My only issue w fresh install is that i dont have a windows disk and my win 10 was an upgrade so i dont actually ave a win 10 key.
Plus ive disabled all the crap for tracking etc. But if i can get my win 10 key with jellybean keyfinder Ill definitely try fabs auto backup

Hm.... it still doesn't matter, your fresh Win 10 will download your key as soon as you connect it to internet. If you're not sure you could try just doing fresh installation on SSD and checking whether it activates. It should. Just be sure to use the installation media for the same version of Win 10 you're using: Home or Pro, 32 or 64bit

Hello friends. I have a fairly simple question I hope will get a simple answer. I have a Durdle Beach headset with 3.5mm jack inputs. I got an adaptor for USB (because I wanted to reduce interference). I plugged it in and could hear the computer just fine, however, when it came to TS/Discord, my voice was weak and I couldn't hear the other people at all. I have an onboard sound card and I wonder if it's because the soundcard isn't connected to the USB ports. Any ideas?

Windows often makes you reactivate after changing hardware, but I think you'd still be OK without the key.

did a fresh install anyway, was just easier. Backed up personal files and let steam and other things download over night

I didn't get an answer the last time i asked, but i hope that someone may help me or at least point me in some direction regarding what to look for:
About half the time my PC launches, there seems to be something wrong with 3D processing. Everything works normal, until i try to start any game. All of the games i have tried in that situation lead to some different error message or other symptoms that makes them not launch.

A list of symptoms that i remember, i will update them with the actual error messages the next time it happens.
Stardew Valley: Error message saying that there is something wrong with 3D
Legend of Grimrock: Some Direct 3d error
Orcs Must Die Unchained: Loading screen is just purple.
Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Stuck in Loading screen that usually lasts 2 seconds.
The Pc works fine otherwise, and obviously my graphics card is working, since i have an image on my screen. The weird thing is that this happens only about half the time i launch my PC, so restarting enough times (Usually 1-2x) fixes it for a while, and i might get lucky with it not happening for a week.
I have no clue what the problem might be. I have reinstalled my graphics drivers and let DirectX repair itself. I will try to remember to check dxdiag when it is not working again. When the problem doesn't manifest, dxdiag reports no errors.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have really no clue. Would it be possible for you to get similar graphic card and see if those errors happen as well?
I can't think of anything outside of hardware issue, even tho the fact GPU may work fine for bunch of days puts this into doubt as well.

When bizarre shit goes wrong I default to blaming one of two things: PSU or overheating. If those are rules out, it gets a lot harder. My best guess would be a broken pipe on your going, but that's a fabrication fault and you should have been having these problems from the start.

It is almost certainly not the PSU, i had issues with a shitty one earlier and got a new quality one half a year ago, and everything worked well. Afaik PSU things usually lead to weird shutdowns and things like that, not just stuff not working.
No, i can not get a similar graphics card. I could try installing my old shitty one and see if that fixes anything, but i am not certain if that would help me diagnose anything, as it also needs its own software (NVidia vs AMD). Plus, it is really hard to test quickly if something actually worked because even now it sometimes works for a few days without problems. And i don't want to run on my old graphics card forever.
I am almost certain that it is a software issue, as it seems to be linked to the launch of the PC. If it works when i launch the PC, it works no matter how long i keep the PC running. If it doesn't work when i launch the PC, it doesn't work until i restart the PC. (This would also speak against heating being the problem, though i am going to check temperatures the next time the problem occurs) I can not see how hardware would do this. (Though i am also very confused why software would only work half the time)

You could check the Windows "Event Viewer" for errors. Maybe something interesting is recorded there. This could help with searching about the problem with Google. You can sort the list by the date column and can try to find the old messages that were recorded when you had problems, so you don't have to wait until the problem shows up.
Check the Device Manager to see if there's a warning added to a device there when things don't work. The message there will also show up in the Event Viewer.

I'm sure this is a very simple question, but I'm looking for a way to monitor my internet connection in real time. Trying to figure out if my lag issues are because of the internet or hardware or Valve.

Monitor what exactly? There are tools like perfmon, the task manager's network tab, netmeter, netlimiter, etc. but they all tell you different things.

I'm not sure what you mean, however I think you mean this.
To check your ping/latency to a Steam server for example :
Open "Cmd" (go to start -> type CMD)
Type or copy : "ping lux.valve.net -t > C:\steamping.txt"
edit : (lux = EU West 1) for US:
iad.valve.net - US East (Sterling, VA)
eat.valve.net - US West (Seattle, WA)
Depending on how long you want to test, you just wait. For stability i'd suggest ~5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, you press CTRL+C in the CMD screen to stop.
Now open C:\steamping.txt and look at the "Time = " result. If they're all around the same, then you have a stable connection. If there's a huge fluctuation, you will have "spikes of lag" during games probably aswell.
You can do this during different times on the day, to be sure it isn't time related.

Thanks for your help. You helped me confirm that it's probably not my internet per se. Someone suggested the router and I'm getting more RAM, so we'll see if that helps.

I have a 5v hdmi switch that I can't find the power cord too but I found a 12v one that works. can I use it or is it going to fry or otherwise cause damage?

Almost certainly cause dmg. Ever tried putting your 110v appliances into the 220v European grid? They get toasted pretty fast.

is celeron n3350 or atom bay trail good enough for watching twitch streams (and browsing at the same time)?

I would stay away from anything with Atom, unless you really need battery life. They're awful in every device I have touched, and I work at computer shop.
Not sure about that Celeron, but depending on the Atom model, it should be better. Slightly.

My brother's switching to Verizon FIOS and wants to get his own modem/router instead of paying $10/month to rent one. Is there a list of units that are known to work somewhere? I'm having trouble determining what will or won't work.
