To all the people that think this should be part of the connection issues thread: This is not a connection issue. Our connections are fine. If two people are in the same house, one might get this issue and another won't. If they switch computers, the problem switches with them.

This is a thread specifically for this error message when you try to log in:
There is a temporary outage of the battle.net service. Please try again later.
I will update this thread according to what we find out.
What we know: - Password reset doesn't fix it. - It's account specific.
What may be wrong: - Some people have US games registered under EU accounts or vice versa.
What tech support have said: - Where is your god now? - Fix should be coming in a week (or two).
Temporary Fixes: - Create a new account and use your guest passes to play. (confirmed)
Permanent Fixes: (from post #7 on a US Battle.net forum thread) - Ask Blizzard to transfer your games to another account that you create (that matches your game region). (confirmed) - Ask Blizzard to change your account location to US (or whatever matches your game's region). (unconfirmed) Both the above solutions can be done over the phone in a few hours (of being on hold). Phoning them is faster than sending a tech support ticket.
I've submitted a very detailed tech support request. My account was created in NA, SCII was bought in NA and registered in NA; so I don't think I have the EU issue.
|
It's a mistake on Blizzard's end. Even if you registered a NA account there is apparently a chance that it will still end up as EU. Also, the other thread was originally created for this error specifically, the mods explicitly made it a general connection issues thread.
|
but I believe the mods were unaware of how big of an issue this is. There are so many people that have this specific problem.
I think they assumed it was only a small problem and that it should be merged with all the other connection issues to avoid a large number of threads.
After reading your thread though, I was kind of confused because I wasn't sure which responses were related to what questions.

It would appear that this common problem would get more attention if more people posted! If it's just us 4 experiencing this then fine, but jesus. I wanna pray starcrafts.
|
I'm having this problem too.
I was able to play using one of my guest passes on a seperate Battle.net account, which agrees with your assessment that the problem is account specific. Hopefully this problem gets fixed ASAP. I've had the game for over 24 hours and I can't even log on to the great Battle.net 2.0 yet...
|
I am also having this problem.
Pretty sure its because of a discrepancy between my account region and the fact I bought the NA version of the game. Encountered the same exact problem during beta, where technical support basically did a temporary workaround that apparently did not solve the underlying problem.
I sent a tech support request but they are probably backlogged with similar requests, so I'm not really expecting a prompt reply.
Overall very displeased with the digital execution of Blizzard - first by delaying it for a while then this issue (which is impacting a large amount of people). That said, was lucky enough to play it on a friends account (which signed in perfectly), and the fact we could download before purchasing is a cool trick.
|
I called about this again and was told to try the password reset. Apparently, Blizzard Support still thinks that's a fix for it. I intend to call them a few hundred times tomorrow until I find someone who can actually resolve this. The obvious quick remedy for this is to create a new account and have them transfer all your games to the new account, but the two people I've spoken to had no power over EU accounts (which is apparently what I have).
|
I have started a thread at Gametrailers. I don't know if it's been buried by now, but I started it soon after midnight launch. I too experience the temporary outage message and cannot play the game I fucking paid for.

I do suffer from this issue, my bnet account is registered as EU even tough all my games beside WOW are US. Seems to me that the day the merged WOW account to Bnet account they just took in consideration your WOW region and not your adress.
So bought a 100$ collector edition and cant play it, lucky for me my gf lets me play her version which works fine by the way, She didnt took any chances and made a new bnet us account.
My problem is that if they didnt wanted us to play US SC with EU Bnet accounts, they should never have let us enter the CD key to our accounts to begin with. I mean whats the point to having a US SC2 in my accoutn page if they will never let me play it?
Call tech support who told me to phone to EU, something i cannot do so i had to resolve sending them a mail, and asking them to switch my CDkey to EU which dosent solve my problem, i want to play on US mwith my friends not EU.
The guy then told me , i could say sorry all day but that wouldnt change anything. Thats just great.
Oh and this password thing dosent work, tried it 5 times over since yesterday and i tried changin my region options and stuff but nothing works. Thats what happens when you try to restrict access to certain regions...
|
I'm getting this error message as well. There was one time during the beta during which I couldn't play when most others could, and the problem then was supposedly that my account is EU but I play on US. Since this problem has occurred before (during beta... which is when Blizzard is supposed to fix this sort of thing, right?), I'm pretty annoyed.

Any new information on this yet?
I've had this issue since i bought the game yesterday morning, "Temporary Outage of the Battle.net service". I called customer support and she told me my account was linked with a EU account and that they were "working on the issue 24/7".
Seems a little ridiculous buying a 60 dollar game only to not be able to use any of its features. I can't even play the single player. Is this like a goddamn joke?
I've heard it could take up to a week to solve this issue. It doesn't sound to me like this is a very high priority for them considering the small amount of people with this problem compared to the large amount of people playing the game.
Seriously, I just wanna go into space and kill some shit. Is that too much to ask?

I want to poop on my retail copy of SC2.
Hey I thought about this SC2 strategy; buy a digital copy of SC2 and then refund it after 29 days.
Thoughts anyone?
|
3rd day without starcraft , its fun goin to work knewing when u come back nothing gona change..
|
So I paid $60 for this game which I can't play because I can't connect to their online service because of a glitch in their system. I can't even play single player because of this. However, I could play single player if I downloaded a crack. So the ONLY WAY for me to play this $60 game I bought legitimately is to use the crack because they require online login (even for single player).
What was the point of requiring people to log in for single player again? Anti-piracy...?
|
Just got the game and this shit happens. Ugh. Any idea when they will correct the problem? -_-
|
Just wanted to chime in and say that I too am experiencing this problem.
Bought SCII in NA (amazon.com), registered with NA account
|
I too also got the same problem. Had the game for 24 hours now.Email them twice but no response. Im making use of the 2 free trials they gave. LOL maybe thats why they included them in the box

That's what I'm doing. Make a new B.net account and use one of your free trials.
After the trial expires you can still use the "play as guest" option to play single player offline. If you go into the folder Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts and then drag the files for Campaign Progress and everything in the Banks folder into the folder for the guest account, it will put your campaign save file into the guest account. Then you can do the same thing into your real account once it gets fixed and not lose all of your progress in the single player.

Since there was no solution to this, I bought myself another copy of SC2 and it works.
HAHAHA.
What a huge beat in this win.

Chill already said that all connection issues have to be posted in the "Connection Issues," thread. There was already a topic about this which got merged into it.
In short...
You created a Eu account and purchased the NA version, or vice versa. For those saying, "no, I can clearly see I have a NA account," you are wrong. Even if shows that you are NA, your address is registered fine, etc. the only think Blizzard took into account is that you created your bnet account how long ago on eu.blizzard.net EVEN IF YOU PUT IN NA as your location. Dumb, yes. Oversight by them.
Consequently, when you bought the game, it bought you a NA copy simply because you told them you lived in NA, which conflicts with the fact you signed up on European servers (or vice versa).
My solution was, I bought the digital download (if you bought retail you're SOL atm), so I called tech support and asked for a refund. Then I made a new account on us.battle.net and rebought the game via digital download, and it works fine.
