Hi all, I previously built a computer about a year ago, posted about it in this link
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2jbqjb/build_complete_new_postwedding_present_to_myself/
I got a BenQ XL2411Z from my wife for christmas to replace my old 24" monitor, and it looks absolutely great. I installed a custom color profile as described here
https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/2o5ny1/anyone_got_a_good_setting_for_benq_xl2411z/
I've tested with testufo, the 144hz settings are working fine, everything is going great. However, I like to mirror the display of my main monitor onto my TV via an HDMI cable when I game so that my wife can watch as she does whatever, and when I duplicate the display, the color settings of my monitor get all screwed up and it becomes completely washed out. The color profile is still installed and looks active, so I don't know what the problem is. If I stop duplicating the display again, the colors go back to normal. I also did not have this problem in the past when I was using my old monitor. Any thoughts on how to avoid this issue or how to fix it (other than not duplicating the display)?
Thanks

Even if they boot partition isn't recognized, as long as bios recognizes that its plugged in, you could potentially recover data fairly easily.
actually the hdd is 160gb, just the biggest partition was 80. catch is that at startup the slave line is empty... nowhere does it say that hdd is connected to any port. im thinking about doing a windows xp install on external sd card then try to boot from there. the hdd itself works for some reason it gets the voltage and the needle is spinning but data transmission is shot it might be the cable but so far anything goes (it has almost 30000 hours on him which is well.. a lot)

Still sounds extremely old.
Anyway, just because the boot sector is hosed doesn't mean the data is inaccessible. A windows repair can fix a broken MBR and you can also run a simple OS off a thumb drive (like a Linux flavor, e.g. Knoppix) and access the drive that way, assuming the drive itself isn't dead.
FWIW, my oldest drive in use has 55,573 hours and my second oldest living drive is 36,960. Definitely keep anything important backed up on multiple drives (automate with something like SyncToy).

Seems like not nuch is going on here. So i guess Ill post an update. i bought a new hdd and sata cables. thus made no difference as mobo and bios doesnt recognize any plugged hdd. could this be that my mobo got busted and all six data ports went to hell? it knows the cpu is there as well as gpu hell it found a floppy thats nit connected and doesnt have power... im guessing that faulty capacitors finally had something to say but all ports really? I did reconnect all cables and with both hdd's plugged hdd led lights up the main mobo screen lags a lot (dunno how u call it, its gigabyte s4 series) thes goes to list whats there conected and where and after boot from hdd it gives disk boot failure... im thinking about a new mobo (dont want to wasted psu, gpu, cpu, ram+ this pc would be for torrents/encoding only - too bad my steam badge went to hell T_T)

I assume you are connecting your HDD to the power correctly? That is the only thing that i can come up with that is not the mobo if you swapped out both the HDD and the cable already, but i am also very much not an expert. Does an HDD need some formatting or an OS to be put onto it to enable you to boot from it?

can someone please recommend a way to connect to a home wireless router that is powerful and reliable?
its 2015 and still nomatter what fucking house i live at, my internet drops for a few seconds every time someone walks around the house
lately i'm using a £30+ netgear??? usb network adapter
You can use a £200 adapter and it won't work well if the router doesn't have the range and power. The placement of the router (and obstructions) also matters a lot more than most people would imagine

Smart phone advice needed-- and I don`t know where else to post this.
I`m planning on buying a new one and I`ve pretty much narrowed myself down to the Sony Z5, the HTC One M9, and the LG G4.
Thing is, I`m in Japan, so I need something that I can get unlocked and working under Docomo ("sim free" as they call it over here) AND likely T-Mobile when I move back to the States in a couple years. From what I`ve read about data bands, the M9 and the G4 should work either way so long as the sim cards are provided, but if anyone better versed in smart phones could provide a more in-depth and informed opinion, I`d be greatly appreciative.

Well new motherboard and tinkering in bios seems to have solved the issue no data lost PC works as it should
nvm things sorted out okay

So if im building a new computer with an SSD and no optical drive. How can I get a digital copy of windows OS onto it? Can I download the operating system file and put it on a usb drive?
|
Yes, that's how you do it. You create a USB flash drive on a different computer and then use that USB flash drive to install on your new computer.
You have to google a little for Windows 7 images, while Windows 8 and 10 should have downloads on Microsoft's site.
For what to do with the image file and the USB drive so that it boots, there's guides out there. There's also a small program named "Rufus" to help do this.

I messed up my chat on facebook somehow. Whenever I press space, it just deletes most of what I've already written. I tried pressing ctr + [backspace] but it did not work. Sometimes it shows me like it was written down normally, but when I press enter 80% of the text is missing. Also, when I try to use backspace, it sometimes doesn't even works properly. Like, let's say I want to delete "apple", and even if I start pressing backspace from the end of the word, it ends up like "ape". Then repeat from the end again, but a "p" might still remain.
Driving me crazy and it's only on Facebook and I'm using Win 7. It has to be something I did with [control], [backspace] or both. I usually delete stuff pressing ctr+a+backspace and maybe my hand slipped this one time.

No idea if that helps, but try deleting cookies for facebook?
|
I deleted my browser history of the past week with cookies, but it's the same. However, when I run Chrome in incognito mode, or use FF instead, the chat works perfectly. I'll try to reinstall chrome.

You can take a look at the cookies of a site by clicking on the icon in the location bar. You can delete cookies for just that site there.

Yes, you'd need something like the products here.
Couldn't tell you which one because I have no idea if any of them are good - I keep my desktop wired. Your motherboard has onboard LAN but not wireless.

What are some important things to look for when buying a wireless pci card for a new computer? Like does b/g/n matter? Also what about the data rates like 150mb/sec, 300mb/sec, 500mb/sec. How do these factors affect starcraft & streaming movies & first person shooters?
|
I assume that there is a reason you can't use a cable? Because that tends to be greatly superior when gaming.
