You are right, this would be my first mechanical keyboard.
Basically, I just wanna use something that is not rubber-dome. I'm not too serious about gaming (I only really play SC2) and I'm not a huge typist either. Also, I tend not to inflict physical harm on keyboards

So i strongly recommend that you research on your ideal switch type and keyboard and just get it.

I'm not too worried about switch types because almost any switch is gonna be way better than rubber domes (right?). Plus, the G80-3000 uses MX Blues, which seem to be pretty "newbie-friendly". I tried a Black Widow at a store once (which also uses MX Blue, if I'm not mistaken) and I really liked the feel of the keys.

Also, I don't really care about gaming features like NKRO, Macro keys, etc. I never had any need for those in SC2.

I really think a keyboard is not worth 70+ € for the stuff that I do. Maybe that means I should just get a rubber-dome. I don't know. The G80-3000 seemed nice, is there any reason why you guys would advise against it?

Once again, thank you very much.

Ah i see. In that case i guess G80-3000 would be nice. If you've tried and enjoy the cherry mx blue switches then go for it! Just make sure you get the blue switches because similar keyboard models usually come with different switches. Do let us know how it goes!

EDIT: No idea why my post is bolded O.O

If you know you like blues then the Cherry board should be fine (don't have one but the internet says they are ok)

Hope you like it

Im 90% sure that any mech board will work fine with win 98.
Maybe the driver software for the Blackwidow wouldn't work, but most boards have standard keyboard drivers.

Has anyone got the chance to try the new corsair keyboard? Considering getting it, http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-gaming/vengeance-gaming-keyboards/vengeance-k60-performance-fps-mechanical-gaming-keyboard.html

I haven't read any reviews for it, but it seems like a solid board. I like the wrist rest feature, it looks interesting and could be quite comfortable. Also the first gaming board advertised with MX reds! I think Corsair made a great choice in that respect! It's also a comparable price to the ones from EliteKeyboards.

damn looking sexy. I just got the das keyboard ultimate silent model s, no keys printed. Really like it, got it fairly cheap too, 80. Now only if i could get some white key caps for a checker'd board. T.T but the keys cost like half of the keyboard itself...

Brown cherry keys is boss, best for gaming/typing/home use. Tried the razer keyboards, such flimsy shitty keys on it, and cheap plastic feel

Edit: anyone know where i can buy key caps for my das keyboard in canada?

For the letters and arrow keys you can get cheap PBT key caps on ebay. For anything else, I have no idea.

Just a heads up that Elite Keyboards is selling every Cherry switch type in their Leopolds right now (red, blue, brown, black, and clear), prices ranging from $100-$110: http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold

I just received a white Leopold tenkeyless with Cherry clear switches (stiff tactile) and I absolutely love it. I used to own a Filco with Cherry browns and eventually moved to a Steelseries 6Gv2, the sensitive switches just aren't for me. Either way, EK is selling every switch at the moment for a very good price compared to Das, Deck, Filco, etc.

Also note that some of the run is limited. I asked if they were going to be selling a full size board with clears and they said that there were no plans for it, and that the tenkeyless clears themselves were a limited item.

Hope this helps!
OH YEAH

I'm thinking of picking up a Rosewill Cherry MX Brown Switch keyboard and so far it looks pretty good from what I've read on it. Does anyone who has bought one have anything to say about them?

The board is a rebranded filco, very solid board for under $110, RK series is a very good board for the price range. You save yourself $40-50 by buying this rather than getting a standard filco branded board.

5/5 stars on these RK-9000 boards.

There is also an entirely pink (no white keys) filco majestouch 1 around, I think its only fullsize as well. (I know because im typing on it)
But ebay would probably be the best bet there, I don't think any retailers sell them anymore.

Seems to be a ok cheap alternative. 6kro with blue alps, a little suspect keycap quality. Reading the thread it seems some people didn't like the rubber keycaps though if you are using it for more things than gaming.

Here is a link with more of a review (from the thread posted above):

Seems ok but those WASD keys look like a really big down side. I'd love a decent mechanical keyboard for $70 and under though T_T

EDIT: Cherry MX blue key switches keyboard $50 with shipping http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/83-11597&scode=GS111&CAWELAID=282396623, this one is some what known for being a hit or miss as far as build quality goes but i've had luck with it.
