Well, as a wild guess, their corporate account with shippers probably includes a special shipping rate due to the large volume they move.
And of course, they aren't selling you parts at cost.

Day 1 of the waiting process .
Playing SC2 on low doesn't feel right with my build in the mail.

Meh, least you have something better than Fate. When I ordered my current rig, it was after my PSU went catastrophic upside my CPU and mobo, and my laptop could only handle Fate, MUDs and ASCIIs.

Maybe some of you educated fellows in this thread can lend me a hand. I need to find a laptop below 750-ish, that will last a few years and can at least passably run SC2 and similar. I've had plenty of helpful suggestions, but I have so little time right now I am overwhelmed with even the preset options from places like newegg.
I'm going to continue researching, including within this very thread, but if any of you fine lads can lend me direct education I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: For instance, do I just get over the part where 1360x768 is a stupid resolution? (because you drop pixels on any common stream/dvd/etc.? Which I don't even know if that is really true)

Hi guys. I was wondering if u could give me some feedback on my perhaps upcomming upgrade:
Old specs: Motherboard: Acer MCP73 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz GFX: ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 Ram: 4 Gb DDR2 Case: Antec Three Hundred PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750TX OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster T220
New specs: Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1) CPU: Core i5 I5-2500K 6 MB GFX: ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 (a new one later on) Ram: Kingston HyperX Genesis 2 x 4 GB Case: Antec Three Hundred PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750TX OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster T220 (+ Another 22" or 24" 16 : 9 monitor later on)
Goals: Being able to stream StarCraft 2 in 480p Good cost/performance ratio Better multitasking capabilities

@Krasso
I'm pretty sure Kingston HyperX Genesis is one of their top-end lines that has higher frequencies and tighter timings? Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're not getting tighter timings and higher frequencies for the same price as you find cas9 1333MHz memory, you shouldn't do it as the performance differences are very minimal.

Can't really tell you if the motherboard is a good selection since you never linked where you're buying so there may be better options. The P8P67 Pro is also unnecessary if you have no intention of doing SLI.
You would also want an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking the 2500k.
|
And if you just want to stream decent-quality 480p, I think a i5-2400 (and cheaper LGA 1155 motherboard that can't overclock the CPU) would be enough. That would lower the cost more while still doing what you want to do.
|
Due to my knowledge in finding good builds(or rather lack thereof), I would be very grateful to get some assistance in with it.
Questions/Answers in spoiler!
+ Show Spoiler +What is your budget?
800-900$
What is your resolution?
1680x1050 What are you using it for?
General gaming, mainly just want to keep up with more of the new releases, rather than be stuck either on low or with plenty of lag. Don't need it to be fit for anything special(No Photoshop,Streaming, etc.)
What is your upgrade cycle?
3+ Years, may become shorter in the future however.
When do you plan on building it? I'm willing to be flexible, but I would prefer relatively soon.
Do you plan on overclocking?
Nope
Do you need an Operating System? Yes, Windows.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I do not.
Where are you buying your parts from? Going to order them online.(Newegg, Tigerdirect, etc.) Thanks in advance

480p is just the minimum. Anything higher is just better.
(I am not very good at hardware. Had a friend help me find those parts)

That makes sense, but of course they aren't buying those parts at cost either. They are probably just taking a small piece of the pie, but when you sell millions of pies it adds up haha.

haha, I ordered mine yesterday, so I'm in the same boat as you...
Not sure what I will do while I wait =(
A UPS truck stopped by my house today, but it went across the street (dunno why I got excited, knew it wouldn't come today).

@WiK
You can get Windows for 29.99 through microsoft if you have an .edu account. I've actually got two .edu accounts if anyone wants a copy if it can work like that.

Okay so I'm still trying to set up my 2nd monitor I went and got a HDMI to Mini HDMI cable so I hooked it up via HDMI into the Graphics card but i'm still getting nothing ):
|
Ensure that the connection from cable to adapter and adapter to card are both snugly pushed in.
See if you get a signal without the DVI monitor plugged in. If you do get a signal without it plugged in, plug the DVI monitor into the DVI port that it previously did not occupy.

Thanks a bunch SkyR It fixed the problem, I can now Enjoy my new build! (:

Hey does anyone know when some of these sales are ending? For example, my PSU is 13 dollars off right now and I am going to order everything tomorrow but if things are going off-sale tonight I'm going to order everything I can tonight while it's still on sale.
Shouldn't be a detriment to me besides things arriving separately since newegg has no base shipping cost.
Also my memory just went out of stock tonight so I need to pick a new pair. I just want some simple 2x2GB DDR3 sticks, nothing fancy. I'll probably be okay with just picking another pair around 40?

I also have this issue and would love some recommendations on new memory, right now I'm looking at a 2x2GB for $47.99 but that seems like a lot more than the other and for not much gain.

Just get a 2x2gb kit for $40 or less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146748
If you want to spend $50 on memory, you might as well spend an extra $10 for a 2x4GB kit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231422
