I just recently bought a Filco Majestouch Ninja with Cherry Browns and I'm loving this keyboard!

I might also buy another one (maybe the Tenkeyless version) for my office since I spend half of my time there

I just have this dilemma of wanting to buy the new Razer Blackwidow Stealth which also uses Cherry Browns. I'm not sure if the quality has improved from their Cherry Blues but I like that matte finish.

Checked the Razer store and its currently out of stock and I'm still trying to find reviews about it but no feedback yet on its durability.

Your thoughts would really be appreciated :D

What is the difference between the Steelseries 7g and the Steelseries 6gv2? I am thinking of getting one or the other, but I am not sure. It is my first mechanical keyboard purchase.

Eh. Looks like I am getting the 7G since I want to use the Blizzcon code and there are no 6gv2s in stock.

Basically, 7g keyboard has USB ports to microphone and audio in its side.. besides of wrist rest.

To be honest, there are not so many important differences .7G and 6gv2 are a pretty good inversion from any point of view.

Another difference is the backspace key. The 7g has a smaller Backspace to accommodate the bigger Enter key. The size of it is the same with the normal key size.

The 6gv2 has the wider Backspace with the standard Enter key.

So basically its also a matter of preference on what size the keys are.

Care to elaborate as to why?

Is it Quality? Ergonomics?

I'm not much of a Macro keys fan since I don't play much MMO's but I'm liking the lights and the function keys.

Someone on geekhack is reporting that Dell has the Blackwidow (blue switches) available for $56 shipped with coupon code JP30L83FHFZ7BL (takes 20% off).

Quality yes
Ergonomics yes
Reliability yes
backlit no
Better board overall yes, razer blackwidows just suck in build quality. If you look at reviews filco tops razer 10-1.

I am a Filco fanboy, not going to lie.

However, I do have a couple other boards, and my first board was an xArmor (before it got rebranded). They are pretty nice for having the extra features.

Can't really beat Filco quality though, and the Keyboard Company service is great. Bruce is awesome, and if you ever have questions for them you can ask him in their GeekHack subforum.

Geekhack is a great place to learn, just be aware that if you spend too much time there you will end up like the rest of us. No money, and a ton of keyboards!

In terms of quality, filco is miles ahead of razer. However, you are not going to get all the other features like the backlighting and usb ports. It's up to you and what features you value.
For example, to me, backlighting is a cool aesthetic and it's nice to have the usb ports, but having a top quality product that feels as solid and heavy as my filco is the most important thing to me.

Also I think I will just say that WASD keyboards are also really great build quality. They use the Costar stabilizers (same as filco), and you can completely customize your keycaps for about the same price as a filco. People that have bought from them are reporting nothing but good things, and they are seriously on par with filco quality which is something that I would not just say about any company.

Topres are nice also, but beyond the budget of your average gamer. They feel so smooth and are quite a bit quieter than most undampened Cherry MX based boars. Realforce boards are notorious for having incredible build quality, maybe even the best in a retail (non custom) board out of pretty much everything that is available.

To everyone asking about the steelseries boards:

The 6gv2 has a different layout. Both have the non-standard "bigass enter" but the 7g has that annoying small backspace key. I actually don't know why companies still use this layout, I've yet to meet a single person who prefers it.

Since build quality has come up again, let me submit as a data point that I received a Rosewill in the mail last week and to me it is indistinguishable from my Filco in terms of weight, build, and feel.

Europeans use the "bigass enter" layout. Maybe aimed primarily towards that market, dunno.

The thing marketed towards the European market is anything that uses the European keyboard layout. Steelseries keyboards don't.

I just ordered a Leopold linear full keyboard with cherry red switches. I imagine the lightness of the keys will make them very good for starcraft 2 since there is a lot of double tapping.

I'm using the blackwidow atm but the glossy finish is annoying and the edge of the keyboard that comes towards you is ackwardly long for my taste. I started playing starcraft on a simple small keyboard, so having to kind of reach around this edge to hit control is a bit cumbersome. I think the leopold/filco simple keyboard layout will be a little more comfortable for me.

It basically came down to the Blackwidow stealth (no gloss so thats a plus), the Corsair K60 (also has red switches). Given that extended edge of the blackwidow and the fact the Corsair K60 actually wasn't 100% mechanical and that it may or may not be coming out anytime soon, pushed me to go ahead and get the Leopold.

I hope it's as good as people say. >.>

There is a lot of different layouts for the europe, eastern europe and parts of asia use a more similar look to the 6gv2. My point was that most use a large enter key and maybe this was an attempt to create a more universal appeal. It was just a theory.
