![]() so... Any last suggestions, Do I need anything else to put it together? missing anything? Also I think I need a power cord for the power supply... Since I don't have one now. I would like a sturdy case that I can bang around a bit (not purposely but things happen) and I'm willing to spend a few more bucks for that.

Yes, the power supply does not come with a power cord so you'll need to buy one or get one from some place (just take a computer related course or join a computer related club or befriend your school IT teacher and just get a power cord for free). You can pick whatever case you want. No you don't need anything else. Both HDMI and DVI is digital and the audio processing will be done by the same source so yes it's basically the same thing.

Any time you're passing sound through digital (except in some particular situations, like where some surround sound needs to be compressed a bit), aside from the occasional drop out, there is no loss in fidelity. You're getting the same data at the other end. It's the side that does the digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion that determines the sound quality. However, the quality of the speakers or headphones will generally have a much larger impact on the sound quality, so I wouldn't worry about this too much. So if you pass sound through HDMI to say a TV, it will be the D/A implementation in the TV that determines the sound quality. If you're sending sound out from the 3.5mm analog jacks on the motherboard, the D/A was handled by the integrated audio chip there. Pretty much every monitor that has its own speakers built in will have an HDMI in connection to take advantage of that (crappy) sound. Many monitors without speakers will not have an HDMI in. No big deal there?

This RAM is $10 cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313123&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL092011&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL092011-_-EMC-092011-Latest-_-DesktopMemory-_-20313123-L05A with promo code EMCKAHK28. Too bad you didn't manage to get the shellshocker for $35 8GB Gskill sniper. I bet you if you ask their customer support if you can get it anyways at that price they'll give it to you if you mention you're a brand new customer or something like that. I've gotten over $30 total over 3 different orders in the past few weeks by contacting customer support and telling them I didn't manage to purchase the item I wanted in time, or that a price drop happened after I bought it (of course, it actually DOES have to drop) and they've given me the difference everytime I've contacted them.

I'd sooner get an i5 2400 and a 6870.

my motherboard Asrock h61m-vs is not on the qaulified motherboard list, and my ram has been causing me bsod. How can i tell if it is bad ram or just not being compatible with my mobo. When i just use 1 of the 2gb ram sticks, no crashes occur but comp seems slow. if i change it to 8-8-8-21 will that fix anything?

If you have money for a 6950 2gb than you have money for a core i5 2500k. Tightening the timings is going to cause more BSODs if your memory isn't even stable at 1600MHz cas9 even though your board isn't capable of running 1600MHz. Has both your modules passed memtest? Have you ensured it's set to 1333MHz cas9 at 1.5v?

It's most likely one of the RAM sticks being faulty. Can you use either of the two sticks and have it work fine, only BSOD when used in conjuction together? Tightening timings won't help. The h61m-vs only supports up to 1333mhz anyways, I believe, so you overpaid for 1600.

I believe most people backup and reformat their drives as opposed to uninstalling all the drivers. I don't know though, I've always gotten a new HDD everytime I get a new computer as it's usually a ~4-5 year cycle for me.

You can check settings in the BIOS.
