I was thinking around 23.5 inches with some speakers on it (I only have headphones but would like anyone watching over my shoulder to have some kind of sound).

Sounds like you didn't plug in the 4/8 pin CPU connector that is located near the CPU socket.

Well, you're not going to get an amazing monitor for $200. That's the realm of cheap but decent TN panels, like the Asus VH236H. The speakers on that one are not that good, but they should be enough for occasional use, like when people are watching over your shoulder. And for your use, you won't need amazing color accuracy or great viewing angles anyway, so something more expensive is not necessary. That model has pretty low display latency (something slightly under 1/60 seconds on average) according to tests by users, so that's good for gaming.

I've recently decided to buy a Laptop (which can run SCII/WoW etc etc) due to my Desktop at work dieing on me. I have a budget of £500 ($815 USD) and wanted to throw something together that'd run these games plus be a good travelling laptop for work. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

No there isn't a thread for laptops but you can just use this website for all your laptop needs: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ It has reviews on different laptops, performance charts for the different mobile processors and mobile graphic cards, shows the FPS in SC2 and various other games for each graphics card, etc.

Most PSUs today use their 12V rail to power the most demanding pieces of hardware. The CPU, GPU(s), hard drives, and fans all use the 12V rail for power. When selecting a PSU, you want to make sure that your 12V rail has enough amps to support your hardware. Wattage does not mean everything when selecting a PSU. If a 1000W PSU has merely a 70A 12V rail, it can only supply 12 * 70W of power to your peripherals. You want the product of 12 and the number of amps on the 12V rail to be fairly close (around 0-50W) to the wattage of the PSU. Need a little help figuring this out. I’m planning on buying and using this combo of stuff: + Show Spoiler + CPU I5-2500K PSU Antec Basiq BP500U GPU NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card Mobo Not sure which yet, waiting for the LGA 1155’s to come back on the market I know my PSU has a 12V rail but I wasn’t sure how to check to see if my PSU will be sufficient to power the new processor and GPU. I looked on several sites with specs and I saw that my PSU has this output: +3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A but I couldn’t find what the CPU requires…

Normally you can't assume that total +12V capacity is the sum of the listed +12V rails, but it looks like the BP500U can do (18+18) = 36A on +12V, which is way more than you need for a i5-2500k and GTX 460, even if you overclock both. i5-2500k power consumption should be around 65W at full load if not overclocked if you're not using the integrated graphics, which you're not if you have a dedicated graphics card. The the record, whatever it is you quoted is a very incomplete assessment of what to look for in a PSU. As you might expect, it's much more complicated than that.

The quote is from the beginning of this thread under PSU, so from the OPs. They did say more, that bit was the part I hadn't heard of before.

CPU I5-2500K Mobo ? RAM ? GPU NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card (Existing) PSU Antec Basiq BP500U (Existing) Case Not sure of the model(Existing) Sound Card Razer AC-1 (Existing) SSD (SATA) Intel X25-M 80Gb (Existing) HDD (SATA) WD20EARS 2TB (Existing) I don't need a TON of extra RAM or PCI-e slots, mostly all I do is play SC2 and itunes and browsing. But I like a computer that can last for a few years with some upgrades. So in other words I'd like to have one extra PCI-e slot but I don't need any more than that. I think I'd want Sata 6 just in case and I'd probably want room for enough RAM slots to accommodate me over the next 3 years (I'm thinking about starting with 8, maybe eventually doubling down--does that sound reasonable?). One last concern I have about Mobos is I once had a friend that was very hardware savvy show me how my current Asus board (Striker 2 Forumula) created a bottle neck where even though the RAM and CPU were listed as being at FSB 1333 something within the board capped me at 1066 which made it silly to buy better RAM or really upgrade my CPU without also upgrading my board.

For your purposes, 4GB of RAM is plenty. Brand is generally not an issue; pretty everyone is sourcing the modules from the same suppliers anyway. Likewise, RAM speed has practically no impact on any application's performance, so that's not worth worrying about either. Get a 2 x 2GB kit, which would leave room for adding another 2 x 2GB kit later if somehow you ever need more than 4GB (you won't, playing games and web browsing). I'd think that pretty much any P67 motherboard would do what you want, unless you're wanting to push very high-end CPU overclocks or need SLI or Crossfire support. I'm guessing that you want to overclock the CPU, since otherwise there'd be no reason to get the K-version CPU? Along those lines, do you have an aftermarket CPU cooler handy or are planning on getting one?

As far as overclocking, I guess I could be persuaded either way. My current thinking is I want to get the K so I have that capability (I think it's like $20 or $30 more so no biggie). I was thinking this might be something I do in the future as my system starts to become outdated. This is sort of my MO, with my current setup it wasn't until I started playing SC2 and noticed my FPS were slow in team games that I wanted to push my system to give me a bit more (only leveled it up two notches). Given the proposed system and my level of computer use do you think it would really be a benefit to overclock? In my current system I never added any extra heat control hardware because it doesn't get too hot. If I did want to overclock, what would you think would be a good CPU cooler?

An increase in MHz will mean an increase in FPS. You probably won't notice this increase in FPS though since it'll be running really smoothly at reference speeds. But given how easy overclocking is (type a number between 42 - 50, press enter or press the auto-overclocking button) on Sandybridge, it would be a waste of $20 to purchase a K and not overclock it. The Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is currently the best budget heatsink in the market: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 Whether the case is worth keeping is totally up to you. Most cases will provide adequate airflow regardless of how much mesh there is. Yes, mesh will provide more airflow but are your current temperatures really that much hotter than your ambient temperature? Keep in mind that your current case is aluminum, most cases full of mesh is made of steel. Not sure if that matters at all but just thought you'd know.

ECS Pg7H2-A2 (-)Concerned that it only has one PS2 port...in an ideal SC2 world shouldn't both keyboard and mouse be connected through PS2? Right now both my keyboard and mice are USB, but I did want to at least switch to a mechanical keyboard and would like to try a PS2 mouse but not sure if it matters *that* much (+)I really like that this has the capability of putting two 6GBS SATAs in a raid--talk about overkill for me but cool! (-)1333MHz highest before needing to OC (1600 obtainable but must OC) ASUS P8P67 PRO (+)Has two PS2s (+/-) I don't see if I can raid the two 6GBS SATAs--I know this is overkill but man it'd be cool. One website seems to confirm this but Asus' doesn't detail it. (+)1600MHz Memory speed without have to OC (+) Has a bluetooth dongle, not really sure what benefit this is on a desktop but the review made this stand out. MSI P67A-GD65 (-) only one PS2 (-) I don't see if I can raid the two 6GBS SATA (-) Not sure what the max memory speed is without OC (+)Review said it preformed well in everything (+)Might be priced better GA-P67A-UD4 (+)SATA 6GBS - Raid Enabled (-) Only 1 PS2 (+) DDR3 1600MHz w/o OC DDR3 1866MHz w/ OC So I guess depending on pricing I'd favor Gigabyte, then the Asus, then ECS and lastly MSI. For the Gigabyte the only thing I see that I don't like is only one PS2 support. Everything else looks good. Asus I believe is the highest performer and would be my favorite if I could figure out if it has the SATA 6 raid support. The other two might be viable depending on price. Thoughts?
