No idea whats going on. Yeah I find it weird. I'm pretty sure I've got more screen real estate than him (2 x 24", both 16:10) and I'm doing fine on about 1.2k CPI. Yeah, I agree. I'm fine on 1K CPI for 3 monitors, a 19", 20", and 23".
Yea im fine @450dpi on dual screen (3200x1080) and can use 0.5 multiplier from on-the-fly sens pretty comfortably at that... no idea where the whine about only having like 2k dpi comes from

I can move edge to edge of 3200x1080 @450dpi without lifting my wrist off the desk... its not exactly super low, especially if you try as low sens as possible for FPS play

Your wrist is still not a standard of measurement!
Number! We need real numbers!

Number! We need real numbers! Not really. To me it is more of a "Is it comfortable? If yes, leave it. If no, fix it, then repeat first question until satisfied."
I used to use 1700DPI solely because I thought 1000 was too low, but when I started using my G1 (So I have a choice of 1000DPI or using a different mouse) I realized I have way better control with 1000DPI. It seemed counter-intuitive being that I use three monitors but it totally works and I like it better than my old setup.

Yeah we tend to agree in general, but the original point of debate was due to someone either having mouse issues or drastically over-exaggerating the movement required.
Lowest setting I actually have on my mouse takes ~3-" to cross 1080p. 700DPI.
I tend to use 1k for day to day use and Killing Floor, 700 for BF3 and D3 beta, 1k for MMOs and SC2, 2k for Skyrim unless I'm lockpicking, at which point I drop to 350 w/ precision aim. All with profiles, of course, to avoid messing with other types of settings and hurting precision.

If your DPI is set to 1080 it should take exactly one inch to move from the right side of the screen to the left side of the screen when mousing around 1080p monitor.
For anybody, with any mouse, with any monitor, any mousing surface, any sensor, anything. 6/11 of course.
So if someone comes along and says there 3600 DPI mouse cant track across there 900p screen with 1.5 inches of physical movement. That sets off red flags for me.
Because we have a bad mousepad, bad sensor, bad settings. Something is just downright bad.
While DPI is not a benchmark, it IS a standard. Dots (lawl) Per Inch.

I just wanted to post some recent experiences with mice.
I am not an amazing player and I recognize that "mouse =/= skill", etc...
But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy futzing with hardware, now does it?
For about 10 years now, the Intellimouse Optical has been my trusty standby. As I started getting into competitive games, I thought I'd try out a "gaming mouse".
My company had a G400 lying around so I tried that. HAAATED it. I didn't like the feel and the line correction thing made me crazy. So I started researching. Apparently the Intellimouse optical is (or at least was) a pretty popular mouse for games. It has a fixed DPI of 400 though, so the only way to scale it with larger resolutions is the mess with the windows sensitivity setting, which (as I learned) is kinda shoddy.
I also discovered that the MIO it not being manufactured anymore! :O So I set out to find its spiritual successor. Signs pointed toward the Steelseries Kana (especially with it being called "mouse 1.1" and the MIO latest revision being "1.1a"). So I ordered one. The Sensei also looked crazy. Seemed like it was way overkill, but I thought I'd try it anyway. So I got one of those as well.
The Sensei arrived first. It fit my hand very nicely and the configuration options and abilities are very nice (on-mouse control is really cool). There are 2 side button on BOTH sides. The MIO only has 1 on each. So I do occasionally clip one with my pinky because the button layout is just a little different than I am used to. Overall, I really like it and I have been firing up games just to get to use it. I have been experimenting with different DPIs (after having lived at 400 and just moving my arm a lot). Depending on my mood, I like it anywhere from 600 to 1200. Not super fast for a pro, but I am no pro.
The Kana arrived next. The button layout is a lot more like the MIO and that was comforting, but it's actually a bit smaller and felt funny in my hand. It has this glossy plastic finish that feels really awkward to me and the button feels just a touch funny. The wheel is very nice (once I updated the firmware to make down go DOWN). However. The biggest problem I had was that the DPI is only adjustable in huge leaps (powers of 2 to be specific): 400,800,1600 and 3200. While having adjustable DPI in increments of 1 is kind of ridiculous ( no no, really. I play best as 1673 ), I think that a gap of 800 is way too much.
I am going to get the White-Ra Mouse when it comes out because... I am a huge dork and love White-Ra. But for now, I legitimately do like the Sensei, even with it's ridiculous price tag and overabundance of silly features.
Edit: Oh. My resolution is 1920x1200

Yes DPI is pretty much the only way to adjust sensitivity but after 14 years of pro players saying this the industry has been incredibly slow to actually adopt this standpoint.
Its to be expected since it took microsoft about 10 years to fix an error that any beginning Comp Sci major makes and takes about a coffee break to fix.
Its just because mousing around is a "feel" thing and people get all wishy washy spiritual about it.

I just purchased another abyssus, I had the mirror but didn't care much for the glossy shell and mine had problems with jitter. So far my new abyssus (LoL edition) is working great with no signs of jitter, but I've only owned it for a week. I decided to change the LED to green and swaped the microswitches out for Omron D2F-01Fs. In the last couple of months I've switched from so many mice, which each having some sort of flaw. Hopefully I don't run into any problems and the abyssus sits on my desk for awhile.
Sorry for the bad picture, only had access to my phone at the momment.

Edit: Oh. My resolution is 1920x1200 The Kana has extremely extremely bad jitters at anything above 1.6k dpi, and the switches feel funny because they're cheap TTC branded switches instead of the standard Omron branded switches in most mice. White-Ra mice seems very promising, but for now I feel the best mice below to Razer.

Wat?
No my wording was intentional.
1080 DPI mouse takes one inch to travel across a 1080p screen.

You said side to side, not top to bottom. He's right, buddy. 1920x1080. 1080 is the smaller dimension, in this case, vertical axis, not horizontal.
I do this at least every third time I'm talking about the same thing.

Oh right yeah derp I actually meant up and down, the 1080 part was intentional.
Serves me right for trying to be fancy.

damn man! you're good at modding mice!!, how did you swtich the microswitches though? and btw how long have you been using the mouse, since at first the clicks on the mouse seem bizarre, but after using them for a bit they feel amazing, trust me i have the mouse, but damn, nice job on those switches

I've only had the abyssus for 4 days, but had a abyssus mirror edition for a long time. I wanted to purchase a new mouse since my G100 was almost perfect for me except for the sensor issues, so I decieded to go back get an abyssus and make a small project out of modding it for some more practice.
I switched the microswitches using a desoldering iron to remove the old ones, and a regular soldering iron/solder to put in the new ones. I don't mind the orginal abyssus switches (Omron d2fc-f-7n), but can tell a slight difference between them and the more expensive Omron D2F-01F switches. I really only switched them because I had some extra micro switches around when I used them for modding some other mice.

I guess it depends on which mouse there in along with the design of the shell, but I prefer the D2F-01F over the D2FC-F-7N switches in the two out of three mice I put them in. They feel a little bit softer and easier to click. I think they are both relatively close in feel, but I did notice a difference right after I swapped the switches.
Having had a Abyssus mirror that I used for a long time, the D2F-01F's feel like a slight imrovement to the mouse; and I've had no issues using the D2FC-F-7N's (loved them in my Sensei,G100). I will say that the G100 did feel a little too light with the 01F's but the Abyssus feels perfect.
