Yo guys, I want to buy mechanical keyboard coz I'm sick of standard ones where the keys don't press sometimes when I try to use blink dagger.

I currently use this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/pc-accessories/keyboards/keyboards/advent-k112-keyboard-black-13828361-pdt.html

and always have used £5-10 keyboards. I like the large size of them with full key spread but it looks like mechanical/gaming keyboard tend to be a lot more compact so maybe I have to get used to that...?

I don't know if I want red or tap keys but if red is best for gaming (Dota) then I'll get that. (or whatever, I'll go with your opinion...)

Please recommend me a keyboard and I'll buy it

Price range £30-£70 with £100 max

edit: actually from what I know about myself, I probably do NOT want a red switch keyboard. i used a laptop or something with smooth keys once and it felt horrible. or maybe those were just those shitty flat keys you get on some laptops. now im not sure again

Mechanical keyboards, especially gaming ones, generally have standard size, so it will be just as smooth as any other keyboard.

Red is "supposedly" the best for gaming, I have tried and understand why people said so. With that in mind, the linear feeling is actually horrible for anything else. Also, Red switch is very linear and I would say it is different from most, if not all, laptop keys with scissors switch. I may be wrong though, but it's a good estimation. Blue switch may give you trouble double-tapping, I had a nightmare double-tapping to self-cast spells with Blue, so unless you can get your hand on one and try it out, I think better to avoid that. At least it's tactile. Brown switch is kinda middle ground between Blue and Red. So it may hit the sweet spot for you if you don't like Red.

Having using all 3 switches I would vouch for Brown for multi-purpose keyboard, even solely for gaming it's great. But I would recommend you to go to any shop and try it out. Many of the specialized shops have display models for you to try to your heart content, and switch type is really a personal preference thing. But if you cant, then Brown is probably the safer bet.

Also, for gaming keyboard, do you just need a super standard keyboard, with/without numpad or do you want macro keys as well?

I actually have no idea what website is reliable to check for UK availability and pricing, but given the price range, my guess-timation, and suggestion, will be CM Storm lines for the quality of product and availability. Check out CM Storm Quickfire XT for standard with numpad, Quickfire Rapid for tenkeyless (no numpad), and Quickfire Trigger for macro keys. I heard Zowie Celeritas is decent, didnt have chance to try it though. Probably want to avoid Razer BW 2014 if your main concern is quality

edit: checking from here and here, easiest to find and on the nicer end of price range are probably CM Storm products

I need a numpad but don't care for macro/any extra anythings. (im used to £5 keyboard)

CM Storm Quickfire XT looks good! that is standard size keyboard these days right? i'm used to much bigger keyboards but if that's the normal deal now then i'm happy to go with it .....

Yeah, the size of Quickfire XT is as standard as you can get nowadays for mechanical keyboard iirc.

As an avid ThinkPad user, it's always a hard decision for me:
1. type on my laptop keyboard and be able to use my loved Trackpoint aka never leave the homerow
2. have the joy of typing on a mechanical keyboard (browns or blues)

Finally, a solution is coming: http://www.guru-board.com/english/features_en

I've just searched the whole internet for the Filco with blank keys (especially the white one http://webwit.nl/input/filco/fkbn87-white-4.jpg (o gosh)) but can't find anywhere to buy it.

So I wonder; do you know any shop that actually has it or the black counterpart, preferably in northern Europe?

If that isn't the case, is there any shop selling Leopold, Ducky etc that are TKL, blank keys and MX brown or blue? ;(

Might be better to find any of the previously mentioned keyboards in a TKL's layout and then pickup some blank keys.

Yes, it seems like that. It seems like only Filcos "ninja" keyboards are liberated from the ugly capslock, scroll lock labels to the top right. So ninja TKL + blank buttons seems to be the way to go.

Just got my CM Storm NovaTouch TKL. Also purchased some extra PBT caps for it, it's really nice to write on, will see how Topre works for SC2 later tonight (after Dreamhack). Super happy with it, I've been dying to try out this switch since I first started getting mechanical keyboards and with CM the possibility came.

Just looking for opinions on this keyboard?
http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=794/ID=23351/SID=689423041/productdetails.html

I'm aiming for a decent, sturdy mechanical keyboard with no macro keys (hate those things) and background lighting. Any thoughts on this?

Given the choices available on the website you linked, your current choice is probably your best option so I would say go for it, although it does have backlighting if that concerns you.

Is there any reason why SC2 won't recognize my multiple mouse and keyboard clicks/strokes? I guess, mainly keyboard strokes? I have a mechanical keyboard (CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate) and supposedly have it set to 1MS by hitting Fn and -. However I notice that sometimes SC2 still doesn't recognize my keystrokes for some weird reason. I swear I pressed escape to cancel a building and stop it from being built, but it still continues for example. There's no way I average only 100APM when in some games I average 160APM.

Not familiar with that specific keyboard, but if it has a PS/2 connection you're better off using that as this way it forces an interupt, which the hardware and therefore operating system can not ignore. With USB the hardware/ operating system is basically doing;

..you pressed a key yet?
..you pressed a key yet?
..you pressed a key yet?
..you pressed a key yet?
..you pressed a key yet?

Over and over and over. ie Constantly polling the device(s) to see what's being pressed or moved.

Perhaps someone move familiar with this could explain it better, or might even say it doesn't or shouldn't matter. But using PS/2 forces your computer to take note of what was pressed and when.
Ex Zerg learning Terran. A bold move.

Filco makes the best Cherry MX keyboards in my opinion, that first one if you like red will do you good if you can stomach the price.
