So yeah, Nvidia hyping it up by saying that they were surprised by AMD 7xxx poor performance was mostly just bullshit PR. Well, as i understand it, they'll release another series of more high end kepler later in the year (GK110), but then again by that time AMD might have updated their GPUs to be less underclocked...

If you aren't OCing, you want an h67/61 mobo and a non-k suffix processor. And it depends on your voltages and temperatures

Sandy Bridge is easy to overclock, it is worth it. If you are too afraid you can opt for the $20 insurance Intel provides that covers the chip in case you break it while overclocking, which you wont do as long as you arent reckless.

You can check out the various articles to see comparisons between the various cards and learn more about it to help in your decision making: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5625 , http://techreport.com/articles.x/22573 I can't find a GTX 560 ti for under £160, unfortunately, which is well over $200. The Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 is only £134 and seems to do fairly similar on the benchmarks from those articles. Are either of these worth it at their current prices?

I'm unsure of UK pricing but components over there are generally more expensive. Both the 7950 and 7970 are well over their MSRP of $450 and $550 as well.

Find reviews for individual laptops, or nothing is guaranteed. I frequently hit slideshow framerates in that game before I gave up on Bioware completely, and they weren't heading in any directions I liked. And that's on my desktop. Tried all kinds of downclocks, and anything that might be reasonable, it was just the engine refusing to work.

This is what I have got so far. CPU- Intel Sandybridge i5-2400 Core i5 Quad-Core Processor MotherBoard- Asrock P67 PRO3 REV 3.0 1155 Motherboard GPU- Still undecided. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated PSU- Corsair CMPSU-430CXV2UK Builder Series CX430V2 - 80 Plus Certified Power Supply CASE- Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus - Mid tower - ATX - no power supply ( EPS12V/ PS/2 ) - black - USB/Audio/E-SATA HDD- Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive DVD- Sony 24x Internal DVD Rewriter - Black Would a 1GB GPU be adequate or would more be needed? If anyone has cheaper alternatives or sees a glaring issue advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you can't overclock than you can't afford a 2GB or 3GB GPU such as a 7850 or 7970. If you're looking to reduce costs further, you can get a Bitfenix Merc Alpha instead of a HAF912: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BitFenix-Merc-Alpha-Tower-Chassis/dp/B005JRICNG

The VRAM on the video card is generally not a limiting factor, unless you're playing certain texture-heavy games at resolutions higher than 1920x1200 and cranking up antialiasing and other settings. You're focusing on one of the least important things with regards to video cards. Some kind of HD 6850 or HD 6870 model should still be the best value, or maybe a GTX 560 if it's the same price as a HD 6870. P67 and Z68 motherboards are for overclocking. You can pick something a lot cheaper if you won't do that, particularly if you don't need 4 RAM slots / SATA3 / USB3 / other things. HAF 912 Plus is kind of expensive. In NA we get the non-Plus version, which has less fans and is usually a good value, but in Europe the 912 Plus is just not as price competitive (the extra cooling is really not that useful in general).
