I just noticed
How safe is it to buy them online though (say from Ebay)?

As safe as it is to buy stuff from ebay i guess
some nonreference 780ti's hitting shops and review sites over the next few days
http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/gpu_displays/palit_jetstream_gtx780_ti_first_look/1
Wait, that was published over a week ago. Oops. A friend was talking about it earlier, said one of the models released on 6'th and overclockers.co.uk has windforce 780ti right now so i took a very quick look
