I want to get a second mechanical keyboard for work and can't decide between Leopold and Filco.
The Leopold FC300 is 99,000 KRW (89USD), the Filco Majestouch 2 NINJA TKL is 165,000 KRW (149USD).
The keyboards look basically the same, except for the arguably cooler ninja keycaps on the Filco. Is the build quality of the Filco really so much better to warrant the $49 price difference?

The only major difference is that the Leopold uses different stabilizers for the large (shift, spacebar) keys than Leopold. Some don't like the Leopold stabilizers as much (claim they feel mushier) but most can't really feel a difference.
The Leopold has velcro-ish pads on the bottom to keep it from sliding if you use the things on the bottom to prop the keyboard up. The Filcos used to not have that, don't know if they do now. Otherwise I'd go with the Leopold for the price difference.

Hi Snowbird! I have been missing the lack of player interviews on GSL.
DystopiaX summed it up, the only way to justify the Filco is if you really like the ninja keycaps or hate cherry stabilisers.

The Leopold looks a bit plasty to me in comparison to the Filco. And maybe they should think about updating that Num/Caps/Scroll section because it doesn't look that hot imo.

I agree, that part is ugly. But the Filco isn't $60 prettier.

Even as someone with a filco i wouldn't pay 60 bucks more, especially since leopolds are easily available in korea as far as i know. Go with the leopold.

But can it really be $60 dollars more just because of looks/design? I have this feeling there must be something else they charge extra for. Maybe they charge extra for their own technology they use or something. It's pricey nonetheless.

Brand and reputation, filco's are known for being pretty much bulletproof. Leopolds don't have that reputation, as far as i know.

Oh i see. I would probably be happy to try one out if they fixed that Num/Caps/Scroll section i was talking about earlier and made some small changes to the looks of it overall. Also if it was in snow white.

Older Leos can glitch out the firmware on rare occasions, but that's literally it. It's only more worth it to get a Filco if you're a modder for a nice list of reasons.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I'll just go with the Leopold then.
I have a Majestouch 2 with MX Reds for home use already and since I got it I can't stand my crappy rubber dome keyboard at work anymore. (Actually it's a DT35 which is decent, but still...)

If you're going for a Leopold, I'd put a few more dollars down and get the FC700r. I own it and it's amazing.

What's the difference between FC300R and FC700R? Only difference I can see is that the FC700R is tenkeyless

It also comes with feet grips and locks up a bit less frequently than the 200 and 300R models. The lockup thing isn't generally a problem, but they have fixed the driver issues related to the ~21 key rollover over USB for the most part on the 700r.

I kinda want one of those Happy Hacking Professional 2 Type S keyboards in white. But it would be $445.00 + shipping.
Wish we had a special store here in scandinavia that focused on keyboards only.

Just like an Apple store. I believe that peripherals are just important as the computer/device you use them with. I can't believe that people buy those wireless/bluetooth aluminum wrapped scissor switch boards made by apple. First off, the only quality part of that board is the aluminum. Second the apple logo inflates the price of that keyboard. Lastly, Any mechanical is better than those ugly and nasty feeling things.
Anyways, yes it would be awesome to have a store dedicated to keyboards, but sales might be difficult as a real business.

I have the Fullsize Leopold MX Blue "Otaku" version and I absolutely love it. I've had it for about 7-8 months and I've had no issues whatsoever. The plastic is very durable, and it doesn't feel "cheap" at all. Definitely recommend it to anyone curious about mechanical keyboards.

Yeah, I've owned both the FC200r (currently sitting heavily modified and chilling out of its case on a table in my room) and an FC700r currently waiting in the wings for me to have spare cash to mod it out.
