It really depends on the resolution. It should handle High pretty well at most resolutions at 1920x1080 or below (I saw a benchmark where it didn't step below 35 FPS on Ultra at 1920x1200, although I'm not sure what the test parameters were).

i5-2400 is enough for SC2 while streaming at more than decent quality. Just don't expect anything like borderline VOD-quality 30fps 720p. If you wanted to push graphics settings higher, you'd just upgrade the HD 5670 to something better.
You can get a HD 5830 for $110, which is a little better than a HD 5770. That would still be under budget and let you crank the graphics settings to ultra on 1920x1080. I'd rather run graphics settings a little lower to get consistent 60 fps (i.e. average fps higher well higher than that) though, since there's really not much to see past medium settings.
btw you probably want a CD/DVD drive as well ($20)
|
you think medium settings would stream fine on that build? Also, what if i planned on overclocking? would that change anything?
|
Streaming with a core i5 2400 and a 5670 at medium is fine.
If you wanted to overclock, you'll need a core i5 2500k (+$30), a P67 / Z68 motherboard (+$50), and an aftermarket heatsink (+$30).
|
^I think I would be willing to do that. Do you believe it's worth it? Would it allow streaming on High?
|
A better graphics card would be much more beneficial than an overclocked processor for graphic settings...
|
The triple dot makes me feel bad what what I had just said... Anyway, what would be a good card to get and still remain under the $700 budget? If possible, I'd like a setup below $700 that can stream on high rather smoothly.

You realize Myrmidon already posted that you could get a Radeon 6830 instead of a 5670 and still stay under-budget? Lol.

It's a good deal but it ends today.

I've been reading that the HD 4850 is a powerhungry card... With an overclocked i5-2500k in the 4.5ghz range and an overclocked XFX HD 4850 would the Earthwatts 380D be sufficient?

The 4850 at stock only uses around 100w at max load and a core i5 2500k at stock uses around 60w so adding 100w for other components and the overclock, a 380D would be sufficient for such a configuration.

It's the same GPU but with a different heatsink and maybe a slightly different PCB.
|
Is it safe to say that my current card has a cheaper heatsink and might not be able to oc as safely? Trying to get the most of it with the stock cooler.
Edit - Nvm. Seem to have found my answer here http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/965255-xfx-hd4850-1gb-using-mobility-chip.html
Looks like the 4850 is usiing its mobility chip variant.... Does this mean I should use.. the drivers for the mobile 4850 ? or the desktop? t.t

Hey so it just happened again on me. I was playing for like... 8 or 9 hours fine and then it just rebooted randomly. I had automatically restart unticked and I didn't get a blue screen so its not that. This is quite troubling to me. I'm not sure its a heat issue, as I said, gpu temp seems to peak at 60c and also I've done long marathons of play before and not had it happen.
Refering to my problem on page 286.

I was going with this build, but im buying within the next 2 days and it says the psu is out of stock. Any replacements? Or should I really just wait?

Make sure to have the most up to date chipset, LAN, graphics card, and audio drivers and have a fully updated Windows.
Disable C3/C6 and any power-saving features in the BIOS. Disable sleep/hibernate and set your power profile to high performance in Windows.
Set memory to 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 @ 1.6v and probably a good idea to run memtest86+ over night for a couple passes.
Not sure of the vcore options on the Gigabyte but you may want to set it manually or try using offset (if that's available as an option).
If you have a multimeter, you could test your power supply as well. If not and you're still experiencing random reboots after doing all of the above, I'd start RMAing parts.

Earthwatts Green 380D for $40, or Corsair CX430 V2 for $45 (even less if you do mail-in rebate) would be good. These aren't quite as good as the XFX Core Edition 450W, but you don't need that much wattage, these are still decent, and they're cheaper. The Corsair CX430 V2 has better performance, while the Earthwatts Green has slightly higher efficiency and has a higher reputation for quality control.
