I am seeking out for help, I am truly mad at my DELL laptop right now.
Here is the deal:
My F1-F12 keys, work when I hold the FN key.
Meaning If i tap de f1-f12 keys without pressing the FNkey I can double my screen, turn up volume and other stuff.
I CANNOT PLAY like this! I like saving screens! and using the f1 idle worker stuff!
Its also going to be an issue for diablo.
Anyone knows how can I remap the key? or just invert the usage? From what i´ve heard the FN key is a mere hardware key meaning I cannot remap it on windows? So I am just severely confused on how to do this. or if it is even possible...
Sorry for the exagerated title
edit. I use windows 7

Dont use your laptop keyboard. It is bad anyways imo, flat keys and you gotta reach above the laptop body which can be annoying depending on the size of your laptop.
Have you considered popping out the function key? Wouldnt CTRL work? Because you can remap your hotkey stuff, there is a thread somewhere.

You should check out your BIOS; there's generally an option to set F1-F12 as default instead of having you to use your FN key.
|
too bad the fn key is preventing you to use the f keys efficiently. I know that macbooks, unlike dell, has bootcamp software to disable the fn keys... dont know about dell through :/
maybe u should buy a separate keyboard for sc2 needs?

Popping out the Fn key wouldn't help, it sounds like somehow it inverted its function...
When he ISN'T pressing it, the volume turns up, dual display toggle, etc.
When he IS pushing it down, F1-F9 work like they are supposed to when NOT holding the Fn key down.
Is there like...a toggle on your keyboard or something? Never heard of this happening. O_O
Edit: @above - beat me to the googlage. Good to know!

there should be a bios setting to fix this problem. A friend of mine used to have an HP computer with the same issues, holding f8 when you start your computer will divert you into bios, whereby you can change settings around. There should be something in there about fn keys.
|
Click start, type in 'Mobility' and open Windows Mobility Center. There should be an option there to change the function key behaviour. I had to do this as well...stupid dell laptops.
|
dont have any of the keys they mention on the article or num/scroll lock, :S maybe im stupid and dont see it?
Going to bios? never done it, dont wanna mess anything up.
Ive tried looking out for software todo this but cant find anything?

get a cheap keyboard it will improve ur play beyond just this

Note the first checkmarked box. This option allows me to use the F keys as normal, and adjust volume, brightness, etc. by using the Fn key in conjunction with the F keys. Granted, this is on a Mac computer, but I refuse to believe that a similar function does not exist in the Control Panel for Windows machines.

afaik and as it has been mentioned before in dell laptops you can set F# keys as default in the BIOS menu.
|
Have you REALLY not considered buying a keyboard and plugging it into your laptop when you play? The terrible laptop keyboard is probably what's really holding you back...
|
take a tape, permanently hold the FN key while u play..find a way to constantly put pressure on the fn key so u dont have to hold it everytime

2k points is the new 1k points

really? i boght ans ASUS laptop and i have to press FN in order to change volume and stuff. Maybe you pressed some toggle key.
Consider a cheap USB keyboard(Refurbished would be even cheaper). Thats what i use on my laptop. Especially like the fact that cheap keyboards are pretty loud. Which is really comfortable for me.
EDIT:
BAM $6.99 USD
