Hey guys

So my computer keeps freezing occasionally and I am thinking about reformatting my SSD. I was just wondering if there's any different procedure to take as opposed to reformatting a regular HDD.

i5-2500k
ASRock Z77 Pro4-m
HD 4850
8 GB DDR3
Corsair CX600
120 GB Agility 3 SSD
Windows 7

Edit: Nevermind.. found a guide on how to secure erase SSD.
You only live twice.

a regular format should be fine, there's no reason perform an erase if you're just having OS issues.

I'm using my laptop and it has both Intel Graphics HD4000 and GT 640M. The problem I'm having recently is that my FPS does not go over 30 on SC2. It just stays stagnant. I'm not sure if the Nvidia Optimus is responsible for this, but I've tried tinkering with it to use the 640M specifically for SC2, using 640M as a global setting, and using auto-select. Alas it is capped. I am not using vertical sync either on SC2.

i have a razer maruder keyboard and a naga mouse i use for sc2 and just one game in and i can't figure out what was causing a bunch of misclicks and not only that but i could not use the hotkeys on my naga and something started flipping out and idk what is causing it. do i need to update the drivers or do i need to call razer to figure out the issue and not only that but everytime i would type something in google it would space the word out and jump all over the place and my mouse would move on it's own and i would never be touching it and just clicking on things every time i try to stop acting up.

Is it possible to enhance cooling of a laptop? I already have a cooling pad, but I'm wondering if a stronger fan replacement is possible.

For SC2 gaming? The 3570 will get roughly ~5-10% better frame rates thanks to its higher clock. So in a big battle, you might be looking at something like ~38 FPS vs ~40-41 FPS

It's okay but not great. Typical prebuilt:
- 1yr warranty
- probably decent but very small PSU, hardly allowing for much of a video card upgrade (not required for SC2 though, the A10 5700's integrated is good enough for medium settings even up to 1920x1080 I believe)

I quickly put together some parts: this is a faster system (in CPU and especially in Video Card performance) with high quality parts (especially PSU) with longer warranties. I skipped bluetooth and card reader though, they are easily added.

No, it's actually getting close to as bad as you could do with modern processors. That's not meant to be insulting, it is actually quite literally true. I suggest visiting the Computer Build Resource Thread, reading at least a little of the OP, and asking for advice here, as further help is outside the 'simple answer' level of response.

I'm about to build a new PC, currently looking at video cards but I'm not sure which one of these are the better purchase.

prices in cdn:

ASUS GeForce GTX560 Ti 448CORE - $255, + $20 mail in rebate
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD Fermi - $265
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Fermi - $255

all opinions and other suggestions would be helpfull, also what are your thoughts on ASRock motherboards.

I have an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard, Intel core i7 3770k processor, and an EVGA GeForce Gtx 560 graphics card.

I am able to run 2 monitors off of my gtx 560, I want to run 3 on my PC with the 3rd monitor being a TV, however, when i plug my tv into an hdmi it doesn't work unless i take out one of the monitors. I was wondering if there was a way I could run integrated graphics on one of my monitors and use my gtx 560 for the tv and another monitor. Would I have to change something in Bios ?

Right, Nvidia prior to 600 series does not support more than 2 displays per GPU.

You should be able to use the integrated graphics, but I'm not sure what the setup is. I think you just need to find a setting in the BIOS to make sure the integrated graphics is turned on. Let us know how it goes and what's required.

Battlefield 3 large multiplayer maps, the Total War series of games... um... I'm sure there's others, but they're not coming to mind immediately.

I'm looking to add a little SSD zip to my laptop. I've got some options, but I'm honestly not experienced with a few of them and wanted to ask around before I make a decision. Its more of a series of questions, so I apologize for the long read.

A little background: I have a Lenovo E430. It will only accomodate 1 drive unless I remove the optical drive and replace it with an HDD caddy. I have an usb external blu ray R/W drive that is paired with the laptop, so the loss of the optical drive would not be the end of the world. I also have a Samsung 830 (128GB) drive that is currently unused. I was going to put it in my desktop since its SSD is almost full, but I wouldn't mind using it for the laptop instead. The laptop also is able to accomdate an msata ssd.

mSATA: I've never used one of these. They seem a bit more expensive than regular ssd drives, but certainly not too much to be out of the question. My question would be how they perform, to my knowledge they just act as a cache drive. Are they worthwhile, or should I just be looking at adding a regular SSD drive? Also with it being a cache, what sort of size would I even need to get?

Replace the HDD with an SSD: The problem here is the 128 GB drive is a little on the small side. I could get an external HDD to offset this, of note there is usb 3.0 ports available. I've actually not used an external HDD before, and I was wondering if they are quick enough to play games off of. The other option would be to buy a new larger SSD, while not impossible - I'd rather not spend that much.

HDD Caddy: As I said earlier the loss of the optical drive would not be the end of the world. The issue here is no one seems to make an HDD caddy specifically for this laptop. However, I've heard some anecdotes about the one newmodeus makes here fits in the e430. My qualms here is its a bit expensive for an HDD caddy, and I've never heard of them previously. Anyone got any prior experience/opinions with these guys?

Edit: I'm probably leaning towards the SSD + external HDD right now, so if anyone had an insight on just that that would be good.
