I am going to budget comp around 500$ I play sc2, path of exile, do some programming with eclipse and mathematica. Here are the items I picked out so far and everyone feel free to give your input ![]() cpu ssd ram motherboard power supply case total is 474$ before tax. I went a lil crazy on cpu haha If you can find a better match that is cheaper I will definitely take a look ( sc2 custom games can be brutal on cpu so that's why i opted to go a lil high). I don't know much about PSUs and motherboards so I might need some help there. I think everything is compatible but I am sleep deprived so I may have messed up. Thanks for reading and I hope maybe sometime soon I can see what a modern cpu runs like ![]()

On an unrelated note—or maybe not that unrelated—desktop Ivy Bridge Core i3 and a Pentium model are available now.

As for the ram, they are like processors too in that the less voltage required to run it, the better it is. It also generally means you have more headroom available as well.

I can't find any comparisons between any i3 ivy bridge and the 3570. It is 70 dollars cheaper, which is nice, but I dunno if I want to take a risk. Its not a risk. Its a i3-2120 die shrunk into 22nm. It will have the same 10% performance increase and will use less energy. Also it sucks to be AMD even more now. The FX-4100 was competitive at $120 (depending on what you do) but now with the ivy bridge i3 AMD is just back to being good for only laptops.

If you want suggestions for less expensive parts than maybe you should list the price of the components? -.- But onto the build.. it's terrible. Such a low-end build does not need a 700w power supply. The OCZ ModXStream Pro isn't even a good purchase, assuming you are purchasing it for $79... The majority of GTX 560 only supports two monitors so a shitty card to pick for multi monitor support. I'm pretty sure none of Gigabyte's GTX 560 has displayport as well... Overpaying for G.Skill Ares.. most likely, 99% likely. For such a low budget, get a less expensive case. Ditch the SSD and get a CPU worth a damn.

Do yourself a favor and fill out (in detail) the questionaire in the OP. You'll get a near-perfect build for your budget, 'cause the guys here are just that awesome. P.S. It'll get better performance than your current ideas.

Get a Samsung 830 which should be same price as Corsair Force 3. GTX 560 for $140 is good. Get a Corsair CX400 / CX430 or Antec Neo Eco 450C for $40 or less. Get a less expensive case, eg. Bitfenix Merc Alpha for around $35. Switch to a core i5 and a B75 / H77 board.
