Hey guys,
After taking all weekend to place the order (had to wait till i could make the order) the motherboard i had intended on buying has just sold out!!!
Do people think its worth waiting for + Show Spoiler + that build or is there another motherboard available in ebuyer at a similar price for similar/ better performance?
Thanks
|
Hmm do you want to be able to crossfire something like 2 5770s later on? If not you can get a cheaper motherboard that's still good quality.
|
Id like to be able to crossfire them in the future, but if the one that just sold out is the best for that i might just have to wait. What are the alternatives? For both corossfireing them and not.
Thanks

I'm planning on getting 2 of these in a couple days. My local BestBuy has them for $199. I also prefer LG and Samsung for monitors (Asus & Acer....not very good at displays). Thoughts?

just buy a new video card in 2-3 years instead of crossfiring something new will come out that will be amazing probably at a lower price point than a 5770 costs right now

Thanks, i guess your right, i guess thats what im intending on doing with the processor (upgrading to a bulldozer).
Can you recomend a good motherboard? will this be ok
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169532 £69
for this build + Show Spoiler + on a 1200x760 (roughly) resolution. Or would i be better with this motherboard + Show Spoiler +http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002KF7BAA/ref=pd_luc_mri?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
Thanks
Edit: Also will it matter if these motherboards have integrated graphics cards already on them if i am going to be using an hd5770?

I prefer integrated graphics on my motherboards, just because if something ever goes wrong it's a lot easier (IE: you can remove the video card) to figure out WHAT went wrong.

Why not just get the dual core phenom II? 555 BE for 10 pounds more? Or is 10 pounds a lot of money :/

Is it alot better? The thought behind this was it might be able to unlock the 4th core.

If you have integrated graphics in addition to a video card, and something happens (failure to boot, etc...) the standard first thing to do is remove unnecessary components. A lot of times a computer will be able to boot with just the HDD and a stick of RAM. If you have no integrated graphics, then you can't remove the video card, and if the video card is the problem you'll have an unusable computer until you get a new one, whereas if you have integrated you'd be able to at least use your computer until you get a replacement (and possibly even find a fix without buying a new card).

I think the x3 is superior. The phenom x2 will be a little bit faster in sc2 (but not by much), but most other applications will benefit more from the third core.
|
Yeah I really wish the X3 720BE was still around. The best all-round performer, IMO, for AMD considering the price. I rarely recommend the cache-castrated models, b/c that will reduce your IPC. AMD is already fairly behind on IPC, so making that gap even further in the value models makes very little sense IMO. The risk is that the 555BE doesn't unlock, in which case Zero is spot on about the value. I believe the difference is actually 20 pounds (59 vs. 79) on ebuyer.com
|
So the thought is to keep the one i currently have? Also is there any risk involved in trying to unlock the core, weither or not is it unsuccessful? I also think it will be best to assume iot doesnt unlock for the purpose of ecided the best value.
|
The chances of unlocking 555BE or the the Athlon is the same, you flip a coin and see if you come on top.
The BE is better for overclocking so I would think the DIY potential to be much higher :/
For 20 pounds I would pick the 555BE, 20 pounds is not much considering the 2 or 3 years you would keep it for.

Which consumer board don't come with integrated graphics? :/

Crappy stand and glossy casing.
I personally would never get any screen that's not height adjustable and definitely no shining bits. MATT all around.
Since you are a programmer, you would probably prefer a screen that can do pivot as well (rotation).
