Earlier in the day, when it was linked, the RAM was the first thing on the page.
On a side note, it's only $20 after mail-in rebate, so it's not that amazing a deal and hence why it's not sold out yet. When did i criticize anybody? I'll gladly apologize for any criticism that was unfortunately portrayed in my comment as it was not meant as such, but i will not apologize for making a simple mistake as i am human and mistakes are guaranteed, especially from me :D. Thanks for understanding . Saying "that's not RAM" is pretty mean spirited usually. The subtext is "you're an idiot. Why did you waste my time with an invalid link." That is why you were perceived as being rude. That's the trouble with the internet i guess, i never meant it as an offensive remark, just in a more guiding, helpful manner, maybe i didn't portray it correctly, idk.... I can see exactly where you are both coming from.

I wouldn't worry about it.
Realize Rachnar responded to your 3 word comment, with another 3 word comment. You assuming his comment was aggressive is very ironic considering he was mirroring you. Yet no hard feelings were meant anywhere.

You make a good point. I apologize.

Hello
I very new and scared about building computers. I'm scare because my friends had sooo many problems with building one before. I think I could put one together but I have no idea what to buy ( A bit after reading the 1st post)
I have around $1000 Cnd available to build a computer. I don't want top of the line stuff but I do want to run Witcher 2, Skyrim and Rage on max or at least high. Maybe not the best games to set a standard, but hopefully that would help. I already have a Nice mouse, keyboard and monitor, so I'm just building the tower.
If someone could give me a build for a Canadian shopper that be great also, unless you think buying from the USA would give me a better deal.
Thanks in advance

I think you just answer my question by asking yours Unless someone has a Canadian version of this :/

Hello! I am looking to upgrade my desktop in the coming post-christmas sales.
These are my current specs:
Wireless Network Card: -None, had one, it broke. Please suggest one.
GPU: - ATI Radeon 4850 HD
RAM: - 2GB Gigabyte Value-Pack Ram.
CPU: - Intel Duo Core E8400 3.00/3.00 GHz
Motherboard: - Gigabyte EP35-DS3R
Harddrive: - WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B0
Please suggest upgrades. Like what parts i should upgrade and give me suggestions.
I don't need links to specific offers on various websites, as i will be buying from Norwegian sites due to extreme import taxes.
I have about 750$ to spend.
Edit: What am i expecting? I have 750$ to spend on new parts, and i wanted suggestions as to which parts i should buy, as i'm clueless myself

@Cerumo Cooler Master Hyper 212+
@dizzee In order to give you good suggestions we need to know what you are expecting. That computer isn't all that old. 2 GB of RAM is a little tight maybe but that is about it honestly.

After a few weeks of waiting I bought my GPU and am near complete with my build. Instead of giving in to the high prices of HDD I decided to take out a HDD I had from an older build. Before I just plug it in and let it go I figured I would check if there was anything important I should do or if I can just reformat it once I plug it in. (The HDD is nearly empty...still has Vista on it though so I wasn't sure if my PC would auto select 7 from my SSD or if I needed to do some precautionary measures.)
Thanks as always!
**edit I forgot to list both drives are Sata so I think I'm ok just want to 2x check

Alright so i'm looking to upgrade my processor(If necessary) and my video card. I know for a fact the video card is complete and utter garbage for gaming(Radeon 6450). What' i'm looking for is to play Starcraft 2 in Ultra settings at 1680x1050 as well as SWTOR maxed out. Now for SWTOR I'm thinking i'm going to need to upgrade my processor for sure.
The processor i'm currently using is the Intel Core 2 E6420@2.13ghz(motherboard socket 775) which is decent, but I could probably get something better for a cheap price. I don't plan on upgrading the motherboard. The processors i'm looking at are here: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=106&subminorcatid=26 As for the video card i'm thinking I should wait for these guys: http://source.ncix.com/lp4/ca/zotac_boxing_week_deal/index.html
How do you guys think I should go about upgrading these components? My budget for the processor is $100-$300 and for the video card $200-300. Thanks!

You don't want to buy four year old processors. $300 can get you a core i5 2400 or similar, h61 motherboard, and 8gb of ddr3. It's smart to wait for boxing day for these components. As for the graphics card, you'll want a Radeon 6850 or bette

You need to set boot priority to your SSD first in your BIOS or you'll be given the option to select whether to boot Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
You can format the HDD once you're in Windows or just leave it as is if you wish.

