I've been playing sc2 on ultra everything and I seem to get some frame rate lag sometimes. Not sure if its my GPU or temps or something else, GPU running around 75 C. My cpu temps are all in the mid 40's C. I can post full build if needed. Well, since your CPU is more important for SC2 than your GPU, and there's no halfway decent GPU that cares about hitting 75C, more information would help. And there's about 63 trillion existing threads about bad framerates that can tell you that much and a fair bit more.

when you get an upgrade version of windows 7 for students, it give you the option to download it or get a backup disc for $15. can't you just download it and burn it to a disc then do a clean install that way? or do you have to get the back up disc if you want to do a clean install.

What is your budget? $700-1000 What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Play SC2, Star Wars Old Republic, Diablo 3, Battlefield3. Music, Movies, Internet When do you plan on building it? Within the next couple of weeks Do you plan on overclocking? Yes Do you need an Operating System? No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No. Where are you buying your parts from? I can drive to local Microcenter or Frys and US-Newegg. I would like to have a SSD around 80GB for my operating system and a few apps on it if possible and maybe a smaller drive on the side around 500GB. Thank you and any input is appreciated.

Yes, it's possible to extract your office key. Yes, you can just burn it to a disc. @tacowagon If you need to ask whether you should do what your friend is proposing than you shouldn't be doing it. Do you pay $600 for a new iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, or Blackberry every year? If yes than you can easily afford a core i5 2500k, upgrade to a $200 Ivybridge, upgrade to a $200 Haswell, upgrade to a $200 Broadwell, etc. No need in asking... I'm sorry if some people get butthurt that their new shiney product that they bought gets outdated in six months time, it's just how it works. You don't buy an iPhone 4 a few months prior to the release of a new iPhone just to get rid of it... Either buy now and upgrade on the tick cycle so your next upgrade would either be Haswell or Skylake. Or wait until Ivybridge and upgrade on the tock cycle, Broadwell or Skymont. $928 before mail in rebates Intel Core i5 2500k @ $180 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589 Asrock P67 Pro3 @ $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157230 Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti @ $235 ($205 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125363 GSkill 2x4GB 1333MHz @ $45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231422 Intel 320 Series 80GB @ $160 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167047 Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB @ $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 Coolermaster HAF 912 @ $60 ($50 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 Antec High Current Gamer 520 @ $59 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371047 DVD Burner @ $19 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136216 @gruff Yes, there's been some leaks but whether they're legit or not is subjective... There's also been rumors that it's been delayed until October and ya... but most of the leaks seem to suggest that Sandybridge still holds IPC crown.

also thats ddr2 with an old cpu, for optimized gameplay and performance, a step up to an i5-2400/h61/8gb ram would not be bad either, so what is your budget ?

If it were me personally i would keep it like this for some time still, but if money isnt really an issue for you or, if you like to play the lattest games on the highest setting, then yeah indeed an upgrade is a good idea.

For most people, 8GB of RAM is already overkill. But for professional apps, some few people can benefit from 16GB of RAM. You might be one of those people if you work with exceptionally large files, lots of files at once, or use largish files and run both lightroom and photoshop at the same time (rather than one at a time). If you decide to consider this or want to in the future, you should probably make sure the motherboard you get has 4 slots for RAM and not just 2. (This could mean spending a bit more.) @ Don'tpanic: yeah, the Computer Resource Build Thread can be addicting. But "if it ain't broke, don't upgrade it" is still a good rule.
