I had to kick up Vdimm and VTT a tad to get my PC running properly when I tightened it to C8.

So I've been living in Korea for a while now (about 20 months) and I'm just sick of playing SC2 on my laptop. It's not bad, but I do play on the lowest settings and do get FPS lag in even late game 1v1, and quite often in 2v2 (never tried 3v3 and above -_-) I'm used to it, but I've decided enough is enough. I'm going to be bringing my desktop PC back with me to Korea when I go home for vacation. (Going to bring it on the plane carry-on... hope that will work. But that's another issue >_<) Right now the computer at home is roughly as follows: CPU: Intel E8800 Dual Core 3.0 GHz (not sure of other details on hand, unfortunately.) RAM: 4 GB Corsair whatever (again, sorry I can't be more specific >_<) Video: Radeon HD 4870 I'd kill to have this computer run SC2 on at least high settings flawlessly under all circumstances (4v4 here I come? ^^). However, I'm strongly considering upgrading the video card. But according to this thread (scroll down a bit in OP, to GPU, desktops, high power cards) it should run the game on ultra at any resolution anyway. Is that flawlessly? The video card I would consider upgrading to is: Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Xtreme. The cost of that is about $150 when converting from KRW. The other option is Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 but from what I've read and been told, the 5850 xtreme is sort of better anyway? I said my goal is to play on high settings, but I'm not afraid to drop ~$150-160 on a new card if it will play SC2 at extreme flawlessly and also D3 flawlessly. The 5850/6850 would be a pretty large difference, right? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm flying home in a month and I'm getting eager to buy stuff now. I'm playing on a 17" or whatever (smaller?) laptop screen. I want to buy my new 24" LG monitor ASAP!. And also a keyboard... oh I can't imagine playing SC2 on a full-sized keyboard. ^^

the sapphire radeon 5850 at 150$ is a really good buy. It's pretty much as bang for buck as you can get...at least at that price in north america. It sold out in a week's time and I sort of regret not getting 2x when I had the chance. In terms of performance it is comparable to the 6870.

So I guess I can't really go wrong buying the 5850. About the CPU bottleneck, I don't really care about 4v4 so as long as I'm good to go on say 2v2 or the odd 3v3 I'm fine with that. I also don't mind dropping down to ultra if that would make a difference (but if it's CPU, maybe not?). I don't really want to go the route of upgrading the CPU if I can help it. While I don't mind spending money, I'm also not that picky about everything running at the absolute max settings flawlessly. I just want it to look nice and run well, hehe. Ugh, it's just stressful to think about all the hoops I'm going to have to jump through to get the PC from Canada to Korea... and then making sure it's worth my time. edit: but being able to play D3 is also very important to me... at least on say... high settings equivalent in SC2. I hope it'll be okay for that. I don't plan on upgrading my PC at all for I'd say 3-4 years (and all I'll play is SC2/D3).

Im fairly certain that you would be fine @ high settings with the 4870. So if you are budget restricted and can't upgrade both, staying on the 4870 and upgrading your CPU would be more worthwhile as JingleHell stated initially.

I hope it'll be okay for that. I don't plan on upgrading my PC at all for I'd say 3-4 years (and all I'll play is SC2/D3). For something to last 3-4 years, I would upgrade now. A Wolfdale is serviceable for 1v1 or rare 2v2's, but if you are going to be consistently playing team games, I think you are better served biting the bullet now and upgrading to a SB setup. If money is an issue, you would need only get an i3-2100/H61 + 4GB set of DDR3. When you have the money, you can later bump it to an i5-2400 quad. As for your concerns of traveling, I can't say I trust airport security with my PC parts, particularly hard drives. If I were you, I'd transfer things over to solid state devices (thumb drives or SSDs) and throw those in your bag. I'd almost say it'd be better if you sell off your old system to fund your SB upgrade. These way the parts you are taking to SK are in original packaging, which should provide a good amount of cushioning. Add bubble wrap in your suitcase if you must lol. Then after you return to SK, you build it right then and there. *Hrmm...I think regarding your case, I would check if SK stores have a good selection. This may be the biggest factor on your decision I think ![]() Until the D3 beta is running, we really have no idea of the CPU/GPU requirements. If there are any questions, I believe it would be the necessary physics for spells/death animations. I believe the 4-person party size should somewhat mitigate serious CPU requirements, but we'll see. As for GPU, with the 4870 you may have to settle for medium/high - just my guess of course.

If you aren't sure about overclocking than why do you have a 2500k and P8P67 Deluxe? The motherboard has little to no impact on performance. More expensive motherboards just allow for further overclocking, offer more features such as SLI / on-board buttons / etc, and have more connectivity. If you're not overclocking or need specific features, a $70 motherboard will be just as good as a $200 motherboard. The K suffix on Intel processors signify an unlocked multiplier which is used for overclocking. If you're not overclocking than you can get a regular core i5 2500 or a core i5 2400. I'm assuming you want to do

Is there a reason besides aesthetics you have chosen that case btw?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116992 Hmm. I don't plan to do SLI, so I should look for a cheaper motherboard then I guess. I'll add a cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082 One of my friends thought my original PSU power was too low. This was my original one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207012 But the price is almost the exact same including shipping that I figured more power wouldn't hurt. Case was based on aesthetics and how easily the air could flow out. Still a little caught up on dimensions for the case though. My friend said his GPU barely fit his case.

Why do you need Professional? If you needed features offered by professional, wouldn't you be able to get it through other means already?
