turn vsync off, press ctrl+alt+f and see the difference, you should see a difference.

I have the Asus VH236(?), not sure about the model but it's commonly referred to as the "EVO" monitor. I'm trying to use it as a computer monitor but when I plug it in with an HDMI, the resolution is small and the screen is blurry. I don't know how to explain the blurriness. It's more like as if it's being used as a projector, I dont know.

Anyone know how to fix this? I went through all the menu options but can't seem to find the fix.
Without a paddle up shit creek.

You have the latest graphics card drivers? It's set to 1920x1080? Is this a recent purchase, so it's never been displaying correctly for you? If for some reason nothing works and you don't need the audio, you can probably just use DVI, but there's not reason the HDMI shouldn't be working.

On a side note, indeed it looked like VH236 was being used at EVO again the past weekend...at least on the main stage as seen on stream.

Then there's absolutely no point in having a 120hz monitor if your computer can't go up to 120 fps.... o.o

Maybe i'm misunderstanding but you're not making yourself very clear.

I thought HDMI bandwidth couldn't handle 120hz and it had to be displayport or double-dvi? Am I wrong on that?

You're right. I missed the post earlier about using HDMI.

edit: reading is a good thing

120hz monitors can only run at 1920x1080 with dual-link DVI or DisplayPort. No ifs or buts.

There only seems to be a few options for a TN 120hz monitor on your list, are there any that are cheaper than the BenQ XL2420T that are good?

The Samsungs or Asus monitor I listed should be cheaper.

Got a ViewSonic VX2210mh-LED today. I'm going to sound pretty biased, since this is my first widescreen monitor. There's some backlight bleeding + Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
(ipod camera, meant to look black, haha). Good thing it's only bottom bit of bleeding, taskbar at bottom of screen.

Here are the modes reforce says it can do + Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
.

On the inversion (pixel walk) test there's only a tiny bit of flicker on 7b. I dunno what else to say about it, other than i'm still getting used to proper 16: 9 rather than 16: 9 inside a 5: 4 monitor. I'll try to answer any questions people have and update this reply.

OK, so I'm looking for another monitor to go with my LG W2361V. Anyone pick me out a nice monitor from Scan.co.uk or another UK site? I want something that's 23", 1080p, has DVI/VGA/HDMI port and under £160.

EDIT: I was looking at the LG IPS235V but then I realised there is a IPS234V released. Anyone know which is better?

IIRC the LG-branded IPS monitors like IPS235V and so on, have relatively bad pixel responsiveness, regardless of whatever they're rated at. They're eIPS without enough overdrive, so slower than the usual suspects like the Ultrasharps. Too bad in Europe you get the Asus VS229H and VS239H instead of the VS229H-P and VS239H-P (the latter having overdrive controls in the form of the Asus "Trace Free" setting, the former behaving more like the LGs). Maybe you should just suck it up and save for a U2312HM, or just get some decent TN monitor in budget.

Is it possible to recommend a monitor based on the ease of reading text on the monitor? I spend most of my time just reading random stuff on my fairly old 1080p 60hz monitor. But for some reason my eyes fatigue a few times throughout the day, maybe due to my leaning back and reading at a distance. I was wondering if buying a new one specifically for this reason will make much difference.
