On August 25 2012 08:44 Silky wrote:+ Show Spoiler +So I am going to be ordering parts tomorrow from newegg and I want to make sure that all of these parts are able to do what I wish for them to accomplish. First of all I only am going to play sc2 on this computer and at medium quality while on skype/listening to music. I am hoping to get an average of around 60 fps with this build while doing those things that were just specified. So without further adieu, here are all my parts! please leave feedback it would be greatly appreciated!
Hard Drive--Western Digital AV-GP WD3200AUDX 320GB IntelliPower SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive GPU--SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (11192-22-20G)
PSU--COOLER MASTER GX Series RS650-ACAAD3-US 650W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC
RAM--Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory
Motherboard--ASRock B75M LGA 1155 Intel B75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU--Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000
Optical Drive--SAMSUNG Internal DVD Writer Black SATA Model SH-222BB/RSBS
PSU is overkill, overpriced, and shit. Rosewill Capstone-M is significantly better at a lower price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182261 Though for such a low-end system, you don't need such a good unit so you may want to consider getting an Antec Earthwatts 380D for $32: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033
You want a 7200 RPM drive (eg. Caviar Blue) or SSD as your primary, not like the green drive you have selected.
I'm not sure why you are buying a Kingston HyperX Blu 2x2GB kit when a Crucial kit is better for $5 less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148542

So will it be able to do what I asked? Such as the medium quality and ~60 fps? Thanks for the recommendations though :D

Hey guys, I'm not that great with computers and I wouldn't know where to start on which parts are the most optimal to buy so I though I would ask here.
Budget: Roughly $1000, can be a bit little more Resolution: 1920x1080 What are you using it for? I will be mostly using it for gaming, maybe a bit of streaming. But the main purpose will be gaming. What is your current upgrade cycle?: I have had my current PC since late 09 so roughly 3 years. When do you plan on building it? I plan on building this some time before the end of the year. Do you plan on overclocking it? I'm not too sure about this one, I haven't overclocked before and don't know the first thing about it. So I would probably say no, could someone please tell me if its actually worth doing? Do you need an operating system?: No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Where are you buying your parts from?: I will most likely be buying my parts from PC Case Gear

Got a bunch of little extras/free things like the upgraded thermal compound, an extra case fan, free Razer Cyclosa Gaming Keyboard & Abyssus Gaming Mouse, (keyboard looks nice), internal card reader, -50 off evga nivida card instant, -5% off spring sale, free name brand ram upgrade to hyperx.
I want to thank everyone that helped me out on here 2 weeks ago, can't remember the account name but someone specifically helped me out with the power supply, informing me how important it is to have a good brand over the "standard" ones. I looked into the 80gold ratings and I see the difference in power management as well as durability.
With shipping/everything included it was $1500. I'm pretty pleased with the price as in an initial post I did stress that I didn't want to take the time to build it myself...I heard some great things about cyberpower and a few really terrible reviews so I was hoping mine would be exactly right and so far it looks that way.
I'm 25 now, not going to be able to game every night, this is definitely an investment for me. Need it to last like 5-6 years so I'm really happy that I went with the z77 3rd gen over the x99 2nd gen. I can't believe how small the z77 boards are. The graphics card is huge!
Thanks so much for all the help and the straight up no "bs" approach in this thread. I appreciate the peeps that were getting on me/changing my mind for the better. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Nizzy.757, I might not be on for a bit or so, need to install windows/work a lot these next 2 weeks.

