It uses "clear" switches with a more pronounced tactile feel than the brown switches, and the same stronger spring as black switches instead of the spring in brown/blue/red switches. Yeah, there were two different desciptions in my post (one for Q = brown and one for Q = clear). I corrected it. Thank you ![]()

So my sister bought me the CM Storm QFR Red switches for my birthday, I absolutely love the keyboard. While I was searching the web a little bit, I figured out something odd about mine. I am the only one who doesn't have the CM storm decals on the top of the board?? Both decals (the one between the ESC key and the 1 key and the other one up from the arrows keys) aren't there. I also noticed that my spacebar doesn't have "Quickfire" wrote on it and that both of my windows keys aren't they keys with the CM storm logo on it but rather keys that are wrote "WIN" on them. I actually enjoy having these decals gone, the keyboard look less branded and have a cleaner look IMO. So I just wanted to know if I'm the only in this situation. Thanks!! Sounds like it. Mine has all the decals. Congrats, I guess?

I believe CM storm reacted to the criticism people had on the QFR, which was that it looked absolutely gaudy with all the branding and logo's. Therefor the newest versions don't have as much branding on it.

If you read on OCN (they have a CM Storm Rep there), they removed the branding on the newer batches of QFRs I believe about a month or two ago. Personally I like the branding though, but that's just my opinion. Most people still hated it though, and I'm glad CM listens to complaints.

The full size CM storm keyboards are not manufactured by the same OEM as the quickfire rapid, but by a far less reputable manufacturer. Keep that in mind.

Hard choice, also havent seen a version with browns at any local stores yet. are there any other quality keyboards with backlighting? (besides the ducky, i dont like the LED leakage)

There are not a whole lot of quality keyboards that offer backlighting, i'm afraid.

I found out today that the trigger is actually manufactured by costar, same as filco etc. I dont think the pro is though. So I might give it a go.

In that case i'd say it's worth a shot. CM have said that they were not satisfied with having iOne as a manufacturer, and they were trying to move away from using them. Good to know that they are actively doing that.

My family are starting to complain about the noise quite a bit, would brown switches be the way to go with a replacement? will it feel much different? If browns are the way to go, could anyone suggest me a good place or good boards to get for the UK as most of the links i have seen in this thread are either US or AU based. Thanks!

Instead of getting a different keyboard altogether you might wanna look into o-ring modifications, they seem to dampen the sound quite a bit.

Yes browns feel quite different and are notably quieter. You can make them even more quiet with o-rings/landing pads. thekeyboard co is the only UK store I know of. Apparently quite reputable even if their website is pretty ugly. Grabbing a Filco is never a bad choice. This is a good point. There is a video comparing the sound of each switch with and w/o orings. Ill try find it. Here it is

Here it is Grabbing a filco is indeed never a bad choice (expecting my first filco to arrive tomorrow D but it's quite an expensive one. Any cherry MX switch aside from the blue one is noticably quieter, with the blacks and reds being the quietest in the bunch. There's some comparison video's available on youtube, take a look there.
