So if i wanted to buy a 6gv2 keyboard and i wanted to change the keys to possibly a just blank black style (like the das has), would there be a place i could go to find keys like these?

You definitely wont be able to swap the spacebar with WASD keys.

And the 6gv2 has weird key shapes so you might not be able to put other keys on (big enter and short right shift). 6gv2 are hard to get keys for from what I understand.

If you are going to be getting new keycaps maybe consider another keyboard with a more standard layout.

Anyone own a keyboard with brown switches and another with red switches?

From what i've read from reviews the red switch is supposed to be extremely light, probably even lighter than browns. But after testing a Rosewill red, it seems instead slightly heavier than my Filco brown.

Maybe it's due to the different keyboard brands?

I do I disagree from what I have typed on the reds are much lighter for me and browns are heavier. Personally I prefer my browns I love um :D

people generally don't consider blacks good for typing. If you want a nice keyswitch to type on get a brown, or red switches. If you can find a ghetto brown which is pretty much a red.

Blacks are ok for sc2, alot of ppl use them.

So do you guys recommend me to get the meka keyboard or a razer blackwidow. I play a decent amount of sc2 and people said that black switches are good for it, but not good for typing. Like how much would it improve from typing on rubber dome keyboard?

I type roughly 80wpm on both rubber and mech. You will not improve all that much, its just feels better to type on. I personally don't like Blackwidows just because they have those ugly macro keys. As far as the meka keyboard goes if you want to get a keyboard with blacks then go for it.... I prefer standard 108 US layout. Depends really on how much you want to spend. I personally use a leopold which are $109, but there are the Rosewill's that range from $99-108. You won't find a brown switched keyboard for less than $90. Which if you are going off Newegg the meka has the $20 rebate. There are Ducky's that range from $90-120 depending on retailer, there are the choc minis that are tenkeyless and range from $90-100, and Ficlos are standard $150+ unless you find a nice one used.

If your set on spending under $90 then the meka looks like a good deal, it will only take time for you to get used to the black switches.

If you ever have questions on other switch typed keyboards or different brands just come back to this thread or visit geekhack.org

the blackwidow is terrible don't get it, cheap plastic feel, shit loud blue keys. Definitely hard to double click for fast apm for master+ players. Get the meka keyboard, its pretty good, or the das keyboard brown switches i have one its amazing.

The non g1 is the compact keyboard right? If you don't mind the setup its good, and easy to carry around for lan. If yuou can wait for rosewill to go on sale, they are probably best one for $90, brown or red switches are best.

Well, to help you in your decision, blacks pretty much have the sole purpose of being gaming-friendly. You can double-tap with no problems, it feels heavy, but it increases resistance gradually. Meanwhile, blues are clicky (loud), and have a much more pronounced "tactile bump" when actuating the key, which makes it a much more typing-friendly, day-time keyboard (assuming people around your house sleep at night, near your room). So, those are your options when picking between a blackwidow and a TT Meka. From what i've heard, blackwidows haven't had the problems that most people complain about razer products. My friend owns one, and most likely people are bashing it because of their hate for razer products in general.

If you're looking for a middle-ground go for browns. As for improvement from typing, don't expect a mechanical keyboard to suddenly raise your WPM by 30 off the bat. The enjoyment from a mechanical keyboard comes more from the feel rather than the speed. It has practical uses, but it won't be so practical to the point where someone who goes on the computer like for an hour a day absolutely "needs" one. The speed will come gradually as you get used to the board.

However, from experience I would assume reds & browns (don't own reds) would be the fastest for typing. While blues are meant to be the "Typing" keyboard, the tactile feedback from it is so much more pronounced compared to the browns that it slows me down very slightly whenever im typing. Black's are very "heavy" in comparison to the two, so obviously it will slow you down overall, but the "linear action" feel of the blacks does feel very nice, its just a little heavy. Which is why I'm looking into getting reds for sometime in the future.

In my experience (only with filco brown switches and a topre) the advantage with mech boards over rubber boards when it comes to typing is nicer feel and fewer missclicks (possible depending on switch type). I have not noticed any improvements in my typing speed, it being about the same or almost faster on my rubber board due to the keys being very light on it.

If you want improve your typing speed you'd be better off paying for typing lessons instead of a mech board. I improved my wpm with about 30 % by using some free typing learning tool I found on the interwebz which is probably a larger improvement than you'd ever get by just changing keyboard.

That's a weird observation. I own a Filco with browns and Leopold with reds. I believe both use about the same force required, but typing on the reds just feels a lot lighter (atleast to me) because you don't have the 10-15g force increase to get over the tactile bump. The force then drops off a ton only to pick back up in linearity near the end of the keystroke. Best demonstrated by this image:

Whereas with the reds it's just a straight up linear increase:

I love both, but I definitely would not say my reds feel heavier than the browns. Maybe you feel that way because of the drop off in force after the bump? Idk, the only Rosewill I've typed on was a friends and it's non-mech, so I can't really comment on their build quality vs a Filco or something. Just curious, does it make you prefer your browns over the reds because of this?

Yea, i was initially really excited to try out the reds because of how light it's supposed to be., but the rosewill reds were kinda disappointing.
They didn't seem light.
Maybe i'm just not used to the actuation point. But i feel that the lack of a tactile bump makes it more difficult to touch type because you're never sure if the key has registered.

Not a fan of the laser-etched letters too.

So yea, I prefer filco brown by far.

Too bad WASD Keyboards doesn't offer a Tenkeyless. I'm leaning towards a Leopold Tenkeyless from Elitekeyboards now.

Anyone in Canada buy from WASD Keyboards or Elitekeyboards? How is the shipping/customs?
