Yeah, but where? ?_? The extra peripherals from the PSU are probably going to stay at the bottom. The SATA cables connected to the HD/Optical are pretty long and I don't know where to stuff them when the SATA port is right there. The rear fan's power connector I don't know where else it could go. There's no holes near it to put it behind the mobo. All the case's front port cables come from behind and come out from that bottom hole to connect to all the ports at the bottom of the mobo.
|
extra peripherals should go through the management holes and stay in the back.
If in doubt stick them behind cable management.

I have to find out how much my brother spent on his computer so I get the exact amount I'm allowed to spend. Hopefully it's not too far off from what I have right now.
Also, there's an NCIX shop pretty close by so I can go pick it up in person.
@reprise, I can't seem to find the i5 760 + MSI GD55 motherboard combo on NCIX =/, could please link me?
I'm still up for suggestions and changes and I'll try to get my exact budget soon.
Thanks for the help so far!!

the second build is better imo because i think the 650w is safer. Any cd drive will do really, I got a LiteOn for like 20 bucks.

Kool, is there anyway i cuold use the disk drives on my current computer by removing them and adding them to my new build? Also, what would happen if i use my current harddrive in the new build? Im gona buy a 1TB one, but i seen a guy on youtube using the 0 Raid configuration to make 2 harddrives act as one. If i used my current one with all my stuff still saved on it, what would happen? would i be able to go through and set the 0 raid configuration then load up in my current xp, meaning i wouldnt have to buy an os? The reason i ask is because i can get a windows 7 pro for £30 but only if i have a current operatin system.
My plan if the build goes well, is to load up normally but with my current harddrive and new harddrive in 0raid. Then before installing my componants, run the windows 7 upgrade, reformating (this means delete everything on the harddrive?) my old harddrive. After this i would then go ahead and begin installing all my drivers? Does this sound like it would work?
Thanks

I've never really felt RAID is a good idea on a desktop. RAID 5 for a media server box, maybe, but certainly not for the desktop (and definitely not 0). 0 is nice for performance, but if one drive goes out you lose everything. If you really want speed, spend extra on an SSD. It's less complicated - and for the desktops, simplicity is better IMO. Of course SSDs, quality ones, are expensive.
If you want a boost of speed with traditional HDs, I would use the new F3 as the OS drive and short-stroke it (partition only 10% of it for use). For data HDs, obviously partition the whole thing out, since speed isn't as important. Short-stroking is a great alternative to SSDs if you can't afford it.

from what i see, if i don't plan to oc/hyperthread/some stuff you guys do, i should go with the i5 750 for gaming and general use?
What's the difference between the i5 750 and 760 ?
What motherboard should i get?
what does the x16/x16 or x8/x8 in the first post motherboard spoiler mean? should i go for some random p55 motherboard like the build reprise post What's the difference between a p55 and x58?
GTX 460/ 5850/ something else?
What PSU should i get? i intend to fit 2 1TB HD if possible into the computer
Will still need to buy a HD monitor and crappy keyboard
Budget would be ~1.5k singapore dollars. could probably go up by 200 but that that would be the max
or should i just copy Divine[aX]'s computer build with the core items?
|
i5 750 vs i5 760 is just 133MHz
If you only plan on getting 1 GPU, just go with an ASUS P7P55D-E or a Gigabyte P55 UD3R
X16/X16 means 16 lanes of bandwidth are open to each GPU X8/X8 means 8 lanes of bandwidth are open to each GPU
P55 VS X58 is a different socket (so different CPU) and X58 is X16/X16 while P55 is generally X8/X8 or X16/0
GTX 460 1GB is the best GPU for SC2 and probably the best GPU overall at the moment
500W should be more than enough
I don't know any places where you could buy computer parts from in Singapore so you're going to have to tell us what store you are going to use.

Thanks for the answers fragkrag. I'm gonna go down to the local electronic place and buy the parts in person.

Ok guys, disregarding weither or not i use raid settings, if i assemble my computer with both my new harddrive, can i also use both my harddrives (my old one and my new one (i was thinking of using raid0 because it would mean i could use both hardddrives and make the next step possible.
So im pretty sure i havent made sense so il restart. I can get a windows 7 UPGRADE for £30 which means i can meet my budget. I have xp on my current hardrive, but it is not big enough and i want to install my 1TB one that i have ordered. I was wandering if there was a way that i could build with my old computer and load up with my current xp system that is loaded on, so that i could then get my windows 7 upgrade.
As far as i am aware, when you install windows 7 you are given the option to delete your current memory (which i want) and end up with windows7. At this point i would then install all my drivers.
Would this work?
Thanks

EDIT: My budget for both the "box" setup and TV (all with cables and such) is 1600-1800USD
I'm going to buy a desktop soon and would like to know if the one I'm about to post information on is good enough to run SC2 on the highest settings without giving the comp any troubles at all and also could someone tell me if I'm overkilling with this specific setup, its a Dell XPS9100 setup btw thats priced at 1500USD as shown. Also could someone inform me of what all I have to do to use a flatscreen TV as a monitor and if it will work with this computer, I'm very new to all of this, thank you:

EDIT:If this setup can be altered by me just buying the stuff I need and having a local computer shop build it for cheaper with the same quality I'm all ears on how to go about doing that, I'm quick to learn but don't really know what all would be needed to make that happen but my basic need is ONLY the "box" setup and some idea of what TV to buy and how to make that work as my monitor, damn that sounds sooo noob, help me!!

Hey, thanks for the link. I'm currently using an ATI 5750 and it shows in their benchmarks that it runs the most "intense" situations at around 40-50 fps on Ultra, AF x16 at 1600x900 res.
I don't get those frame rates even when I run on high. What would you say is limiting my pc?
cpu: C2Q Q6600 (not overclocked) 2.4GHz ram: 5GB ram DDR2 gpu: HD 5750 hdd: 750 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) os: W7 pro
I currently have everything set to high (or lower) @ 1400x900 res and in big battles, my fps drops to the 30s. The recommended settings are maxed at 'high' but I'm wondering if I can play this game at ultra.
