This is a very specific keyboard thread so please do not refer me to the other 10 covering keyboards similar to filco.
Hi TL,
I'm looking to get a tenkeyless keyboard with brown switches like the filco majestouch tenkeyless, and am not too sure about how safe the foreign sites are, and where to get the best deals!
Now I've read alot obout the Leopold something tenkeyless, but I'm willing to spend some extra cash to get the filco with good reviews and solid quality that I know will last a long time.
Here are the sites so far that I have found that sells the filco majestouch tenkeyless with brown switches. If you know of any other, please please please send me a PM or leave a comment below!

http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=624
One more thing to add, would you trust ebay for buying a mechanical keyboard? or are there too many fakes out there? Thanks.
Also, I will keep updating the OP to include good links to respectable sites for buying keyboards.
Edit:
http://eng.j-goods.net/index.html is a site where you place an order, get an estimate and decide whether or not to buy it. Thanks to skyR for giving this option. He says it was roughly 140 bucks Canadian.

i think you can trust the buyer if they have a good rater
but to me buying a used keyboard seems a little disgusting to me lol.
i'm pretty sure those are the only places to buy them
amazon is probably the best play. I doubt you'll be able to find a price lower than 130

I bought a filco majestouch with brown switches from Amazon last week for my birthday. I ordered the keyboard on Sunday Night around 9PM PST, and I received my Keyboard Tuesday at about 3pm. Perfect condition, good packaging etc.
Keyboardco through Amazon was a dream to order from and I'd fully recommend them. I plan on buying a tenkeyless blue switch from them in a bit just to be a greedy nerd and have both of my favorite switches. ;P

Keyboards can get quite dirty. I would highly recommend a fresh one.

Here is a little review on the leopold: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=13258
I got my filco last year from elitekeyboards and I am very happy with it. They no longer carry filcos but the leopold is on par with them and better in someways. The leopold has a very big following from what i've heard.

I bought my filco majestouch with blues on ebay from a 100% feedback seller, he sent me a copy of his receipt when I bought it, was a smooth transaction. to be honest I've never heard of a fake filco, but if you want to be sure you can buy in confidence from elitekeyboards, and I can personally vouch for keyboardco as I've bought from them in the past.
EDIT: I should mention I got the keyboard for almost half price, and it arrived with a little dust but nothing a good thorough clean could handle.

I have a filco tenkeyless otaku w/ browns. Got from elitekeyboards who unfortunately doesn't sell them anymore (but I'd take a leopold instead np.. removeable cable ftw)

"Just got mine yesterday..." he typed as the keyboard made the sweet sounds quick quiet clacking. "...and I love it!" he then exclaimed.

I got mine from Amazon about a month and a half ago. No problems with anything regarding shipping or the keyboard itself.
It seems difficult to find a good deal on these keyboards, honestly. Most likely, you'll have to pay upwards of $135.

oops I spelled the title of the whole thread wrong....sorry it was late last night when I put this together. If a mod could change this that would be great thanks.

I can guarantee that keyboardco is reliable. I got my Majestouch 104key Brown from them.
|
I think keyboardco is pretty reputable. I emailed them with an inquiry and they were helpful and got back to me very quickly. I didn't end up buying the Filco from them. Went for a Ducky instead but I don't think you can go wrong with a Filco.

I ordered that keyboard on April 4th, 2011 via amazon (that same exact link) and should be arriving sometime around tomorrow. I'll update you once it arrives. Generally, amazon is pretty reliable.

The elitekeyboards.com owner(?) posted his comparison of Filco and Leopold here:
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?p=295883#post295883
Obviously take that for what it is.
I got my Leopold with browns yesterday and I love it. I have never used a Filco and I have no brand loyalty, I was just looking for a top of the line tenkeyless mechanical with brown switches. Based on my experience I'd recommend the Leopold to anyone and I don't know what an extra $40 gets you besides a well known brand name.
From the link:
They're both made-in-TW mechanicals that are designed by the same designer (who doesn't work for either company). The FILCO design was originally intended to be minimalistic and sturdy and the Leopold design follows the same vein, but Leopold adds the detachable cable and takes some queues from Realforce boards by adding cable channels on the underside of the board and 2-angle feet with softer rubber in the front for better traction.
|
The leopold is basically identical to the filco except for the caps lock, scroll lock keys on the keycaps themselves, more rubber things on the bottom for stabilizing, slightly different look, slightly thicker and laser engraved keycaps, and detachable USB. Other than that they're the same in terms of build quality and stability, don't let the amount of filco users on here convince you otherwise. On top of that, if you're in the us it'll be about 30 dollars cheaper due to shipping. Don't let the brand names fool you, in terms of feel and quality they're basically the same (hey use the same switches as well), and due to the us shipping and elitekeyboards introductory price they're cheaper.

I ordered a filco majestouch brown from keyboardcouk through Amazon last month. Best $120 I've spent in a while. Also, Amazon actually had the keyboards in their warehouse already so I received it in a day through Amazon Prime.
Edit: If I were to order one again at this moment, I'd probably go with the Leopold due to the fact that it has a detachable USB cable since they're virtually the same thing. Also, I believe I read somewhere that the keys on the Leopold are laser engraved. Either way, a keyboard with brown cherry switches is going to feel the nearly identical.

Thanks for the reply's and I'm going to end up going with the Leopold Tenkeyless from Elitekeyboards. If only they were in stock haha. I sent an email and will put up a pre order soon.