@saunam,
for streaming, you will want to overclock what would be the msot demanding game you would be gaming on also? just so we don't go totally overkill on gpu

most demanding game would probably be BF3

Antec VP450 is okay I guess, but it's very cost-cut, kinda cheap, definitely not as good as Antec's budget offerings, much less their higher-end stuff. That Enermax actually shows a picture of the Lepa N Series (both are brands associated with Ecomaster though), but the low-end Enermax / Lepa N is maybe even worse than the VP450.
But really, you only need something decent in the 360W+ range.
None of those above prices are that good. In particular, don't get a Corsair CX V2 for $72.
There are much better options not at MicroCenter. If you can order online and want something cheap, I'd recommend the older Corsair CX400 for $30 here (with free shipping if you get a total order above $50): http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=33357&promoid=1088
CX400 is different and a little better than the other CX lineup, almost the same as Antec Neo Eco (budget Antec), which is a slightly cost-cut version of Antec High Current Gamer

Is this one of Antec's good budget PSUs? It's only $45 after the promotion and rebate.Seems like it should do the job + some legroom if i ever go SLI

Antec's good budget units are Neo Eco and Earthwatts.
You need a K suffix processor to overclock fyi... with a non-K suffix processor like a 3570 you mentioned, you'll only get ~400MHz out of it.

What is your budget? 800€
What is your resolution? 1920x1080.
What are you using it for? Gaming, and maybe some low-mid quality streaming
What is your upgrade cycle? Maybe 3-4 years?
When do you plan on building it? In the upcoming one or two weeks.
Do you plan on overclocking? no
Do you need an Operating System? no
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Yes maybe in a year or so.
Where are you buying your parts from? http://www.pricerunner.com/
I would like an SSD harddrive if that is managable, because I've got an external harddrive which I save all the heavy data on. I will be running windows 7 if that makes any difference.
Thanks beforehand!

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out, it makes this first build a lot less intimidating. I agree on the SSD subject- I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with a regular drive, and if I change my mind I can upgrade later. I was a bit wary of overclocking, but you make a good point. I'll definitely consider it.

Sorry, it actually is a 3570K, forgot to mention that part. I ended up getting a Antec Neo Eco 620W for about $55. Probably coulda found a better deal if I waited a little but I need it soon. My comps ready and built just need the PSU. Thanks for all the input.

Between Fall & Winter.
Ask a day or so before you're ready to buy, as especially with that low a budget, changing specials will make a difference.

I looked through scan.co.uk, because I'm used to that website's format. Feel free to shop around for the same/similar parts if you want to save a few quid.
Core Components: 270 pounds i5-3550 MSI z77a-g45 (for cheap SLI potential - currently out of stock at scan, but probably available somewhere else) 2x4gb 1600mhz ram http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i5-35501155-ivy-bridge-quad-core-33ghz-5-gt-s-dmi-650mhz-gpu-6mb-smart-cache-33x-ratio-77 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-z77a-g45-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-xms3-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-15v
Video Card: 248-300 pounds One of: Gigabyte or MSI 660ti (250)- probably the best single card option for 1920x1080, I dunno if 660ti has any unexpected issues re:memory bandwidth. Probably works fine. But I'm a bit ignorant there. MSI or Sapphire 7950 (248)- probably the best option if you ever plan to upgrade to a gaming resolution higher than 1920x1080, or if you're comfortable overclocking your video card. EVGA 670 (300)- a potential option if you want a really kick-ass SLI setup in the future. I think it'd kind of be a waste for one lil' 1920x1080 monitor though.

Total (tower only, including tax, not including windows or shipping): 725 pounds
P.S. Personally, I'd monitor before going to SLI or Crossfire, so I prefer the 7950. P.P.S. I linked out-of-stock components assuming you were comfortable checking other retailers for the same parts.

Im mostly looking at playing Guild wars 2 on 1920x1080 but this is a little over my budget, I want to keep it around 900, and I am planning to OC and crossfire/sli in the future...maybe
If you guys have any suggestion on what i can cut it will be appreciated

You hardly ever upgrade, and you want to build in being able to Crossfire/SLI? By the time you want to upgrade (even if it's just a few years later), you're not going to want to pair your then severely-outdated POS graphics card with another one.
Cut $40 each from the motherboard and PSU, and you're set. RAM, optical drive, hard drive, and CPU look a little bit expensive too. Those are newegg prices?
