They also recommend a more powerful PSU though?

Pretty silly reccomending a 500/550w PSU considering typical load power for a 680/770 @1300mhz is like 180 watts and i'd estimate my peak power draw (pushing oc hard on 4770k +770) to be in the range of like 350 watts

A R9 280x or GTX 770 with typical i5 is not likely to break 300w during gaming. A Seasonic G 450 is plenty for this sort of configuration. 38a on 12v rail is also a 450w unit, not a 550w unit so their recommended PSU spec is questionable..

280x actually requires raising voltage and notably changing temps vs stock, but i'd imagine 1k is a low clock. OCUK deal of the day has a lightning @1150mhz stock (7970, but same thing) competitively priced with 280x/770 lineup

Simple conclusion from Guru3d Haswell-E is going to be a blast. From what we’ve seen, Intel is putting in a lot of efforts to the last 22nm platform. In short, if you’ve been waiting to replace your current system with Intel’s highest end offerings, Haswell-E is the platform to wait for (and grab, the moment it’s out). On November 20 2013 00:00 iTzSnypah wrote: DDR4 is going to be crazy expensive and everyone is going to stay with DDR3 until prices become reasonable (just like when DDR3 came out, it wasn't fully adopted for over 2 years). My motherboard was MSI's flagship when DDR3 came out and it was their only motherboard to support DDR3 during that time. How many pins is DDR4 though? Still 240? ![]() + Show Spoiler [More Info] + Here’s some more information related to RAM support, Wellsburg will only allow you to install DDR4 type RAM on the motherboard, with speed configurations being in steps of 1333 MHz, 1600 MHz, 1866 MHz and 2133 MHz. Something tells us that 2133 MHz will be the minimum speed of DDR4 kits that go on sale next year (enthusiasts won’t be going for any less anyway). Quad-channel DDR4 RAM along with increased frequencies could lead to a near 50% increase in bandwidth compared to the older, triple-channel configuration which housed much more conservative RAM clock speeds. The chipset will support low voltage (1.2V) DDR4 RAM kits (must be the 1333 MHz ones). The DIMM connector now has 288 pins (as opposed to 284 from earlier), the 4 additional pins added to support NVDIMM modules. Good news is that both 284/288 pin RAM modules will be usable on motherboards with the 284 pin connector or the new 288 pin connector.

Haswell-E is going to be a blast. Just like Haswell was going to be >.> It's pretty hard to screw up an 8-core consumer CPU with ddr4 support though

Although the GPU factors in for 3DMAX, Revit for some reason is pure CPU power for everything from rendering and graphics. edit: And there hasn't been any decent hardware combos on newegg or am I failing to spot them? Especially mobo combos for non-k boards.

edit: So besides some extensions that I will never utilze and lower TDP, the Ivy Bridge 1240 is essentially the same as the Haswell 1240? Seems like the Xeons for me are a better deal overall compared to 4xxx series.
