I haven't done any super long tests yet, but where I couldn't seem to clear more than 5 minutes of Very High on IBT at 1.2V and 1.9V input voltage, I'm now clear through 1.9V and testing 1.8V using 2.2V input voltage. Just something for anybody working on haswell as well. What kinda CPU cooler are you using

Unfortunately, I am relatively clueless about specs within hardware and how to tell if something is good or not, therefore I would greatly appreciate any help! - My budget: Around £650 / $1000 / €760 - My resolution: 1366*768 - Usage: Gaming and some simple game design coding. - My upgrade cycle: I plan on upgrading the computer about once every two years... - When: I plan on buying the computer asap, as my laptop is slowly dieing. - Overclocking: I would probably rather not... - OS: I have a version of Windows 7 that I am able to use. - GPU/Crossfire: I don't really know what this is or whether it would be beneficial for me. Perhaps not. - Buying parts: I am living in the UK, and would prefer to buy the parts online. I have some extra money saved for postage if necessary. Thanks very much!

Noctua NH-U12S. My thermal limit seems to be about where everyone says it should be, around 1.25V. I think I hve a slightly above average chip though, I can boot 4.6V up to Windows.

As for SSDs, I don't know what they're specifically referring to. There shouldn't usually be problems if you get an SSD that's been decently validated. (edit: especially so for SATA ports handled by Intel's Z87 PCH itself; should be hard to screw up) You can always go with another model if you want.

Oh hahaha I hope I don't have 4.6V on the CPU anywhere. I meant 4.6ghz at 1 2V, obviously ![]() No, I haven't delidded yet. I don't really need more performance I think, so I might save delidding for when I do. Or I might just wait for cyro to do it and talk about how ![]()

About 800 (+100 if need be) What is your resolution? My resolution is 1920 x 1080. I might add a second monitor later on. What are you using it for? I will use it for gaming only pretty much. Just playing the newest games on higher settings for the next few years would be nice. What is your upgrade cycle? 2-3 Years When do you plan on building it? As soon as possible. Do you plan on overclocking? Yes, if it is possible withing my budget. ^.^ Do you need an Operating System? Nope. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope. Where are you buying your parts from? I will be buying from a variety of sites, but the prices won't differ too much from sites like hardwareversand.de or amazon. The only thing that is set in stone so far is the case which is gonna be the Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl for 93,68€. I also think a SSD would suite my need better as I will use the pc for gaming only. I pretty much need help on all the other parts. Thanks in advance. ![]() You have a pretty significant budget decision to make: overclocking versus spending more on the GPU. Spending more on the GPU rather than overclocking will be better for most games in terms of graphics quality. But there are a few purposes, such as streaming SC2, which would prefer an overclocked CPU & weaker GPU. And your budget allows for a good mid-range GPU even if you decide to overclock. Also for my convenience I pulled parts from alternate.de. Feel free to shop around. Though alternate has an e-sports team. ![]() Overclocking option: i5-4670k (220 euro) http://www.alternate.de/Intel(R)/Intel(R) Core(TM)_i5-4670K,_CPU/html/product/1063378/? I pulled parts from scan.co.uk for my own convenience. Feel free to shop around the various UK sites (overclockers, aria, amazon, etc.) for better deals on individual components. Core components: 279 pounds i5-4670 cheap MSI B85 mobo 2x4gb RAM + Show Spoiler + http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i5-4670-s-1150-haswell-quad-core-34ghz-38ghz-turbo-1200mhz-gpu-34x-ratio-retail-plus-free http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-b85m-p33-intel-b85-s-1150-ddr3-sata-iii-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-xms3-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-15v Video card: 86 or 153 pounds. Basically, if you're going to be keeping with your current monitor for awhile, there's no reason to spend on anything more beefy than a 7770 (86 pounds). If you plan on upgrading your monitor to a 1920x1080 version soon, then you may want to get a GTX 660 for 153 pounds. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-sapphire-radeon-hd-7770-ghz-edition-4500mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-1000mhz-640-cores-dport-dl-dvi-hdmi-p http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-gigabyte-gtx-660-windforce-2x2-28nm-pcie-30-(x16)-6008mhz-gddr5-gpu-1033mhz-boost-1098mhz-cores- Supporting components: 130 pounds Fractal Design Core 1000 (note this case will ONLY fit mATX mobos - like the one above - do not buy if you get a full-sized ATX mobo) Be Quiet! For instance this good quality 24" 1920x1080 monitor @153 pounds, the BenQ gw2450hm: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GW2450HM-inch-Full-Monitor/dp/B0081VNAUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370798076&sr=8-1&keywords=benq gw2450 2) Get an SSD! A good performer like this 120gb Plextor M5S goes for 75 pounds. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/128gb-plextor-px-128m5s-25-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-s-read-520mb-s-write-200mb-s-71000-iops-max Unfortunately while you have some room to work, you don't have the money for everything you want (new monitor + the 660 gpu + the SSD would be 790 pounds). But you could, say, get the 7770 + the new monitor for 650 pounds. The 7770 will play games on 1920x1080 fine, just not at max graphics settings. Or you could just save some quid & get the base recommendations. Whatever.

Reverting it should be either setting it to 0 or using bcdedit /deletevalue xsavedisable. THANKYOU I'm very confused. While trying to get 4.4 totally stable (or more stable), I've been steadily upping the vcore. I'm actually seemingly more stable at 1.13V and 4.4Ghz than I am at 1.2V? Is there any situation ever where that makes sense? I can pass much more of my Very High IBT at that voltage than I do at 1.2... very confused? Non vcore factors, set your ram voltage, timings etc and then put it at 1066mhz if it's running default or especially high frequency, maybe manually set uncore clock and voltage (i threw mine at 3.9ghz 1.15v i think) etc I had weird behaivour too with passing some IBT runs at 1.32v and then failing at 1.37. I think it's just from not using other settings like VRIN (i see you mentioned on other page) properly.

so probably a 750 W PSU to not run it at its limit for less heat and noise?

Yeah input voltage/VRIN/whatever it's called on each motherboard seems to make a big difference. I'm going to try and tune mine again tonight and actually get a longer test running. It seems like 4.4Ghz is stable around ~1.165V, but I'm not totally sure yet. I could game on it much lower, but for stress testing I guess I should get it 100% stable. When I get back home tonight I'll run a replay for you as well, if I can find a decent 2v2.

I'm sitting at 2.15 VRIN I think? Let me know whatever results you get as well, might give me a better idea too. What cooler are you doing again? Thermalright silver arrow or something like that?