Hey Guys,
I'm looking into building a system in the next month or so, and hoping to take advantage of some of the upcoming boxing day sales. I currently own a laptop (i7 Q720, HD 5470 graphics, 6G ram) and I was looking at something that would be better for gaming, and just faster overall. I'll be using it mainly for games/school, which would include things like 3D drafting and some photoshop on the school side, and starcraft/skyrim/other games on the gaming side. I'll admit I don't know much about building PCs, but I've tried to do as much research as possible in the last couple of weeks.
I was wondering if anyone here would be able to give me some advice with my build, since I'm unsure where to go from here. Here are the answers to questions on the first page of this thread:
Budget - $1000-1200 I'm not really sure what this will include. As I'm going from a laptop I'll need keyboard and monitor. I'd like a mouse, but I have an old one at the moment that will do for now. Resolution - I don't really know. Since I'm buying a monitor it can be whatever really. I'd prefer 1920x1080. Uses - As I mentioned above, gaming, 3D drafting, photoshop. Upgrade Cycle - I'd like to make something that will last a while, maybe around 3 years. Not too sure what is normal here. When to build - Anytime soon. I'll be on a work term in the spring, so no classes to get in the way of building and enjoying a new computer. Overclocking - Again, not sure what I should answer here. If overclocking will make a noticeable difference in performance, then yes. If it doesn't increase the price by too much, then I think I'd do it anyways since I've always been curious about overclocking. OS - I have a key for Win 7. SLI - I'm not too worried about SLI right now, but if I do a build with a longer upgrade cycle, it might be worth it so I can upgrade in the future. Where am I buying - NCIX. I'm in Canada, and live near one so I don't need to worry about shipping.
With all this in mind, here's what I have so far:
CPU - 2500k MBO - not too sure but probably z68/p67 GPU - nVidia GTX 560 ti 8G DDR3 ram.
Things I am not sure about: Case - I'm not picky, but I wasn't sure about full/mid size. HDD - Don't need a huge one, I never seem to need much storage. SSD - Is it worth it? CPU cooler - I'll need one if I'm overclocking, but I don't know what's good.
If anyone would like to give me some advice, it would be much appreciated. The things I've picked aren't set in stone or anything, it's just what I thought would fit my build best.
Cheers
p.s. sorry for the long post

You'll want an Intel Core i5 2500k. This will be around $200.
There will most likely be bundle deals as well with the processor. You don't want a high-end motherboard because you are never going to fully utilize what it offers so stay away from GD80, EVO, Deluxe, Maximus, Rampage, and UD7 suffixes. You're basically looking at a $120-$160 board from ASUS, MSI, or Gigabyte. You want to avoid MSI C series, ASUS LE and LX suffixes, and avoid Gigabyte altogether (unless there is a SUPER SUPER deal (lol who am i kidding)). If you want SLi as a future upgrade path than ensure the board supports it which include but not limited to MSI P67 G43 / G45, P67 GD55 / G65, Z68 GD55, ASUS P8P67 Pro, P8Z68-V, and so on.
The GTX 560 Ti will be around $230. If you want lifetime warranty, you'll want an EVGA with an -AR suffix. If you want good heatsinks than the MSI Twin Frozr II / III, ASUS DirectCu II, and Gigabyte Windforce. If you don't care about any of this than any brand is fine. Zotac is suppose to have some good deals.
2x4gb of memory will be around $35, just pick up any 1333MHz cas9 or 1600MHz for under $40.
Power supply, you'll want a ~500w unit for a single graphics card configuration and a ~650w unit for a SLI configuration. Good units include but not limited to PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III, Corsair TX v2 / TX M / AX, Antec Earthwatts / High Current Gamer, Seasonic S12II / M12II / X, and XFX Core Edition. Most of everything else, I'd avoid. A 650w unit will be around $70-$120 depending on which you pick (the lower priced ones will be the Antec High Current Gamer, Earthwatts, XFX Core Edition, Seasonic S12II because they're not modular. the more expensive ones will be the Corsair AX and Seasonic X because they're 80+ Gold and fully modular. The rest are inbetween because of their brand name or being semi modular.)
You don't need and probably won't want a full size case since it's gigantic. Any mid sized tower that is to your liking is fine. Good ones that may go on sale include but not limited to Coolermaster 690ii Advanced, Antec P183, Antec P280, Fractal Design Define R3, Corsair 600T, and so on. Should be about $80 to $120 for these cases. If you're not picky and want a less expensive case so you can allocate funds elsewhere, you can just pick up a Coolermaster HAF 912 for around $50.
SSD is worth it. The Intel 320 series SSDs aren't the fastest on the market but they carry a five year warranty and is well regarded in stability. It'll still be blazing fast comapred to your traditional HDD. They'll be on sale again with the rebate (just like Black Friday) so it's going to be less than a $ per gb. Sandforce SSDs such as the Vertex 3 and Kingston HyperX will go on sale but I can't recommend them.
DVD burner is going to be $10.
HDDs, just pick a Caviar Green, Caviar Blue, or Seagate Barracuda.
Heatsink, inexpensive one would be Coolermaster Hyper 212+ which usually goes for $23. You'll probably be able to find a Corsair A70 or Noctua NH-U12 on sale for around $30 / $40 respectively.
You either want the Dell U2312HM which is on sale for $200 (regular price is $319) or a 120Hz monitor. Please do not get a shitty TN monitor for $100 unless you don't value the screen you stare at for hours on end at all. The U2410 is also on sale for $419 (regular price is $549) if you want a better IPS panel than the U231HM for colour critical work.
Overclocking is well within your budget even without boxing day deals. The difference in overclocking can be seen here for the 2500k and various other processors as well: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-2600k-990x_9.html#sect0

Thanks so much!
Just a couple more questions:
I feel like this might be a stupid question, but I would be installing my OS on the SSD to make the most of it, right? Also, where did you see the U2312HM on sale? I can't see it on NCIX, and it's $300 on Dell's site.
This helps a lot. Hopefully I can start ordering/building when I get back home next week.
