but all my fans are working, I will double check again. btw i am typing to you guys on my new computer, I owe it all to skyR and Myrmidon!

If everything works than just forget about the plug and leave it hanging inside the case. But it definitely looks like a fan plug to me.

Out of principle, I would attempt to move the cables hanging loose farther to the right and use zip ties to tie them to maybe one of the holes in an unused drive bay. You don't want the cables running into the CPU fan. Judging by the pictures, you might be able to do that in like 2 minutes. But if it works, it works I guess.

will do right now! thanks

hey skyR,
my friend wants a core i7. Can you give a modified build with a intel core i7?
Thanks!!
|
Why does your friend want a core i7 for gaming? The core i7 is an extra $100 over the core i5 2500k and provides nothing for gaming. The two processors will get exactly the same FPS in most if not every game.
If he really wants one than just switch out the core i5 2400 for a core i7 2600 and switch out the GTX 560 for a Radeon 6850. That should put your total at $789.

This. tomshardware isn't the best source for many things, but their monthly "best gaming CPU" writeups are not bad. They also note that i7s are bad values for gaming, which you can see from individual benchmarks if you look around. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu-intel-core-i7-amd-phenom-ii,2926-4.html
For the record, most 32" 1080p LCD TVs tend to lag by about 25-100ms on average. i.e. it may take 1/10th of a second between getting a signal and showing it on the screen. It depends heavily on the model.

Vizio's works quite well. At least, it doesn't have sufficient lag to notice.

Indeed Vizio is often better. Some Sony models, some Panasonic models, etc. are also good and under that range. My LG 32LD450 is around 30ms, according to some tests, but I don't use it for the computer. I'm not sure if I notice it or if it's placebo. That's the borderline area.

Hey guys, was looking to build my first desktop in the very near future and wanted to get some feedback (and suggestions) on what components to use. It will be mainly for gaming (although I might do some streaming...etc at a future date).
Budget is quite flexible, so just throw suggestions if you see them (This does not include a graphics card as I bought one a year and a half ago... Radeon HD 5770 that can play the games I want to play without it being too much of a problem, if I need to upgrade when new games come out I don't think that'll be too big of a problem in terms of switching it out... correct me if I'm wrong)
The problem is, ordering online might not be an option, so I'm looking at things I can find at a nearby memoryexpress and use their 25% price match offer. I will be overclocking this, but don't have too much knowledge of that (although will definitely be reading up on it a lot). Looking to do this as early as this or next weekend.
+ Show Spoiler + *Numbers based off of memory-express price matching based on shopbot
CPU: i5-2500k: ~$205.00* RAM: Mushkin PC3-10666 8GB: ~$77.50 HDD: OCZ Vertex 60GB (SSD): $100.00 + ? (looking for a 1TB) Case: Antec Three Hundred: ~$60.00 OS: (Taken care of, Windows 7 Professional 64bit)
Need extensive help on deciding: MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3: ~$120.00 (NO idea for this one) PSU : Not sure... Price Range ~$75.00? External Fan: Not sure what kind of fan I'd use, but figure I could use one or two as I'm going to OC.
Thanks in advanced.
Edit: In terms of the 8GB ram... the 4 to 8 isn't as big of a deal for me, as I might need to use some programs that can actually utilize it (CAD programs)

^ Thank you Myrmidon,
I'm an idiot... hit 1 by accident xD
What type of Watt increase would I expect if in a year's time I took the HD5770 to a higher end graphics card? And what type of HDD would you recommend (~1TB) that is available from mem-express. I saw a couple that I'd have to order, but would prefer if possible not to go through that trouble.
Thanks again.

^ Awesome, thanks for the help (@ both of you)
I think I'm leaning towards the cooler master, the Antec + the WD1.5TB,
Thanks a lot guys (and props for all the support you give this thread ^_^).

Edit: Do you know if mem-express does price match on things that are on sale?

I couldn't stop zip tying.

MemoryExpress's terms do not specify sales so yes as long as item is in stock but the power supply is a limited quantity sale so that might be a problem... It does come with free shipping so I don't see why they would reject a pricematch since they'll just be losing business...
Cannot be used with any other promotion and does not apply to advertising errors, misprints, rebates, coupons, special educational prices, club or group buying prices, restricted offers, mail order offers, premiums, free or bonus offers, limited or minimum quantity offers, close-outs, liquidations, clearances, auction or clearance sites such as eBay, and special financing offers.

Ahok, I'm not very good in the market situations, would it be under my best interest to say (if they say they won't price match) that I'll just order online then?
Thanks again
|
It's simple. If the rep refuses the pricematch, you ask to talk to the manager. If manager refuses, you walk out of the store and purchase elsewhere.
