Does anybody what exactly the Video Encoding "Preset" changes? Should you leave it at default?

edit: Also wondering if I can improve my 720p stream quality in any way.

Here is an example: http://www.twitch.tv/sidelancer/b/295111832

I'm using 1800 kbps and quality of 10. Does the video look good for 720p or can I improve it?

Thank you.

There's an excellent post on the XSplit forums about it. Rather than I repeating its contents, here is the link: http://www.xsplit.com/blog.php?post_id=267

Your settings are IMHO reasonable for a 720p (but you don't tell us anything about your setup/internet!).

The preset setting however is entirely depending on your CPU (which you neglected to tell us about ). The setting "Default" is equivalent to "veryfast". Anything slower will require alot more CPU (see the link) but provide better quality.

Holy s*** Batman, I want your internet :D

I have the same CPU and desktop resolution, and I need to reduce the desktop to maximum 1440x900 to stream a 720p at stock CPU frequency, otherwise I suffer below 30 FPS ingame. If you can OC safely, I'd highly recommend it.

Then you will be able to do a fine 720p stream with no problems.
You should be able to do a 1080p (CPU will be loaded though)

My suggestions for settings: fps=30, quality=10, preset=default, bitrate: 1600 kbps for 720p, 4000 kbps for 1080p. Make sure to use "main origin cluster" for "location", and set Audio to: 44.1 KHz/16 bit Stereo with a bitrate of 128.000.

Haha yea the internet here is insane.

So I tried those settings but, when I go twitch.tv I can't select what resolution to view my broadcast in. Also, I feel like I'm doing something wrong. It feels a little choppy when I'm in game. Do I need to set it to windowed mode or something?

Thanks

a) Only JTV partners have the option to select resolution in the player (as far as I know)
b) That's "normal". There will be a little lag input when streaming. You must set it to "Windowed Mode", because "Fullscreen" is not supported by XSplit as of yet (it will blink occasionally if you try). The better hardware and internet you have, the less lag you will feel. Also, check your FPS to monitor that you have 30+ while playing, otherwise you probably need to lower the resolution.

Yeah I did read that post but didn't really understand what exactly they meant . I tried setting it to medium with the same upload, but didn't see any change in my stream, which is why I was confused.

My setup is:

12 GB DDR3 memory
Phenom X6 1090T 3.2 GHz CPU
Geforce 460 GTX card
25 Mbps download/2.4 upload

streaming 720p at 24 FPS and 10 quality.

streaming 720p at 24 FPS and 10 quality.

The changes are subtle, especially at lower-ish resolutions like 720p. But look at your cpu usage - there is the big difference
Any reason why you stream at 24FPS with that rig? Doesn't your ingame FPS suffer from this? I mean, XSplit sort of dictates the ingame FPS via the stream FPS setting.

Nope, ingame FPS is totally fine, its around 30-50 FPS. I thought 24 is the lowest FPS that still looks ok, but I suppose I could try increasing it to 30. I was just thinking that the quality of my stream wasn't as good as some other 720p streams I've seen.

hey how come I lag in game when I stream when I change to medium graphic quality on SC2? I sitll have 50+ fps. I have 100+fps when playing and streaming in low graphic quality. Also, why does your fps drop when you start streaming? because I have 200+fps when i'm not streaming.

Impossible to speculate on the first part without more information from you. For the latter, streaming is CPU heavy, and the drop is also due to the way screen capture works.

Also, I believe I kinda answered you already in your threads:

Yes, stream in the same aspect ratio as you play in.
You're streaming in 4 : 3 and playing in 16 : 9.

Could you please post a link to a VOD, so I'm absolute sure what you mean
Second, read my advice: "stream in the same aspect ratio as you play in".
Why are you streaming in 1280x720 (16 : 9) and playing in 4 : 3? You should be streaming in 960x720 or 1024x768.

Hello there! I just started toying around with xsplit + jtv and everything works fine except my (as in me speaking) sound, as you'll notice if you watch a little of this saved vid:

http://sv.twitch.tv/maxie468eu/b/295776208

Not certain if it's just my microphone, but if there's any tips or advice regarding getting decent sound I'd highly appreciate it!

First, make sure the mic works in any other app, ie. Skype.
Second, make sure you've set your mic up in "Settings - General - Audio"
Also make sure that the volume is not muted (see picture)

If it still doesn't work, you should go to the XSplit forums and have a look - I remember seeing some mic-related issues there - might be a bug.

I just watched the vod - thank you. It confirms what I said above. Just stream in ie. 960x720 or 1024x768.

I have Computer specs
I play in 1920x1080
i7 960 - (3.2)
Gtx 460 2 gb ram (on card)
12 gb ddr3 ram
30mb down / 5mb up
Should my starcraft 2 settings matter? I can play on ultra no problem, but streaming is not good. It is choppy as hell, and the quality is terrible, I have messed with numerous settings as well.

I cannot for the life of me get a stream thats watchable, I have read through the thread and cannot figure it out, I would greatly appreciate any help I can get on this topic!

Thank you so much guys.
