Can't launch Starcraft 2 - Launcher error

Hey everyone,

A few days after the 1.5.3 patch installed, I went to launch the game, and the launcher pops up, thinks for a few seconds, then produces an error that says:

"Failed to read a required file. Please close all other applications, temporarily deactivate your antivirus software, and try again."

Hitting the Okay button, which is the only option, closes the launcher.

The only security software I have running is Microsoft Security Essentials, and shutting that down doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Setup:

Windows 7 64-bit
Mobile i7 Q720 at 1.6GHz
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD5870

Open your starcraft 2 folder in program files, and there should be a folder called mods. Inside this mods folder you'll find a file called challenges, just delete that file and the launcher should work again.

it does, but thanks for finding which file it was... ive been having people delete the whole folder and re-download the whole folder rofl...

Greetings all,

Another way to solve this is by running your application with administrator privileges. I wrote this because it also re-occurs in patch 1.5.4

Hope this helps some folk

I have also a error after starting the launcher. When i hit play, a box with error reporting say's:

The instruction at "0x77196B0D" referenced memory at "0x00000004".
The memory could not be read.

It happened really sudden, i reïnstalled starcraft from downloaded setup, but it did not solve the problem. I have runned virusscanners, but nothing serious has been found.
Please help!
