Theres the Ducky Shine if you can get it where you are located. From what I hear they are pretty good quality.

There is also the Mionix Zibal, not sure about the quality, but green leds are cool.

And the new Corsair K90, but the function row and macro keys are rubber dome. But it makes up for this with one of the most creative mech keyboard designs.

So Illuminated is an option, but may not be easily available where you live. And if you really like illuminated keys then Im sure you could live with the Black Widow.
The quality concerns are a little overstated, I think there is a good chance you will get a board that works fine. But there is some element of risk.

Its like basketball. You enjoy playing basketball alot, then you would go buy a pair of basketball shoes for $100. Same with mechanical keyboard, if you spend lota time on the computer, and got the money buy one. Big difference in the comfort of typing but it won't make you a faster typer or better sc2 player, like how the shoes won't make u a better basketball player.

Are they that much better? yes but is it worth $100?, I guess its personal preference but definitely not a necessity. Never buy non mechanical gaming keyboards. Stupidest thing i've seen especially at the same price of a mechanical keyboard cause it has some fancy macro buttons n lights.

This is a great summary of mech boards. Add to the OP worthy imo (after abit of grammar cleaning).

Thanks for the useful post! I'll look into those. Also, do you recommend blues, blacks, or browns for SC2?

I use blues, the noise lets me know I am keeping that APM up and there is a good amount of feedback so I know when keys have been hit.
But you can use any of the switches for SC2, I just prefer the blues.

i used to have a steelseries mechanical keyboard and my friend said it was horrible

i now use a generic rubber keyboard and that same friend thought it was a mechnical keyboard

Sorry if I sound noob, but are mechanical keyboards really worth their 100+ price? I've read a lot of people rave about them but are they really that much better than a 10 dollar keyboard? If they are worth the investment, then aren't those similarly priced non-mechanical gaming keyboards just overpriced luxury items?

I am just wondering because I am still using my 10 year old Logitech keyboard and I just don't understand all the praise for mechanical ones.

Personally I love mechanical boards but you can't say a $100 mech board is ten times better than a good $10 not matter how hard you try imo. It's an indulgence. If you like rubber boards, they work you or if you are tight on cash then there's no real incentive to get a mech board. I do recommend trying out a few in stores though if you have the opportunity as it's much about the feeling of the switches that people get to love so reading about it on the internet is not really the same thing.

Idk if a mechanical keyboard is worth $100+ but the difference in quality is quite big. Think about the following first.

Lets compare it to basketball. If you enjoy playing basketball a lot, then you would go buy a pair of basketball shoes for $100, regardless if you play competitively or not. This is the same with mechanical keyboards. If you spend a lot of time on the computer and have the extra cash go ahead and buy one. The main difference between a mechanical keyboard and a membrane is the level of comfort for typing but it won't make you a faster typer or better sc2 player, just like how the shoes won't make u a better basketball player.

Are they that much better? Yes, but is it worth $100?, I guess its personal preference but definitely not a necessity. Remember, not a necessity! On another note, never buy a non-mechanical gaming keyboard, never at least for starcraft 2. Stupidest thing i've seen especially at the same price of a mechanical keyboard cause it has some fancy macro buttons and lights.

I own the das keyboard ultimate silent model s, brown cherry switches, and its like typing on heaven. Once you type on a mechanical keyboard, you will never want to go back to a membrane and i'm sure everyone who has a mechanical keyboard in this thread can vouch for it. As for starcraft 2, my preference as a gm zerg is the brown or red switches.

This is a great summary of mech boards. Add to the OP worthy imo (after abit of grammar cleaning).

Haha, thank you.
Just incase i did fix the grammer.

Do you guys know where I could go to find some of these keyboards and try them out? I'd really like to try some of the different brands and switch types, as it is so hard to know which you'll like best without trying them, right?

Was at Best Buy yesterday and all they had was the Razer Blackwidow. For people that know the US stores, would Fry's have 'em? Is there another good store that you can think of? (I'm in northern california).

Qpad releases 2 new mechanical keyboards with Cherry Red MX switches.

The first one is the premium MK-85 with a recommended price of 150€:
Second is a cut-down version, MK-50 with a recommended price of 80€:

MK-85 has some fancy features like seperate leds for every key and some other fancy stuff, but the MK-50 is what really interests me O_O only 80 euros for Cherry Reds that have been so rare in europe for forever... The board also, in my opinion, looks REALLY nice and clean.

For a limited amount of time you can ALSO buy a MK-85 or a MK-50 with the cherry switches of your choice(blue, brown, black, or red)

Looks pretty cool, and another option for a backlit mech board, but that enter key is really awfully shaped. Not to mention over-sized shift key on the right and under-sized on the left. o_O It just looks really strange, or is this just some standard EU key layout?

It's standard eu layout, you can order it in US layout from the site if you didn't bother checking

its 140 euros for the keyboard + 20 euros for the shipping (world wide) = $212.99

I can find a used topre board for $200 T_T

Even the $80 euro one with shipping is $133, I can get a filco for that much which is a trusted brand, to me they seemed to have overpriced the shit out of these boards. Sad really.

I was about to order a filco, and im here looking at choc mini with browns, the f keys being so close would help my tiny hands make use of the save locations. I think i just made up my mind there both great keyboards from what I read and i would love filco, but a part of me will still think what if i had those f keys closer like on that choc mini.

Anyone have experience with both of these keyboards ?
Why don't we see who is the wizard and play some one on one, I think you'll find me sympathetic to ya when I've won, It seems you've got the brawn to beat me if this was all it takes, But I've got skills to pay the bills and punish each of your mistakes.

Eh...

Europe has only the Corsair boards for cherry reds. Also all the prices include 23% tax. In US you'd list it without the tax. So it should cost around 87.50$ in the US for the cheaper keyboard. This is also why no one should ever import anything from Europe to US.

However if you can get Filcos with reds you should just buy them. I don't think you understand there's no red Filcos or anything else in europe? The only competition is K60 and K90.

Also, used topre board for 200$? You can buy them for 170€ new in finland including tax o.O

The Filco camo has media key modifiers (left start key+ F keys), there aren't many mech boards with dedicated media keys.

Well after some thought I think I'm going to buy the Corsair K90 actually(was supposed to buy a billion other boards before this, maybe I'll actually go for it this time...)

Anything to note about this? I actually think I'm going to be making great use of the macro keys, and I also think that the blue backlighting would be great. The macro keys aren't cherry reds right? That doesn't really bother me. All the useful keys are cherry red though, right? Including numpad and such? Does anyone have any experience with K90, what is the build quality like?

Apparently the F keys row and the insert, home etc keys and macro keys are rubber dome. Source
edit: found an even better source, totally confirmed now: Source 2

The Aluminium body makes me believe that build quality should be great.

Okay those keys don't really matter, I guess it should be nice then. Looks good as well and the blue background lightning might be useful and goes well with everything else I have. I think I'll get it next week and then probably post a review if I'm not too lazy.
