the only way you could justify a 760 is by getting a higher resolution then 1080p or having a 120 hz monitor (hich you could afford in your build if you do not wish to OC, which is advised for sc2, and pretty easy)

to oc though will cost more for the cpu/mobo and getting a heatsink as the stock one won't cut it for that

I've been looking at the ChipReview numbers and it seems once things were far above stock that he was pulling better numbers with HT off - noting particularly the reduced std deviation in FPS: http://chipreviews.com/main-feature/main-news/battlefield-3-revisited/5/ Then reading this, it raised more questions :p Source thread - http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/en/forum/threadview/2832654490312763052/3/ There's some mention of core-parking or a patch later on. I've never had an HT-enabled CPU, so let me know if I should be concerned at all here haha. This would really be a pure gaming CPU, as I don't stream/encode or really do anything in terms of content creation. I know this is in spite of what I've said earlier, where I was dead set on the i7. It's very specific to individual game engines etc. I heard battlefield 3 (or 4) lost performance with HT, especially on 3930k (maybe even you showed me a link or two?) Worst case scenario you can disable ht in 20 seconds or so This would really be a pure gaming CPU, as I don't stream/encode or really do anything in terms of content creation Probably not worth paying extra for HT unless there's nothing else worthy to buy, i can't name any games off the top of my head that get gains from hyperthreading where it also makes sense to spend money on 4770k > 4570k instead of putting it into the GPU until you have a 780. I'd say Crysis 3, but even with only i think it was the least performance hitting AA that wasn't fxaa (can't remember exactly what i set) and with shaders bumped down i still saw my 770 limiting performance in open areas more than the CPU, the list of games that are CPU bound even on oc'd haswell but scale well with HT and are simultaneously GPU unbound to the extent of not benefitting from upgrading single-gpu setup or getting cheap multi-gpu is very small, i can't actually name anything On August 01 2013 15:14 Rachnar wrote: Cyro can tell you a lot more then i how OC'ing can change sc2 performance, he spent a lot of time on that recently, or you can search the last pages for his work to oc though will cost more for the cpu/mobo and getting a heatsink as the stock one won't cut it for that Yea if you include RAM numbers i saw something in the leagues of 65% difference on minimum FPS from 3.6ghz cpu + 1600mhz RAM to 4.7 + 2400, it's pretty silly. Less for a lighter OC, and don't quote me on numbers 'cause i don't have recent benchmarks but it's a very wide gap for minimums Switched my RAM into other slots, hopefully i can work out instability, was also going to make benchmark thread soon with Gumbi if anyone else wants to talk about that etc (got you on skype Rachnar) Should have stock vs oc data there for me in a few different situations, and i was thinking out some funny/interesting stuff like 4 core 4.7 vs 2 core 5.0, i don't think sc2 actually benefits from a third core on a strong CPU, the only data i saw showing a benefit was on a stock athlon II x3 IIRC

I have a bunch of connectors sitting around my house, I'll see if I have something to make 8 pin PCI-E. Edit: I have 2 molex to 6pin, and (I'm assuming) 8pin to 6+2pin and 6pin. Maybe I should just get one of the crappier bronze mkII units (they're more expensive, go figure)? Returning items would be a big hassle, and expensive, although as long as there are enough outputs on the psu I can always go out and buy a connector. Any other thoughts on the component selection? I don't think you have to worry about the adapter. I browsed the website for that Galaxy brand, and there was a picture of the box contents of the graphics card. It seems to come with two adapters turning 2x molex into one pci-e power connector.

I decided to order from MSY seeing as apart from cases/ssds they seem to have a somewhat serviceable selection (ended up with a neo eco PSU for example). Still looking for a light microATX case with front panel USB 3 to replace the silver stone from pccasegear though, because the shipping is more than the case :/. Unfortunately most of the cases on MSY/Austin/PLE seem shit/heavy/big or overpriced :/.

I've build a pc almost 3 years ago, and I bought a New GPU around 1 year ago. I build it for gaming purposes only. My GPU is an Asus 560 gtx DirectCU ii OC, but my CPU that's a lot older is bottlenecking me hard. My CPU is an intel i5 650 (dual cOre), and I'M now looking for a New CPU. The newer CPU's don't fit on my motherboard, so I need a New one of that too. I'M looking for a good CPU (not much more than 300€ though) so the i7 2600k looks good. I'M wondering Which motherboard and CPU fits best with my current GPU. My ram: kingston value ram (2x 4gb) 850 watts Power Monitor: Benq rl2450ht Windows 7 64bit I also got the offer for the New i7 4770k that I can get for 225€, but I heard it's not the best for gaming. Anyway, I hope someone can help me out, because my brain is bottlenecking me on hardware knowledge :p Robert

The 4770k (and the 2600k along with every other core i7 as well) are "not good for gaming" because most games utilize two cores with some taking advantage of four (mainly the newer titles). So you just end up throwing your money out the window. A core i5 4670k would offer near identical performance to that of a 4770k for most games. K suffix processors are also for overclocking but from the sound of it, you don't seem like someone whose going to overclock... so if you're not overclocking then you should get a non-K suffix processor (eg. core i7 4770, core i5 4670) with a H87 or B85 board.

Memtesting tonight if i can find a usb flash drive, but i think i should be fine on that front, done pretty extensive testing @2200cas11 so surely i should be able to run 1066 on the same voltage

It's not crash to desktop, just display driver soft reset and i have to manually reset it to normal clocks instead of failsafe 135mhz or whatever it sets to. I can OC my GPU and be 100% fine with cpu at stock, it's not the GPU It's instability revealing itself in display drivers and x264 being extremely unstable even though prime/adia/ibt etc are fine If i do what Belial did and throw system agent and io to max voltages, it runs a lot better but i don't think it's solid without uncore and ram at unthinkably low values, even if that

I have heard that its a bit tougher to get encoding stable (with HT on). My friend was pretty lazy and left his 3770k at only 4.4 cuz he didnt feel like tweaking it more lmao. *I usually include looping 3DMark to ensure that there are concurrent 3D loads when you are testing a CPU overclock. Otherwise you'll have a false sense of security on a CPU OC that was never tested in a typical or worst-case scenario.

![]() Which gods do i make the sacrifices to so that i can run >>4ghz. I swear i can do 4ghz on like 1 volt, actually i'm gonna go do that now. It was funny/annoying a month and a half ago but now this is just ridiculous

A true 24/7 setting basically.

Well whatever clock allows you to successfully encode AND do it consistently :p When some setting that isn't stock actually works, i'll let you know ![]() Still considering delid but there's really no point, i mean if increasing vcore from 1.3 to 1.45 doesn't change anything, there's nothing to really gain from lowered temps aside from longevity
