My PC has been experiencing issues at start-up since this morning, and those issues have gotten gradually worse. Step 1: upon waking up, I started my PC, open a couple tabs in the internet browser and went for breakfast. When I came back, the PC has mysteriously shut down. No matter, I was able to restart it and everything looked fine. Step 2 : later on, I had a game running when the PC suddenly shut down. I try to reboot a couple times, but to no avail : the CPU and the case's fans won't start up. The only signs of activity are the video card's fan and the HDD access sounds. I took a look around but everything looks like it's plugged in where it's supposed to be. I give it a few more tries, and get it to boot at least once (and all fans activate correctly), but it shuts down once again without any prompting. Step 3 : nothing happens at all. Not even the power unit's LED lights up. I weep softly in the dark. I suppose it sounds like a problem with the power unit ? If so, is there anything I can try to remedy it ? Specs: ASUS P8Z68-V LX I7 2600k Palit GTX580 Corsair GS700 Any help is appreciated.

Though I had to do this three times over the course of five days. Ever since my computer has been fine. So what I'm saying is you can try that out for starters if you know how to unplug and rep lug all of your PSU cables. That certainly is a tough problem to diagnose.

Weirdly, it now bugs me about activation anytime I boot though, not sure if it's connected or a complete coincidence.

I'm looking to build/buy a new computer for <$1000 CAD. I found this one on new egg for $950 CAD. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229331 Does anyone have an estimate for how much it would cost if I tried to build something similar myself? Thanks

Thanks ~800$ ish, but then you would get a quality PSU (not sure of their brand/models), the case is surprisingly not bad. In addition, your computer would be more optimized. (the gpu in that computer is on the low end of medium cards) which is not good if you wanna play most new games other than sc2/d3. Also, if you can get windows 7 for free (from school for example), then you would be able to cut 100$. Edit: forgot to mention that you wouldnt get this: "Warranty Limited Warranty period (parts): 1 year Limited Warranty period (labor): 1 year" most of your parts would have 3 years.

So if I got windows from school, then it would cost $700. I don't really know too much about computers, can you explain what the gpu/psu is imporant for? DERP, I just googled it. and figured it out. lol. Thanks for your help.

Will performance with a Q9550 processor and a 512 MB Radeon HD4870 be reasonable?

It'd run fine on low settings I think based off the little information you give, but honestly you should just build a computer yourself. You'll get warranty for every piece you buy, you'll have new products installed, and it should be cheaper to build, and be stronger than buying prebuilt PCs.

I have a laptop that I like a lot and will still be using for everything other than SC2. So I'm on the cheap here. But really, low only? I got SC2 to run half decently on an old iMac with core duo and Radeon X1600, running OS X. Passmark says this processor is four times the spead of that of that iMac, and the graphics card more than six times as fast.

Quite possibly, but maybe some others who are more immersed into the tech field can give a more accurate answer. Although if you're buying that PC for SC2 only the Q9550 processor isn't needed. SC2 only utilizes two cores not four. And building a budget gaming PC isn't as expensive as you think it is. You can get off on $300 pretty fairly playing SC2. However I'm not sure how much your "cheap PC" is in the first place.

Secondly, I also am wondering if I would be able to fit a push-pull H100 in my HAF XM with an ASUS P8Z77-V Pro Motherboard. Thanks!

So far, the only place I know that has a 30 day return policy where you can actually use the item (newegg only takes it back if you don't use it, or don't open the box, sometthing like that), is Best Buy But Best Buy (an american electronics chain that sells like xboxes, tvs, cds, phones, stuff like that, huge store, but it isn't really specialized so you wont find any CPUs there, and a very, very small selection of certain PC parts, like GPUs) sells GPUs for very, very expensive, I'd be looking at like over $200 for a 550 or over $100 for something like a 430. Which is fine. Whatever, if it comes down to that, it's fine, I'm returning it and getting the money back anyways. It just is still just overpriced for bad performance basically. So I was wondering if any of you knew of any place, online or in real life, that I could buy a GPU, actually use it, and be able to return in, say, about 30 days, no problem. I imagine whatever place I buy from, my choices will be limited, so I'll probably be looking at something like a 430. I play on 1360x768 resolution.

Overclocking to ~4.4/4.5: very good 720p stream or meh 1080p. Of course this is assuming you have good upload in the 5+ mbit range. If your upload is smaller, stream quality will suffer as a result, under 1mbit and you'd want to drop to 480p. Sc2 will run on ultra fine with that hardware of course.

My upload speed should be sufficient, it is around 4-5. Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply It won't make you stream better, it will mean your ingame fps will be better whilst streaming.
