I have a mechanical keyboard but I do not like the way the switches feel very much. I would like to somewhere I can get a feel for how different switches feel before I decide to dish out close to 100 dollars for a keyboard. Is there a somewhere I could go to get a good feel for the switches?

You'll probably only see Razer keyboards for the most part. There are switch testers you can buy online, but they cost $10 to $20.

I'm looking for a small compact keyboard (no numpad, arrow keys or not doesn't really matter). Currently targeting the CM Storm quickfire rapid but I was wondering what other good options there are? Prefering Brown or Blue switches.

If you're looking for a small keyboard here are my suggestions: Poker II (if you're into the 60% stuff, although not everyone is) CM Storm QFR (probably the one everyone will suggest to you for good reasons) HHKB (Happy Hacking Keyboard) KBT Race (though I think this one is out of stock) The Ducky Mini is coming out soon, but I'd only get it if you're an LED enthusiast.

Micro Center is an odd franchise. I too would recommend Noppoo Choc Mini, as I have and will continue to do.

If I hate the Blue switches can I assume that I won't like Black very much? ^Blue and Brown are relatively close to eachother (but brown doesn't have the loud click, and has actuation point much much closer to release point which is a "flaw" for spamming blues) black/red are pretty much the same thing but black is heavier Is there a good way to replace switches on your current board? AFAIK - not at all, unless you want to replace only a small amount of keys (lets say like 6 on the numpad) then it's not cost effective or easy at all to replace half of a board or the whole board with another switch

I just hate the way the blue feels when I try to macro because the switches are pretty high. I don't really mind the sound too much but I wouldn't mind it at all if they were a bit more quite.

I know webhallen has them (http://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/datorer_och_tillbehor/158770-filco_ninja_majestouch-2_tenkeyless-svensk&atcl=external:ref). Not sure about Leopold though but there's been a noticeable increase in the amount of mechanical keyboards available in the past year or so. Otherwise I concur that keyboardco is a very nice retailer even if it's outside Sweden. Very nice support if you have questions, a good few models to choose from and reasonable quick delivery, I've bought a topre keyboard and some other stuff from them in the past.

If you haven't yet, I'd read up on what the four main mechanical switches are exactly (blues, browns, reds, and blacks). You can check out OCN's guide. Here's a graph on the force/sound to compare mechanical switches. As you can see, blues are the loudest and require 5g of more force than brown and red switches (which isn't much, but going up to 60g with blacks you may notice the difference). You can replace the switches, but I HIGHLY advise you to not do so. It's a long process that involves taking apart your keyboard and replacing switches with a soldering iron. Not to mention you have to purchase switches to replace the current ones, it may be more expensive than you'd like. I wouldn't recommend this to beginners who have no knowledge in this area. 90% of the time the keyboard you're buying will have a variety of switch types to choose from so you do not have to resort to such a thing. On July 18 2014 03:31 yido wrote: So the Browns seem to be much better when trying to macro Terran? I just hate the way the blue feels when I try to macro because the switches are pretty high. I don't really mind the sound too much but I wouldn't mind it at all if they were a bit more quite. Preference for switch types is a purely subjective topic. Example: I have roommates that have played SC2 with red, blue, and brown switches but we all played at mid-masters. Just a disclaimer, a mechanical keyboard is not going to make you better at the game. People can disagree with me, but I personally believe it's foolish to say that you can't do as well with a rubber dome in SC2 than with a mechanical keyboard (just look at BW for reference). I'd argue most would just get a mechanical keyboard for comfort and customization than anything. I apologize if this is not what you meant when looking at mechanical keyboards, but some do because of the "gaming keyboard" advertisements by companies like Razer and I just want to make sure you're not buying a mechanical keyboard for the wrong reasons. Although if you want the "generic" answer..yes, browns are "better" for an RTS game such as SC2. Browns are quieter than blues (refer to the graph I linked above). If you still find that they're too loud, you always have the option of adding o-rings to the switches. In a nut shell, there are three sizes of o-rings to choose from (I believe there are still only three, but correct me if I'm wrong) which you attach to the stem of your keycap (the "plastic" thing you press on when typing) which reduces the travel distance as well as dampening the sound of the keys bottoming out.

I didn't think it would make me a better player, I just have some disposable income that I didn't have before. Thanks for the links.

When in doubt go for Blacks over Reds or how should I approach this? As for the actual keyboard I'm looking for a TKL that's simple, classy, built to survive and to bludgeon burglars to death without breaking. I wouldn't mind something like volume keys or backlighting but I consider either more like cool gimmicks than anything else. The only thing that really caught my eye so far is the Filco Majestouch-2 (or more specifically a user modified variant that looks like this) but 170€ (+keycaps sometime in the future) seems just too much for me, especially when I'm not abso-fucking-lutely sure about the switches I really prefer. Over on reddit someone suggested grabbing a CM Storm Quickfire, painting it & buying a couple of keycaps to get rid of the branding... at which point I might as well see if I find something else that actually fits what I'm looking for. Is there anything you guys can think of in the 100-130€ range that sounds like something for me? The main candidate so far, unless I really want to deal with the higher price of the Filco or painting a QF, would be a Duck Shine 3. Cheers. <3
