There has been several threads complaining about Razer BW and other razer products. have you actually used the blackwidow though? seems like you're just referring to anecdotal evidence of it being a faulty keyboard. it's easy to simply cherry pick the negativity and exclude all the positivity that a razer product in general gets. It's a thing about build quality. And do you honestly believe BW is more widely used than actual typing keyboards professional typists use?

So right now my mom is in China; any recommendations for mechanical keyboards I could tell her to look for while there?
Ducky is the only one that comes to mind. Basically, I'm hoping they'll be cheaper there. Also, which switch is the quietest? Brown?

Technically, the quietest would be reds, but you're splitting hairs with pretty much any switches that aren't cherry blue or clears. And even then, clears aren't terribly loud, just noticably louder than other switches.

Any keyboards with normal/standard keys layout. All of the popular mech. keyboards have a weird Enter button.
+ Show Spoiler +
A good layout is here, you can notice 3 buttons next to the "L" letter.

Brown/Black or Red switch if possible.

noppoo choc mini/pro, CM Storms are made in Hong Kong *Fairly certain*, and of course duckys
@ppl asking me if I used a BW, I haven't but my friend went in to Frys electronics and bought one, returned it within a month because the fkeys and macro keys completely stopped working. He later got a filco and then a topre. Now considering I have had much worst build quality keyboards such as Siig, and Adesso that have the worst wobbly keys out there, but still work after 1+ years *They are plugged into the computers around the house and are used regularly*
If you read reviews on the black widow on anywebsite, ever few there are complaints about build quality, or keys randomly stop working. Like I said, if Razer actually built quality keyboards *mechanical that is* I would have no problem recommending them to ppl, but due to amount of reviews i have read, and have had a friend buy a shitty board it has me set to never recommend them again.

I can't help you out - I'm a noob when it comes to keyboards. That being said, the Enter button and the key above it with "|" and "\" is fairly common at least in the US. Every keyboard I've ever used from personal usage to work or school has had it.

anybody got a clue, where i can get the Steelseries 7g hand rest? I already asked steelseries if they sell it separately - but no, they dont.
Are you using a 7g and not using the hand rest? Write me a pm.
Cheers

You aren't reading correctly. Blue switches have a loud click while Browns do not.

Hopefully will spice it up with custom keycaps in the future. Have been using a crappy cheap rubber dome keyboard for a long time and have pretty high WPM so I'm excited to see what the difference in feel will be (I don't expect a huge jump in performance but it seems people really enjoy typing on mechanical over regular)
+ Show Spoiler +(he has custom keycaps in this vid ) + Show Spoiler + (blue switch but same design) Should be here in time for next sc2 season will give a short review when it arrives.

Have you used those o-rings? do they make a seal so you can spill drinks on them?

O-rings only over the bottom of the keycap and won't create a seal, the liquid with the way the switches are on the board liquid seep under each keyswitch and onto the PCB.

Hey, i'm currently looking for a mechanical keyboard to buy but since it's my first one, i'm not sure what type of switches to go for. Im thinking either Cherry MX Black or Cherry MX Brown, since I use it mainly for all sorts of genre of games (SC2, CSS, various RPGs). Is there a big noticeable difference between the keys? Also, is the brown switch the quieter of the two?
I've tried typing on the black switches of a Meka G1 before, but due to not using any other mechanical keyboard, I have nothing to compare it too. However, it did feel very satisfying to type on a mechanical keyboard :D. As for the keyboard itself, i'm liking the look of a Filco Majestouch 2 or a Meka G1. After seeing lots of the positive reviews in this thread, the Filco is looking like a good candidate ^^, but i'm wondering if the lack of a handrest could cause wrist problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The keys are quite different, blacks are significantly more heavy, then browns are tactile while blacks are not. Browns are a little bit louder, but it is not a huge difference.
You won't be disappointed in a Filco, G1 is fine, abit cheaper but also a little worse quality. I don't miss my handrest, if you really want one then you can buy one (I think G1 comes with a plastic one?) Afaik you should be floating your hands over the keyboard when typing anyway.

On this site you can find Cherry MX Brown and Red as well as others with a normal layout.
