Anyone got any idea what the pro (bigger) version of this keyboard is like compared to the smaller CM Storm Rapid? I'd prefer to get the latter with reds but it looks like they will be out of stock everywhere forever in the U.K. I'm guessing it's not based on the FILCO build which is why it's far easier to find these than the CM Storm rapid's in Reds.

i got the CM storm pro and compared to my noppoo choc mini i can say that i prefer the mx reds over the black switches by far. The partial lighting sometimes pisses me off, all keys are transparent, all they did is not add leds underneath the right part of the keyboard.

But i got the Storm for 70€ so it was kind of a bargain, most other red switch big keyboards cost 100+€ here in germany.

I have to Ducky keyboards now, one red and one brown, and I would not recommend them. They have something called "Cherry Stabilizers" on the space bar and shift keys that make them feel different than the other keys. They feel mushy. If you are going to get a mechanical keyboard, make sure they hast Costar stabilizers. This is one of those little things I really wish I knew before I dropped so much money on these keyboards.

Also, overall, having tried all of the switch types and having one of each, I would only recommend Blues and Reds.

Someone might follow your recommendation and be totally dissapointed after the purchase. You recommend them because they are the switches YOU prefer. Another person might like another type of switch.

The problem with that sentence "I would only recommend Blues and Reds." is the word only. If you had just written "I would recommend Blues and Reds." it would be totally fine saying that.

No offence taken i hope

Yeah buddy! I loove the four common switches. I like some switches more than others Reds > Blues > Blacks > Browns. Browns last 'cause i'm brown.
For the Dominion!

I have contribute to this because I personally own the brown version of the CM Storm QFP. This is my advice; don't get it. You're better off getting the CM Storm Trigger instead. Why? I'll explain.

CM Storm QFP:
1. Made by iOne
2. The keycaps are of poorer quality than the QFR series
3. Partial backlighting
4. This isn't true for all QFPs, but some do have an uneven high, so the keyboard wobbles a bit
5. Detachable USB cord routing is pretty bad. You can't route the usb cord coming out from the middle.

CM Storm Trigger:
1. Still from CM Storm
2. Made by Costar
3. Full backlighting
4. The same price as the QFP if you find deals, which there are a few on at the moment
5. USB hubs (if you need them)
6. Detachable wrist rest (if you prefer them or not)
7. USB connection to power the keyboard is still funny even on the Trigger if you dislike it coming out from the right only.

CM Storm QFR Blues on sale on Amazon for $66.64. Should I buy it or try to wait out for another sale?

They go on sale VERY often on numerous websites. That's typically the price they go on sale for, so you purchase it if you want. They usually don't go for any cheaper than that. If they do, its give or take five dollars.

Does anyone have a suggestion for which grease to use on the stabilizers of the larger keys on keyboards using Costar style stabilizers? Or perhaps which grease I should avoid? I'm searching for something particularly thick that will muffle any rattling of the metal bar part of a stabilizer, and will not creep away from the spot I've put it. The grease should also not change consistency if the room temperature gets very cold or very hot.

Hi, I just ordered a Tesoro Durandal G1N for 75€. I guess that's pretty much the cheapest mechanical you can find here with scandinavian lay-out. It's pretty much identical to Qpad MK-50 or MK-85.
Found them with reds, blues and blacks.

Anyone here have a KBT Race keyboard? I'm thinking of buying one with blue switches, but the only thing I'm worried about is its durability.

Personally I don't think I've seen anyone mention a KBT Race on TL once. Although I do know there are quite a few people who own it on GeekHack. You may want to head over there and ask for their advice if nobody here seems to know. Although what do you specifically mean by durability? Keyboards are built to last...except if they're made by iOne.

Not in desperate need of a new keyboard, but I've been trying to find a very specific combination of characteristics, to no avail. Hoping someone here might be able to help.

What I'm looking for:
Tenkeyless
Cherry MX Red switches
Blank keycaps
Black keyboard body and white keycaps

If possible, scandinavian(danish) keyboard layout. Not stricly necessary, but would be nice.
Hopefully not incredibly expensive or with shipping that equals the keyboard itself in price.

Try: Wasdkeyboards.com.......

-- Supposedly by the end of the year they will release a TKL version. But they match all your above requests except I am unsure about the Scandinavian layout and shipping price.

And from what I hear, everyone loves those keyboards, if you are willing to wait for the TKL version ~
Good luck

If you don't want to wait for WASD, buy a CM, leopold or Filco TKL and then buy some blank white keycaps. You can get them from WASD or ebay.
Not sure how available danish layout is.

Yeah, thanks for the responses. Those are pretty much the options I've been looking at so far. Didn't know about the supposedly upcoming WASD TKL version though.

Seems like it's somewhat a confirmation of the fact that getting all of what I want in one keyboard isn't really possible, and that I'll have to buy and replace the keycaps myself afterwards unless WASD really do release a TKL version.

I've been eyeing the Vortex RACE for awhile now, since I've been looking for a compact tenkeyless keyboard (I really love this F# key position on this this keyboard). The only reason I'm still debating on it is because I haven't been able to find many solid reviews on it. I was wondering if anyone has used one and could give me a recommendation on it?

On the wasdkeyboards website:

Many people have been asking about our upcoming V2 keyboard. Our original plan was to have the keyboard released in time for Christmas. Unfortunately, we had to make some last minute changes to the case. The target release date is now Feb/Mar of 2013.

Oh, damn. I had looked through that entire section, but it never seemed clear to me that "v2" was the TKL version that was talk about. The more you know.
