For me, I like Microsoft Standard keyboard because the keys are lower and it's quieter, but the feel isn't as good as a mechanical one.

If you like something where the keys don't move as much, you probably won't be happy with mech. There's other very good styles of keyboards like "scissor switches" that also work well in reducing typing errors and stuff.

Cherry has this one for about 20 €:

http://cherry.de/cid/kabeltastaturen_eVolution_STREAM_XT_Corded_MultiMedia_Keyboard.htm

It's not mechanical, but it's perhaps as good as normal keyboards can possibly get. It's not gaming and does not have n-key roll-over. I don't know what other keyboards from them have the same technology for the keys.

I'll show you the one I have that I like a lot, but is kinda fucked up

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-ca/p/comfort-curve-keyboard-3000/3TJ-00002

It's got a huge "hill" in the middle that makes it weird. I didn't like it at first, but now I do.

The thing I don't like about most keyboard is the F1-9 keys are too small as I need larger ones close to the 1-0 keys for my games. But I don't think any company does that.

I like the feel of mechanical keyboard, but the keys are too high (does that make sense?) and require too much effort to press for the style I type and play. I also like the sound but wish it was a bit muffled as it can be pretty loud with its clicking.

Am I just absolutely screwed in terms of preferred keyboard?

That cherry keyboard might be a bit too much like a laptop which is not what I'm after >_<

Ergonomics are fun, I wish there were more functional, mechanical ergonomic options. You do have some options, in that you can buy little O rings to put under the caps and dampen the click of the switch no matter which switch you went for.

As far as function keys that are close to your numeric keys, the Noppoo Choc Mini, is the only board I have seen where the function keys are directly in line with the numeric keys

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k574/12378467823462783946237846237849623781423784162378/noppoo/DSC04482.jpg

The Noppoo is on top in the photo above.

The key bit may be where you run into a bit of trouble, I'll again lobby for my Noppoo which is comparatively low profile in terms of the height of the keys, but I don't think there is anything that has those... chicklet style keys for lack of a better term, that are common on Mac and other more modern boards.

The Koppo one looks good, where can I find that? What's the cost?

Yeah, the width might be just something I'll either have to go to or simply stick with non-gmaing keyboards ):

I got mine from Amazon it is about $100.

The width is a bit too high. It needs to be about 25% less than that.

I think I'm just screwed here haha

Hahahaha, the only smaller boards I know of are Poker IIs, but they have no function key row at all. They are still there, just underneath the number row. :

Sorry, I meant the keys are too thick :x

There's a Cherry G84-4100 keyboard that has "ML" switches instead of the normal MX:

http://i.imgur.com/JdVvwtG.png

It's 50 €. Everything about it is cramped. The keys are literally smaller and for example the distance from A..sdfghjk..L is shorter than on a normal keyboard.

There's also one with number pad:

That wasn't for you.

I have a white Keycool 87 with brown switches. Someone once sold a bunch on amazon.de for cheap. You might be able to find something like that keyboard on eBay and shipped from China or Hongkong.

I don't think there's a keyboard you can buy normally that's white and ten-key-less, so something like nordic layout will be a problem.

What would you define as cheap? The best fit, just with cheap would be a QFR from Cooler Master, which you can find for around 50 USD.

Hello all

Iam looking for a sharp keyboard ofcourse and it seems to be plenty but i am also looking for a quiet keyboard. Kinda hard to found one.

Anyone know of a silent keyboard which is good for gaming, aka mechanical keyboard?

Model S by Das Keyboard is one of the few I know advertised as silent, I've gamed with it and they aren't bad for that purpose, though they are a bit boaty.

Mechanicals in general aren't quiet. You can try things like rubber o-rings under the keycaps that will help to quiet them down. It's also a matter of how hard you type.

Obviously the clicky switches like MX blues and greens are going to be a bit louder as well. Hypothetically if you can type without bottoming out each key then browns and linear switches like reds and blacks are basically silent. But most people will be bottoming out.

edit; this may help you

O rings are an option for dampening as well.

I think the das keyboard "silent" is just using regular brown switches. A few people called browns "silent" when advertising browns and blues.. but if somebody sleeps in the room next door, you probably won't have fun trying to play an intense game on either one of them at 3am

Cannot find keyboard accessories.
I need hinges which are used to hold Space cap, enter cap and other big keys caps.
I am not sure how to call the other thing. It's a plastic thing which is used by these big caps to be fixed to hinges.you can remove it from the keycap.
Need to buy them but cannot find them.

Ps: Ok Hinges are called Stabilizers :

Due to availability in NZL I a very limited in what is affordable. I currently have a 6gv2 SS with black switches and it is dieing.

I am trying to decide between a CM Storm quick fire stealth or a razer tournament addition with orange switches.

So I would like to hear the TL recommendation and also whether all the advertising rubbish from Razer regarding their switches is worth paying attention to?

I would look at geek hack for a review of the orange switches. No one in this thread has that board to my knowledge. I do have a QFR, and would recommend it. Spacing between keys is a bit wonky for hands like mine (larger) but I don't mind it at all.
