I will be going to the computer store tomorrow after I play sc2 for 1-3 hours and hopefully nothing wrong happens within this time. What I would really like to know is: I have a GA-P35-DS3L S-series Ultra durable 2 motherboard by gigabyte - does this impose any restrictions on what PSU I can get? And what are the exact risks of running my PSU at full capacity in the short term - or are the risks borne in the long term? Add: Another question - I looked up installing a PSU and it seems to have alot of plugs which are things I could see myself messing up. Is it as difficult as it looks and is it worth getting somebody else to install it for me for 20 dollars?

Also does the dual channel in a triple channel mobo hold true for all mobos? As in, could I stick 4 gigs of dual channel DDR3 RAM in this mobo?

Yes you can stick with just 2x2 for dual channel until you get another stick - there shouldn't really be any performance loss. To add insult to injury, I like how the Rosewill includes "40degrees C" in the product line. If a product has to blatantly advertise that it is rated for 40C operation, it is bound to raise suspicion, in a bad way. You don't see Corsair or Seasonic doing that do you?

I had the Vista Ultimate before that, then I used the same disk and installed on a brand new SSD. So your previous version of windows is not important. However, your key is tied to one computer FYI. Thanks! Renewed my hopes. :D

The Athlon II x3 435 follows a similar manufacturing process. The chance of unlocking the cores are entirely how the chip has been manufactured. The 555 BEs originally started as 955s, but if the 955s had faulty cores they would be turned into 555s to make up the loss. However, if that was the only way 555s were manufactured there obviously wouldn't be enough 555s in the market. There are also some 955s that are perfectly fine but are turned into 555s. That's a risk you take when you attempt to unlock a 555. AMD doesn't manufacture the 555 chip because that would require a completely different assembly line, so they just disable cores on the 955. This is wrong. They do not disable perfectly fine AMD Phenom II X4 955s. If you are able to unlock a core and have it be stable, the core was disabled for a different reason. Silicon die production isn't perfect so some cores end up leaking more power than AMD thinks is reasonable. Those cores are then disabled and marketed as lower core CPUs.

Yeah, the thing I'm looking to do most is avoid skimping on the PSU, which is why I ask these questions. I'd seen Rosewill recommended before, but I was wary of it because it's not one of the big name brands. I don't have the money for a second GPU yet anyways, so I'll just get a nice reputable 650W one and when I eventually have the money for a second 470, I'll grab a nice fat 950/1000W Corsair or something. Thanks for the fast response.

Solid motherboard with usb 3.0 and sata 3.0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412 as for psu, some people swear by corsair/seasonic, I've had no problems using ocz modxstream 600 W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017&cm_re=ocz_modxstream-_-17-341-017-_-Product 500 W, but after shipping/rebate it's almost the same price as the 600 W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&cm_re=ocz_modxstream-_-17-341-016-_-Product

Thanks for the fast response. Rosewill is Newegg's in house brand (along with ABS I think). So there might be a bit of trouble with them. Hardwaresecrets has reviewed a few of them and they didn't seem to be that bad.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=60 That said, Jonny reviewed the 750/850 units, so don't know what the 950 uses internally. Also I shouldn't put much credit on NE reviews, but anything more than 5% in the 1-star is a cause for concern regardless. The difference between the double and single fan configs are also concerning. It's either 24%/16% vs. 24%/18%. Still very high in the amount of 1-stars ![]() I'm still not a believer...maybe next time?

Hey, im really not surehow these things work so im wondering if you could tell me if trying to get the 4th to work could be damaging to it? Also to everyone else does the build i posted above look ok? Im looking for overall comments but i am a little more concerned about the PSU given previous comments so if anyone could calm my worries or have any suggestions id appreciate it. Edit: Adding build as it got left on the last page. + Show Spoiler + Athlon II x3 435 2.9ghz processor http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176043 £60 Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169532 £69 MSI HD 5770 1gb GDDR5 Graphics Card http://www.ebuyer.com/product/189239 £120 Coolermaster Elite 330 Case with 460w eXtreme Power PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135101 £58 Samsung Spinpoint F3 1tb 32mb Cache 7200rpm Hard Drive http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804 £48 Corsair 2x2gb DDR3 1333Mhz Cas 9 1.5v http://www.ebuyer.com/product/178943 £79 Cart total inc vat: £432.93 This should be getting you Ultra EZ at 1024x768. The processor I picked has a chance of "unlocking" its potential to 4 cores and/or a Phenom II processor with 6mb L3 cache. This is chance though, it's not guaranteed. If this does happen though, you profit about £55 :X Thanks Edit2: Also wandering about the motherboard, it says it has an integrated graphics card in the comments, but im also buying a hd5770, will i have to remove the inbuilt one? And will the HD5770 GPU i am buying be integrated or dedicated? I dont know what this means but i have heard dedicated is better?

dedicated cards have their own ram, integrated cards have to share ram with the rest of the comptuer

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208021&cm_re=xion_oynx-_-11-208-021-_-Product I tried my best to add more fans, I managed to stuck 2 extra 40mm in that thing... overall the cooling is decent. I dont think I have ever gone over 60-65C on my PC, even during the summer under full-load. While idle my E6420 is around 40C and my 4770 @ 55C(During cooler seasons it the CPU goes as low as 25C and the GPU hovers around 40C.. Forgot which AM3 MOBO I was gonna purchase, I'll worry about that when the time comes Ive really only decided on the Phenom II x4 955. And maybe 4GB of Ripjaws. My PSU is a EarthWatts 650W, I regret not getting the modular Seasonic. ![]()
