Processor: i5 2400 Memory: 2x2GB memory kit PSU: Antec Earthwatts 430W Motherboard: Asrock H61M-VS DVD Drive: Samsung DVD drive GPU: AMD HD6870 Case: Fractal Design Define Mini Total: $870 Feel free to cut costs by getting a cheaper case. BTW Overclocking isn't particularly hard these days. If you install an aftermarket CPU cooler, all you do is change the multiplier within the BIOS and forget about it. Since you've got a lot of money to spend on a computer, you might want to upgrade to a P67 motherboard and a Intel i5 2500k.

I've been meaning to build a PC for a while. I actually haven't had one since Windows 95 was the latest thing (oh dear); I've only ever had laptops for over a decade. I'm going to be a senior next year for college, and so I was planning on buying a small netbook I'd use for class (MS office, Internet, maybe light work in R), and having a gaming quality PC for my dorm. I still have my Thinkpad T61 from three years ago (excellent laptop), though, so I might not get the netbook. It's heavy and bulky (and doesn't have a working battery, so I have to lug around its AC cord everywhere), but it works excellently; I might not even buy a netbook. In any case, my budget is around $1,250 USD, but I don't own speakers, a monitor, or a keyboard either (so I also have to subtract those from the price), so I'm unsure on the resolution I'm going to be using. Sorry for that <_< My main goal is to build a PC for mostly gaming, with some minor image/video editing. I'm not a professional by any means, so this is really kind of a side note and doesn't really factor into the decision. As long as I can play, say, upcoming D3 on good settings (and can easily upgrade my GPU), I'll be more than content. I plan on keeping this PC for at least two years, probably closer to four-five. I plan on building it in late August/early September when I get back to school, though, so prices might change a lot/parts might become unavailable/etc. I don't plan on overclocking because of an irrational fear that something will go wrong. I'd also rather not fiddle with cooling and heatsinks and stuff like that; I just want something that can run things out of the box (well, as out of the box as you can get for putting it together yourself XD). No plans to add a second GPU (but this isn't a consideration for reasons I'll get to below). Finally, I'll likely be buying them mostly from online sources. There's a Fry's pretty close to my house, but my house is also 12 hours from where I go to school (so...yeah). An additional consideration is the fact that I want the PC to fit a specific aesthetic: I really hate the flashy transparent LED stuff that a lot of my friends have, and I prefer to have more understated/brushed aluminum type things. I'm also looking to save space. With that being said, I'm pretty much committed to the Lian Li PC-Q08 case (so yeah, two GPUs won't fit). Like...99%. Obviously this'll have to factor into any recommendations. I've found a few recommendations on the internet (http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/dm4ug/lianli_pcq08_gaming_build/), but I was wondering if I could get some more up-to-date recommendations. Also, are there any final considerations with using that case? It's very expensive and eats up a large part of my budget, but I might be willing to spend a bit more (especially because I need peripherals as well). This is kind of a tangent, but do you have any immediate monitor/keyboard/speaker recommendations? This is much less important, of course (and I know this thread is mainly for PCs). Headed back home now from work, will check in a bit after I eat/commute (if you have any further questions for me). Thanks much, and you guys've been doing a great job in this thread ![]()

$190 - i5-2400 $87 - ASRock H67 mITX $73 - 8GB GSkill Ripjaws $40 - Antec EA430W $248 - Gigabyte 6950 OC $19 - DVD RW $100 - Windows 7 $65 - Spinpoint F3 1TB Total: $931.91 A bit left over to get a nice monitor. I wouldn't know too much about monitors, but you should have plenty for a decent 24' 1080p one as well as peripherals.

Remember that the Lian Li Q08 is tight as hell, so non-modular power supplies are going to be a pain in the ass to build with; not impossible but you're going to need a lot of zip ties and some planning before installation. Apparently the go-to power supply is the Silverstone Strider 500W because its good, modular, and short. Yes it has a blue fan but it doesn't light up or anything as far as I know. How small do you want your computer to be? There are a few other possible cases: - Silverstone SG03 and SG04 - Silverstone TJ08 - Lian Li A04 and A05N All of these cases look great but they have room for mATX, and in the case of the A05N full ATX, and still very compact packages. As for the monitor, do you need colour accuracy/viewing angles? Or don't you care? If you don't care, just get any Samsung/BenQ/Asus monitor you can find because they're all mostly the same. If you do care, your only two real options are: - finding a cheap HP LP series monitor or 20"/23" Apple Cinema Display (the one with aluminium casing) on Craigslist or eBay - buying a Dell Ultrasharp straight from Dell. If you know anyone in military or you in an university that has a deal with them, you can probably get a discount coupon.

And also, for the motherboard, running a P67 northbridge. The main two components I am undecided on :O

Also, you don't need an i7. If you haven't bought it, just get a i5 2500k and either pocket it or spend it on a proper motherboard or something. PSU has to be least a very good 650W. This should be good enough for you.

Ah yes, I know that much about the motherboard (was planning on 16x/16x...maybe overkill for 460 SE?) Meant more like if there was a particular well priced but good motherboard you would recommend. Btw that i7 2500k was a typo. I meant i5 lol. $100 more for 100mhz more clockspeed and 2 mb cache? Hell no! p.s. that xfx 650w psu is some seriously good shit! $59.99 after rebate O.O!

This is pretty good. It'll run at 8x/8x with SLI, which is pretty much the best you're going to get sub $200 range. In fact, I don't actually know a motherboard that can do 16x/16x (maybe Asus WS Revolution?).

lol ~_~ You have any experience with how Newegg's open box products turn out in terms of reliability?
