Also, more generally, do you guys have any recommendations for desktop wallpaper managers in multi-monitor setups? I've been trying to find a good one that can handle portrait/landscape orientations and being able to rotate through different wallpapers without too much luck Thanks :D

Since 5xxx series, there was 3 (or more) monitor support. You can use pretty much whatever as long as you have the slot for it. There are specialty low-end graphics cards (more expensive) with PCI slots, PCIe 1x slots, if you must. HD 5450 is probably okay. If the system is Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge and has support for the integrated graphics, that may also be able to be used.

You know, there are significant differences in heat transfer mechanism, surface area, materials, mounting apparatus, accessories, warranty, etc. Are you confused that a Core i7-3960x costs a lot more than a Celeron G440?

Seems like a very common opinion is that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 is kind of the best thing for the money? So if I am overclocking, will 400 watts no longer cut it?

Is that a W0379RU (25A and 18A +12V rails), W0093 (14A and 15A +12V rails), or TP-500P (single rail, 80 plus bronze)? All are sold as Thermaltake TR2 500W. Well, it's not like operating a system well under advertised limits for 6 months is an extraordinary feat. So if I am overclocking, will 400 watts no longer cut it? I'm sure that materials and manufacturing costs are far below retailer pricing for the expensive heatsinks (particularly, the materials costs should be relatively low). It's probably more a matter of relatively low volume, pricing for premium products being high because people will still pay those prices. For CPUs, it's a matter of different products not containing different technology. Intel, AMD, and anyone else designing CPUs (like for specialized servers, smartphones, etc.), spend megabucks on R&D—every couple / few / several years, they put out a new design. Then they create an entire product stack based on this one design. At shorter intervals in the meantime, they tweak it somewhat and then release a new product stack based on that tweak. It's not like different CPUs based on the same design will be much different, other than being released with different numbers of cores, some differences in clock speed. Pricing for premium components again reflects the fact that people will pay for it. $30 for Hyper 212 Plus is kind of standard, so sure. Get that. 400W is enough for those parts, normal overclocking, unless you run your computer at 100% CPU load, 100% GPU load, 24/7.

Budget is around 2 grand, and I already have 2 1 TB HDD's and 1 64 GB SSD that ill bring over. Heading to Microcenter and Frys and hope to be able to finish the build by tonight. I haven't been paying much attention as of late but the new cool things are GTX 600 series and ivybridge ya? What about a mobo? Liquid cooling is easy now right? Can anyone just list out a good build - don't have much time ! ![]()

$2k is a gross overkill budget for a tower these days, unless you have some very demanding niche requirements, trying to run some kind of beast multimonitor / 120 Hz gaming setup, a rendering farm workstation, a certain kind of server, or something like that.
