Clear CMOS. It should fix your problem. I had the same problem when installing W7 on my computer because my brother kept choosing the wrong boot order. The problem is boot order. That seems to align with what I have read but how do I go about doing that with no display on the screen. If this helps the led display on the Moho shows code "AE" On your motherboard there will be a button by a battery, or a button at the bottom of the motherboard with clr cmos written on it.
Make sure all power is off and hold the button a few seconds. turn power back on and start computer. Back to square 1 you are. EDIT: here's a pic of a motherboard with the clr cmos button circled in green.

Hey guys. i bought and built a pc around october with a lot of help from you guys and back then i only had a 700$ budget. Now basically having an unlimited budget it'd be dope if any one could show me where i can improve alot?
specs @ bottom
first question: I bought a pretty cheap 30$ gaming case & i'd like to upgrade this to something better. do i need a specific case for what i have or will pretty much all mid size towers or bigger fit fine? if anyone has any suggestions to a sick but not TOO expensive (100$ give or take) case that'd be sick. don't want to go too hard in this area but i want to spice up the pc a bit.
second question: I'm highly unsatisfied with my inability to stream good quality starcraft 2 games. I'm not sure what the problem is exactly because when i had help with putting the pc together i was told i would be able to stream. If anyone could point me in a direction that would improve my streaming quality greatly i would appreciate that ALOT as this is the main focus as to why i'm posting this. I want to be able to stream at 720p.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a great monitor? I have a decent monitor ( http://reviews.costco.com/2070/11654973/hannspree-hannspree-23-lcd-monitor-with-led-backlight-1920x1080-resolution-5ms-response-time-reviews/reviews.htm?sort=rating&dir=asc ) But just hooked up a dual monitor for the first time and i love it but unfortunately my second monitor is cheeks.
If there is anywhere that i can improve and you have any suggestions just let me know. as i said i dont really have a budget. ive managed to save up about $6,000 since october. sadly i dont know much about what to look for . id still be playing on my dell inspiron 530s if it wasnt for some of you guys lol.
windows 7 64-bit
z68p-ds3 gigabyte motherboard
i5-2500k
Team Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3
Monitor: hannspree sl231
GFX: XFX HD-677X-ZNLC Radeon HD 6770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
I think my PSU is too weak to do anything but I could be wrong. It's only 450Watts so if i need to upgrade that to let me know please! I dont want to upgrade just for the hell of it like a 500$ gfx overkill. the rig is used for nothing but gaming. mostly starcraft 2, some skyrim, maybe games in the future not sure.
|
Buy a big fancy monitor (see Team Liquid Monitor Thread) and a snazyy video card, like the 670. A 450w power supply will run that fine. Also, throw in an SSD, probably a Crucial m4 (usually the least expensive quality SSD).
|
Corsair 300R. Its sleek, spacious, good thermal performance and has USB3.0 on the front.

Alright, I ran into some money unexpectedly and as such I'll be able to build a computer pretty soon. I'll re-post my prior post with some updates.
What is your budget?
~$1000 (if it will show a massive improvement, I might be able to up that by 1 or 2 hundred dollars)
What is your resolution?
1920x1200
What are you using it for?
Running and streaming SC2 smoothly at 720p. Streaming is the main thing; if I can up it to 1080p smoothly then that'd be great, but I really don't want any fps lag while I'm doing it. I probably won't really be playing many other games, so a super-snazzy graphics card probably won't be high-priority. Speaking of which, my friend gave me his HD 5830 and this HDD; would they be good enough for what I want to do? It'd be nice if I can tuck that couple-hundred dollars (or however much these components would cost) into other parts of the computer.
What is your upgrade cycle?
1-4 years
When do you plan on building it?
I'm ordering the parts this weekend.
Do you plan on overclocking?
Possibly
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Yes, but not immediately.
Where are you buying your parts from?
Seattle, WA, USA, so Newegg or Fry's

