Playing in Korean server from australia?

I am currently living in Australia, Sydney and am planning to buy a korean sc2. This means that i would be abled to play in the korean server. However, I have heard of lag issues of players trying to play in the korean server from other countries, but they weren't from Aus. My internet is ADSL 2 and the internet company is TPG, 200gb monthly usage quota with a shaping speed of 1Mbps/1Mbps and i use wireless. So if i were to play sc2 in korean server in aus with my internet, would there be lag? If so, how bad would the lag be?

I honestly think it's going to vary from person to person. I play on the Korean servers from Minnesota with barely any lag at all.

I have heard getting a Korean sc2 isn't as easy as it sounds. I'm not sure about lag but it works pretty well on US servers from here.

Don't you need a Korean security ID to play?

There were a few Aussie Korean guys who posted here that they played on Korean servers. I can't imagine the lag would be worse than SEA.

I know GLaDe and Pinder both from Australia have korean accounts so I guess it should be fine.

You need to have a Korean ID No. to register (given to if you live in Korea). Otherwise you won't be able to buy a copy / use it

South Korea is at least geographically closer to Australia than the US, with a direct optical connection to Japan there shouldn't be too much additional lag.

I forgot to mention but i use the NETGEAR WG111v2 54Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter #3. However, when i check my wireless network connection status, the speed is usually drops lower than 54Mbps, at around 5.5Mbps~32Mbps randomly changing every few seconds and i don't think thats normal and i hardly ever see it up on 54Mbps these days.

Just so you know, when i say 54Mbps and 5.5Mbps~32Mbps, i am refering to the speed indicated in the wireless network connection status, which is not the same as the internet speed. With my level of internet, i should be abled to play dota on battlenet easily, but i get kicked out sometimes (the game host bot usually kicks people with bad ping).

I had a thought that maybe there was a problem with the wireless usb adapter or that this was just natural and that i'm just overreacting. And would i be abled to play in the korean server for sc2 under these circumstances?

From Australia for me, Korean server latency is fine. Not quite as good as NA but better than SEA.

Except at peak hours on friday & weekends. Then it can become quite laggy.

Dload a korean version then gimme a PM, i'll let you log onto my account and try it out for a day.

I know playing from Korea to US is fine. I don't see how playing from Australia to Korea should be that bad latency wise.

Depends. Aus is placed on the asia server so theoretically shouldn't lag too much, except in some few random cases.

Though some connections are routed through the USA and depending on your ISP it may actually lag more, than say the US server, but you aussies have the ability to choose regions between asia and NA, so you can always switch regions!

You can get a taiwanese account following these instructions (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=243084), which is basically the same as a kr account now since their ladders have merged.

You can test the latency using CMD. Personally I have found that the Korean server is 50 ms (200ms ping time) faster than to the US (250 ms).

Open up CMD (command prompt)

type without the inverted commmas "tracert kr.logon.battle.net"

The last 3 packets sent are going to be fairly indicative of your latency whilst playing on the KR server.

korea and taiwan are now on the same part.

and to get a taiwan account is not so difficult.

but for me (from eu) the lag is to hart to play from eu to taiwan/korea , sea is just ok !
