And you have NO other games?
He he...only Starcraft Broodwar...it's been fine, though I admit I haven't played it much.
Can't you download some kind of 3DMark free version and run that to similarly stress the graphics card in a computationally-heavy game-like setting?
I will try this! Strangely enough, in many other "testimonies", people report that after sending in their graphics card, they were told it had no problems. I'll try some tests.
3D MARK Test Note that I switched to the beta drivers and saw no positive change...but the problem was apparent before as well.

Hello my fellow tlers. in about a month my fiancee has birthday and i would like to build her a computer. the problem is that im not into the assembling a computer cause i dont know the compatability of each unit with the other. the one i know is that i would like intel probably i5 and nvidia for gpu. thank you in advance for ur patience.
What is your budget?
about 600-650 euro
What is your resolution?
1920x1080
What are you using it for?
Gaming and watching movies series etc
What is your upgrade cycle?
i hope i wont be needing to buy parts for about 5 or 6 years
When do you plan on building it?
i was thinking of making the order by the end of this or the next week cause the transportation is about 1 week. got 1 month deadline
Do you plan on overclocking?
nope
Do you need an Operating System?
nope
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
nope
Where are you buying your parts from?

Hi, I'm not building a computer from scratch, so a couple notes before I fill it out:
I don't think I need a new case- I'm using the Rosewill "CHALLENGER", I also have the Coolermaster Hyper 212+, I have 8 gigs of RAM, and I already have a Hard drive+OS. Edit: I forgot to mention, I also have this Rosewill PSU. (will probably have to upgrade)
What is your budget?
$1,000
What is your resolution?
1920x1080
What are you using it for?
SC2, EVE Online(not completely sure I'll be playing that yet), some FPS games, RPG's like Skyrim and The Witcher(Ubersampling!), and whatever other games I take an interest in.
What is your upgrade cycle?
I won't be upgrading again for at least 1-2 years, so I'd like to get the best I can for my money
When do you plan on building it?
Within the next 1-2 weeks.
Do you plan on overclocking?
Just a little bit to get a tiny bit more preformance. I don't want to mess with it much though as I tend to leave my computer on most of the time. I also don't really want to deal with my parts dying early, or messing with voltages.
Do you need an Operating System?
No.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I don't want to unless the preformance boost for cost is very good compared to a single card because I really don't like dealing with bugs that come from CF/SLI.
Where are you buying your parts from?
Newegg and/or Frys.
I hope I've been clear, thanks in advance!

I don't really agree with putting an i5 in this build for the intended purpose and budget, but okay. It will be used for several years, after all. That's where I would cut if you think the below is slightly too expensive. Either that, or reduce the size of the SSD. I wouldn't get anything Nvidia below the GTX 660 (GTX 650 Ti and below is overpriced, and I wouldn't recommend the last generation). You may need an extra SATA cable if you don't have any spares.

Actually, the Rosewill Xtreme is not bad—usable if you want, but I'd get a new one and keep it as a spare, on your budget.
You sure you want to spend all $1000 on computer components? I'd strongly recommend upgrading peripherals, monitors, sound, desk / chair, etc. before trying to come up with ways to spend $1000 on the components themselves.
Your RAM is DDR3, right? Or you spent a whole bunch on DDR2 a while back?
edit: you have an optical drive?

If it matters, I've had my PSU for around a year. I'm not sure what my habits have been regarding power usage.
Edit: At first I thought you were saying what I want is too much, then I realized you're saying my budget is too high. From what I know of prices, it seems fine to me?
I should clarify something: When I said 1-2 year upgrade cycle, I meant I would upgrade in about 2 or so years, and I would only upgrade earlier if I got a ton of money via miracle, which is what happened earlier to let me upgrade.
Sorry for not being clear!
Edit2: I forgot to mention, I love pretty graphics, and I hate it when any stuttering occurs.

Then you will be buying parts you don't plan to make full use of. Money doesnt buy infinite performance.
You could get an i7 which is $100 more but doesnt confer hardly any performance difference over an i5 but it eats into the budget.
You could get an expensive motherboard that wont do you any good over a $90 motherboard if all you want to do is overclock.
You might as well get a flagship GPU, though it wont help you in any of the games you listed above except the Witcher 2 I guess.
Especially if you are just going to up and dump it all in 24 months anyway. This is typically where we suggest fully upgrading quality of life items. Good computer chair like an Aeron. Second monitor. Good desk. Mechanical keyboard. But if you are dead set on spending it on more computer parts that will not grant you any FPS difference. By all means go for it.
Also a 120hz monitor would be nice if you still have a 60hz one. Capture card if you want to stream.
Theres plenty of things to buy thats not a computer.

Should I just wait until the next set of GPU's, CPU's, etc after some games with Unreal engine 4 are out, then? Would it even be worth it to wait?
Edit: I worded that second part poorly, writing some stuff, standby;
Edit2: Nevermind, I thought a bit and decided you're right. Suggested best build please?

Quick Question about Intel processors. I have to choose between a i73520M and i73517U. Is the low-power worth it if I care about performance more than battery life?
|

1) The i7 3520M is worthless. Its not a true quad core, which is the only reason for picking a mobile i7 processor. 2) You've already answered your question...? If you care about performance more then battery life, why should you care about low voltage processors?

Look around at GPU benchmarks (also note how much AA they're applying, to make fps scores lower, which motivates the purchase of more expensive graphics cards), to see if you think something else is more appropriate.
Core i5-3570k and AsRock Z77 Extreme3 - $325 for both http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1081367
Thermaltake Toughpower XT 675W - $60 (after promo code... way overkill but a very good power supply on heavy sale) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153126
Samsung 830 128GB - $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147163
EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked - $230 (factory OC, EVGA support) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826
or
Asus GTX 660 - $235 (much much quieter) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121664
Turns out it didn't really cost extra to have SLI support if you want. Z77 Extreme3 and of course the Toughpower XT can handle SLI GTX 660 with ridiculous overclocks and room to spare.

Maybe its because I dont wear my glasses when i game but Im 20/20 while I game anyway, but anti aliasing after 2X starts to not matter unless I really look for it.
Additionally, I absolutely hate all of these new fangled AA methods that just seem to blur everything.

sup guys, i am currently rocking with a rig i built a year ago, a low budget build that cost me around $700. I'm considering two options from here really, build another pc and buy a capture card so i can stream a lot easier OR sell current PC and build 2 identical PCs from scratch. if you were going with 2 PCs would you want 2 different PCs or would you want them to be the same? or sell current pc & build one monster rig.
which would you guys prefer if it were you?
|
I don't really see a point in having two computers next to each other with the same specs, assuming you're the only (main) user. What are you going to do, sync them up automatically all the time and then use a different one randomly each day?
I'd just get a new computer (if buying anything at all) and stick a capture card in the old one, only using it to stream.

Looks like you read a guide written one year ago. Outdated mobo, GPU, CPU. You choose an overclockable processor but a mobo without that function and no aftermarket heatsink. You get Win7 Ultimate when there's generally no reason to pay for more than Home Premium. HyperX is not great for Intel systems (it generally runs at 1.65v). Peripherals are a bit expensive, but whatever. You don't mention your monitor.

=p not actually my build. Some guy streaming said that i5-2500k was the bare minimum requirement processor to be able to stream. ...