I'm looking at putting a PC together come the end of august - it'll be my first build, but both of my room mates have built previously, and are majoring in the IT field... so I'll have some help. I'm just starting my research, but I feel TL is the most tech-savy place that I spend considerable time, so this is where I'll begin!
What is your budget? $900, hard cap on that. If I have extra when the day rolls around, it'll go towards peripherals... or food, or a night out with friends. It's not realistic for me to save more than $900. Cheaper is better!
What is your resolution Should be getting a monitor "cheap" from a local high school, so most likely 1280x1024 (which is still quite an upgrade from my laptop)
What are you doing on it? School work (bio/exercise science major, so nothing too graphics intensive), internet browsing, and smooth running of SC2 at medium/high settings. Watching SC2 streams (IPL/GSL/MLG/Proleague) and streaming internet TV/movies (Netflix/Hulu/less... legal options). Also playing a bit of broodwar now and again - I haven't played any other games, except for an hour of the D3 beta and Maplestory (<3 TL groups in all free games, forever and always) since ~2004, so staying "current" on games isn't a concern unless maplstory 2 (3D) comes out, TL makes a group for it, and it happens to be graphics intensive. No photo or video editing, no modeling, etc.
What is your upgrade cycle? Long. I doubt I would upgrade at all, but rather buy entirely new again.... I suppose when SC3 (or WC4?) comes out. I would hope whatever I buy will suffice until then, with the occasional worn out part (in my laptop right now, the fans and screen have been replaced) being replaced/updated.
When do you plan on Building it? End of August, ordering parts August 24th.
Do you plan on overclocking? No, and I would hope that I don't have to.
Do you need an Operating System? I think I can snag win 7 from one of my room mates, or the aforementioned high school - so no.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I would hope that I don't have to, in order to run only sc2 and streaming services. No.
Where are you buying your parts from? Syracuse, NY, USA - so anywhere that ships to the US. (Newegg?) There are no "local" computer parts stores that I'm aware of.

ask again when you are ready to order, and you won't spend near 900 for what you want without buying also a decent screen (which you should) and OS

As far as the OS goes, I meant that I will have a way to get Windows 7 outside of the budget I listed. I'll be getting it - it's just not a concern for the build. I think my room mates each have spare copies, if not, I'll buy it at a different time and use an older version of windows in the meantime.
As far as the monitor... I don't do any heavy gaming at all beyond sc2, which I play 2-3 hours tops a week. Maybe a bit more if I had a PC that could run it well, but you get the idea. I'll still check out the monitor thread, but for anything besides gaming, does it really matter that much?

For me it does, have you ever even used a 1080p screen? Oo
i mean i can't use a lower resolution anymore

my mobo has a pci (2 of them) pciex(2 of these) and pcie x4 and pcie x16
could be mis typing that but if you understand explain this to me please. for crossfire you just pop a second gfx into the othe (pcie x4) slot? whats the difference bwteen x4 and x16. isnt that x16 best?

Well I tried the clear CMOS. The one on my mobo is a 3 pin header. That did not work. So I had read that removing the battery and putting it back in also does the trick. That also did not work. Everything still seems to be running but it won't display anything to the monitor and the debug code on the mobo is AE. Any other ideas?

For SC2 you can reuse the HD 5830. Take the hard drive as well, though I'd suggest getting an SSD for OS and programs and just using the hard drive for data storage and possibly infrequently-used programs. (That won't help anything but load times and general system responsiveness though, so it's an extra that can be avoided.)
You can get a i7-3770k instead, but overclocked i7-3770k is just about the same as the much cheaper overclocked i7-2600k anyway.

I recommend forgetting about Crossfire/SLI, but it's not a huge deal. You could upgrade the case or power supply (Rosewill Capstone is more premium, though that Earthwatts Green is by no means bad) if you want, or do whatever with the remaining budget.
Actually, if you really really wanted, you could get a hex core i7-3930k instead, if you want stream quality to be slightly better. You'd just have to pay like $350 extra for that.
