Monitor: I need one and don't really know anything about monitors. Use: Gaming and streaming. Mostly non-graphically demanding games (SC2, TF2 and such) but it would be nice to play games like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed and DayZ on High. I'm willing to sacrifice a little in this department though. Upgrade Cycle: I'd like to keep this computer running as long as possible. Timing: This week Overclocking: I want to take streaming seriously so I guess yes? Advice in this department would also be appreciated. OS: Need one. 2nd GPU: Not sure. Purchase location: Newegg or online somewhere. No Microcenter nearby ![]() Hello, this is my first build. I was originally planning on buying a notebook for school to replace my old notebook that just died, but decided that I could get away a desktop and my sister's old netbook (lol). Anyway, I've done a bit of research but I'm not sure what would meet my needs exactly. Streaming and SC2 are my biggest priorities. I don't play too many graphically intense games but I like being able to have decent graphics when I do play more graphically intensive games. From this I know I need a very good processor and not as good of a graphics card but I don't want my graphics card to get out dated too quickly. I don't know much about the other features of the computer. An SSD would be nice. First real post, sorry for the mass confusion and redundancy. Any advice would be appreciated. If anything doesn't make sense or I left anything out, just let me know and I'll edit it or post with the new info. Thanks in advance ![]()

Thanks for any help. 560ti is an older generation video card avaliable at that pricepoint, as the 600 series doesn't cover it yet (maybe 660 OEM?). The 7850 is almost identically priced, and is significantly better, but if marketing means more than more performance and reduced power consumption to you, stick with the 560ti. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127594 <- 560ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102998 <- 7850 Relevant benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/547?vs=549

4gb ram, GTX 560, i5 2500k, P67, 560W power. Does it sound good? I think everything should work fine when we put it together. The comp is mainly for Sc2 but if there is something what could improve the gaming experience without much higher cost feel free to share ![]() Thanks in advance.

Also that PSU, what is it? If its generic and cheap you are asking for trouble. You dont even need that much wattage anyway. 4gb is still fine but you may want to go up to 8. We are starting to get to the edge of 4gb lifetime, and RAM is cheap.

I am building a computer from scratch for the first time and I really can't make a clear choice. The only parts I already have is my mouse, keyboard and headphones. I don't think I will need a webcam but I will need a microphone. (I think nowadays they all come with one right?) I don't mind running around stores to get pieces and I will be able to assemble it myself if needed. I don't want a laptop. I will be stocking a lot of music on it but I have an external device I can stock them on. What is your budget? 1 000$ What is your resolution? This is where I start to need help. I'll tell you what I can tell. I will be playing on high graphics games such as starcraft and I don't want to lag during my gaming experience. I will also be watching videos and movies on it. I want a screen of at least 18 inches wide, more if it is not overpriced. What are you using it for? Playing games, streaming and recording occasionally (unless it breaks the budget), working (Microsoft office and such) and listening to music and movies. What is your upgrade cycle? Whenever a part breaks or become obselete, I don't know... between one and two years I guess When do you plan on building it? In the next week or so. Do you plan on overclocking? I play a lot and sometimes I reach streak or 8 consecutive hours. Operating system? Basic windows 7 that has word excel and powerpoint. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I don't know, but what I know is that I want to be able to be able to play starcraft2 high graphics and I don't want to lag. I need to be able to run the game I am playing, iTunes, a browser with alot of open pages, some of them will be videos. I will be multitasking a lot. I want to be doing all that without lagging heavily. A little bit of slow is acceptable but as I said i want to be able to watch videos, play, browse fast enough without having to close applications all the time . Where are you buying your parts from? I live in Montreal so there is surely those stores near. I'd rather have to buy from internet as less as I can due to some bad service I've had in the past. Don't mind cutting a little bit where it would really cost too much or I could change the budget if I really need more. Thanks!

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit Resolution: 1920x1080 Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.50 GHz RAM: 8 GB Current video card: ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series Again, I just want to upgrade the graphics card. I realize this is a Dell we're talking about and my options could be limited but I just want some low, mid, and high end options I could go with. My budget is pretty flexible. Thanks!

Mid end would be 6850, GTX 560, 7850, GTX 660 Ti etc. Just build a new computer if you going to buy an high-end card.

What is your budget? I'd say between $1300~$1500 NZD, which is equivalent to around $1000~$1200 USD. What is your resolution? I'm not quite sure about this; I have not owned a desktop and only played at netcafes where the resolution for SC2 was around 1600 x (?) or 1920 x (?). I'm unclear whether this is vastly relevant to the different parts of the build (Please tell me!) - I would like to play on medium-high definition with no lags or frame drops. (I have a 20 inch HP LCD monitor that I may use, if it this info is relevant). I am willing to purchase a monitor that matches the video card requirements What are you using it for? Gaming (SC2, DOTA2, GW2, possibly other medium requirement games), not intending to do any streaming. What is your upgrade cycle? Probably 2+ Years, I plan to stick with what I get initially unless there are problems with it. When do you plan on building it? In the next two weeks Do you plan on overclocking? No. Do you need an Operating System? Yes. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No plans for this. Where are you buying your parts from? www.pricespy.co.nz -It is a New Zealand based hardware website. Other Questions I've been reading through many articles, posts on TL and gained some knowledge. There are things that I want but still unsure about some stuff. I'm mostly concerned about the fps(?) and the smoothness of the games rather than the actual graphics (I dont need to play SC2 on extreme resolution, as long as it doesn't 'lag'). Which part determines this? which part needs more investment for this preference? For the casing, I would prefer something that is easy to set up (I heard some cases are easier to handle the cables and so on), as it is my first time building a computer. Also, something that looks decent :o For the PSU, is having a higher wattage always better, or is too much not good for your computer? Help me!
